Bored. Himari was dead bored. Even though she was one to get overwhelmed at the unknown, sitting her at the gate was as boring as it got. She would have been better, sitting in her room, meditating. She sighed, stealing a glance at Takashi, wondering what he was sensing and thinking about. It was sort of sad that Himari hardly knew anyone in her squad, only having worked side by side with Arashi. He was the only one she knew on a base better than acquaintances. Something she needed to work on.
She crossed her arms over her chest as she waited for Takashi to reply, her eyes closed and her breathing slow. As she did this, she swept the area herself, looking for any Reiryoku. Nothing yet. Just random unseated offices of the 5th, the Kido corps members who were still standing near. And Takashi.
Himari_2.png

Boring. But, she had to remember even simple tasks like this one was important. Watching the senkaimon was just as important as running off somewhere into battle. It was just as important.
But-
No nothing seems to be out of the ordinary.”
His voice was over calm, almost too quiet for Himari to even have him. And she thought she was quiet. As she looked at her squadmate, she again thought the look of him was flashy. And he, like herself, had looks that made them stand out like sore thumbs. He seemed nice enough. But, before she could speak, he beat her to it.
” Please sit down and tell me about yourself Himari. Of all the districts in Rukongai, which one are you from?”
Well, that wasn't what she expected. Her first encounter with Arashi and Eizoku wasn't that pleasant. Even though she saw Arashi as a man who has slowly earned her respect, and even turned to like him a little more than she did at their first encounter she still didn’t know him. And Eizoku, thinking about him almost made her blood boil. Damn asshole. But, Takashi was the first to ask her about herself. And wanted to know about her. He was the first one since Tenzen that asked. This made her laugh.
” I'm sorry Takashi, don’t mean to laugh it’s just…. nobody asks me anything here in this damn squad so you caught me off guard. Maybe it’s because we are both bored off our butts huh?”
She giggled again, the smile on her face almost a rare thing to see since the Rukon mission. She was sad, she hadn’t smiled, and under her eyes were dark with the little sleep she had from training, reading, wanting to get better. But she would save him that take.
“I stayed in Inuzuri. I had no parents to fend more no, have no idea where I even came from really. Just that my mismatched eyes always gave me attention, since not a lot of people carry scars from when they lived. So I fought and stole until I saw an evil soul reaper mess with some kids I took under my wing. I thought I could take them so….. I tried to fight then. Boy was that stupid. But it gave me the courage to want to be a part of the Gotei 13. I wanted to be better than those suckers. And so I joined the academy and...here I am. Not much has changed really. Not much to talk about.”
She finished the sentence off with a hard smile, the truth coming out of her mouth making her even sadder. She didn’t have any good stories to tell about her time in 5th. She hasn’t done anything worthwhile. Hasn’t made any progress. It was embarrassing and super foolish-
Wait
Himari suddenly stood up, almost looking like a blur as she did so. Her hand would grab at her Zan with tightness. She felt unknown spiritual pressure coming near them. At a fast pace
looks like we got company. Nice chat though, tell me about you next time.”
She said this with her eyes glued to the gate. Closer they came before their voices could be heard
"sorry for the intrusion but we have little time; a call came in from Karakura town from our 3rd seat! Several menos grande have erupted from gargantas in Karatown and we need access to it! Please get permission to open the gate for the 13th division as soon as possible!"
It's only been four days since a big episode happened, and now this? Seems like others outside of herself seemed to get themselves into stuff all the time. And they wondered why she would rather read in her room. But, she remembered their third seat, Oyama Hoshi was her name wasn't it? She had met her almost forever ago.
”we are awaiting word from our Lieutenant here."
At this, the young girl raised their eyebrow. She knew of the thirteenth squad's Lieutenant as well, having met him along with meeting Hoshi. He was a nice guy, for the most part, and it was nice to hear he had done well with himself and was promoted. She almost smiled, if it wasn’t for the fact that they ran all the way here rashly without getting word from their Lieutenant beforehand.
” I'm sorry to hear about your third seat, Oyama Hoshi. But I cannot let you pass, not without a word from Lieutenant Oda himself. I understand your squadmate is in danger, but you should know not to act rashly on fear without orders from your higher-ranked officer. We cannot let you pass.”

Enji was watching the seated shinigami with a blank stare. He doubted that he would try anything, so his guard was rather relaced, yet his hand had yet to move from the hilt of his blade. Curiosity was something that didn’t bode well for those that had stepped foot into First Division territory.
“Ah, noted.”
The guards hold their breath, feeling the lingering questions that Jatiri had, sitting in the back of his mind. Enji and Taka gave one another a glance, deliberating in silence as to what was so near and dear to the third seat that he had to come to the First Division to get an answer. Rather than sit in silence in this little stand-off, Enji broke the ice.
“Yabuki-San, are the any questions that you might have?”
“Might I add, seeing as though you both guard these gates, observing everyone who comes and goes, you guys must've seen Captain Kojima walking out from here after the captain's meeting, right?”
There is a slight hesitance, and at that moment, Enji searches Jatiri’s face. Enji had seen each captain make his way into the First Division Barracks four days ago for their designated Captain’s Meeting, though he was unsure as to when everyone had left. Yū Nakamoto was the first to be recorded leaving in a rather poor state. Kyomu Mukuro was rumored to have left after in search of his lieutenant in the Rukongai, and Tenzen Oda had followed suit not long after. Higen Kagayaki had stayed behind due to… the unfortunate circumstances.
“..We were supposed to grab lunch.”
But those of the First Division knew the events that had unfolded in front of the Captain’s Hall, a punishment handed out by their Heads Guardsman, Akarui Gekkō. From the little words passed around, Akarui had simply performed as she’d been assigned to do by the Captain Commander’s final order in her presence. As a result…
Enji tilted his head, genuinely concerned for the news that he would have to deliver to this unaware shinigami. But he was confused.
“This information has been delivered to the Ninth upon his superior’s report. It’s common knowledge at this point... Whoever had withheld this information had put the members of the Ninth in a rough spot, and I’m unsure of the whereabouts of his superiors.”
Enji exhales through his nose.
Last I heard, Lieutenant Abe was in Fourth recovering from her sickness, but Lieutenant Kojima’s whereabouts are unknown, along with their Third Seat, Jirōshizō Raikyū…”
Or should he say former third seat… His eyes hardened. How this information did not get to the tabloid Division that gathered information like this in the first place? Especially when the lieutenants report their findings to the Ninth? He was sure that his superior had reported something as drastic as the death of a Captain... It was a large event, something that most other Divisions had known of, so why was this one before him asking such an obvious question? And for a newly promoted Third Seat to not be aware?
Did he truly not know?
“We have an emergency! We need to see our Lieutenant, Oda Katsuo-san at once! Several Garganta has opened in Karakura town and 13th is requesting back up for several menos grade hollows!”
Enji’s annoyance had only grown, seeing that the members of Thirteenth had come waltzing right up. Had no one learned after what had happened? Did the events of the Captain’s Hall not teach individuals what the outcome was when trying to interrupt a meeting? Pulling his zanpakutō from his waistband, he slams the butt of his sheath against the ground, the feeling of his spiritual pressure flushing against the shinigami that stood in front of him. A vein popped out from his forehead, his brows furrowing.
It seemed as though First Division was being looked upon as a joke. One first comes asking for an audience without prior requests, and others have come, darling to waltz in in the midst of a Lieutenant’s Meeting, regardless of the events they’ve reported. If anything, their lieutenant would be the first to get the request for help...
“It seems as though I have to remind you of your places. You have come to the First Division on some sort of high horse, thinking that we owe you answers and should allow you to move as you please. Should I remind you of the events that happened four days ago when former Captain Mahō Kojima of the Ninth had been executed for not following regulations and performing on his own accord?”
If Jatiri truly didn’t know of what happened to his Captain, then he would have now.
“Shinigami of Thirteenth, your request is denied. Return to your barracks. If the information that you have provided is true, then your Lieutenant will also be getting notified on their own devices and perform accordingly.”
Enji turns to look at Jatiri with a blank look. He was not looking for any retort.
“Mahō Kojima is no longer of this world. Why you were not informed should be taken up with your superiors. My apologies for your loss, but I will be unable to provide any more answers to what questions you may have.”

Himari suddenly started laughing and it surprised Takashi who looked at her confused. That she started laughing was something he was not prepared for but in any case she showed that she was not just angry as she seemed when Eizoku was present.
” I'm sorry Takashi, don’t mean to laugh it’s just…. nobody asks me anything here in this damn squad so you caught me off guard. Maybe it’s because we are both bored off our butts huh?”
For the first time Takashi sees her smile and he tries to give a friendly smile back but it only takes a few seconds. He does not possess the ability to feel any strong emotions like fear, despair, envy, hatred, disgust, gluttony, lust, sloth, and love, with the exception of a single individual. But that does not mean that he can not try to show emotions even if he fakes them.
Sitting on the ground, he still looks at Himari and listens to every word she says. The short story about her background and how she lived before she began her career as a shinigami was dark and tragic. But that is unfortunately the life of most souls in the Rukongai and based on her story Takashi placed her as friendly and non-hostile. Suddenly, Takashi feels a group of shinigami approaching them and the Senkaimon gate and Himari stands up quickly.
''Looks like we got company. Nice chat though, tell me about you next time.”
Takashi takes a deep sigh and nods at her before standing up with his back to the approaching group. He places his Zanpakutō on his hip again before turning around to face the group that has arrived. Their facial expressions show anxiety, anger and fear and he can hear them.
"Sorry for the intrusion but we have little time; a call came in from Karakura town from our 3rd seat! Several menos grande have erupted from gargantas in Karatown and we need access to it! Please get permission to open the gate for the 13th division as soon as possible!"
Their voices had the same feeling in them as their faces and it was something Takashi saw as a weakness on their part not to stay calm. In any case, they have their orders and he knows that it is their job to take care of the world of the living, but he is waiting to hear Himari answer them.
”We are awaiting word from our Lieutenant here."
Now his gaze is shifted from the group to Himari only and not a word is said from him and all he is doing now is waiting for her to answer them.
In silence he agrees with her because they have to follow protocol and not let them pass without any official request or orders from their superiors. Before Takashi has time to back her up and tell the group that they will not let them pass he feels vibrations in his right pocket where he wears his Denreishinki. The focus is moved to his pocket and he quickly picks up his cell phone to see an emergency message that says.
“This is a announcement to the 5th Division senkaimon gatekeepers. There has been an attack in Karakura Town, where 13th squad 3rd seat Oyama Hoshi is in need of assistance. There will be people from 13 coming your way to go through the gate. Once they show up, they have to get access to the gate.”
Takashi raises his eyebrows and only one word is said from him and all he does is easily throw his Denreishinki to Himari before he starts walking towards the gate.
“Catch”
Again he walks to the gate and places his hand on it, channeling his reiryoku from inside his body out towards the gate.

Near 5th Division barracks/Senkaimon gate
"I'm sorry to hear about your third seat, Oyama Hoshi. But I cannot let you pass, not without a word from Lieutenant Oda himself. I understand your squadmate is in danger, but you should know not to act rashly on fear without orders from your higher-ranked officer. We cannot let you pass."
The group of 13th shinigami heard what Himari said, and nodded.
"we are not acting out rashly on fear; the call for backup was delivered, this was a direct order from our third seat, we are simply trying to do our job and follow orders; We already arranged to wait for our superior. We are seeking permission to enter the senkaimon so we can do our job in providing backup and protection to the souls and comrades already in Karakura."
The one that spoke showed the two Senkaimon guards the message that was delivered from Karakura. They seemed a bit on edge because 5th was preventing them from doing their jobs currently…. And they really felt as though they had no time for this. Then; Takashi threw his phone toward Himari, and told her to catch it. They must have gotten the news as well. The dark haired male, Takashi, motioned to open the gate.
The lead of the group of division 13 members nodded to Takashi.
"we'll have more arriving soon, hopefully with our Lieutenant. We'll be waiting for them now!"
Near 1st Division barracks, at the gate.
“Shinigami of Thirteenth, your request is denied. Return to your barracks. If the information that you have provided is true, then your Lieutenant will also be getting notified on their own devices and perform accordingly.”
The orange haired lad spoke up.
"Really bro? This isn't some drill; it's serious. You're gonna scream protocol and prevent us from following our orders and doing our jobs right now?"
The dark haired girl pulled him back and shook her head.
"Understood, 1st division. However if you plan on holding us from doing our job at least let us wait here for Lieutenant Oda. We'll need to get moving as soon as possible; the lives in Karakura and our own members lives are in need of backup, they sent alerts to all of us."
She said, showing the 1st division member the alert. He should have gotten one too; what was going on?
"it's no exaggeration on the emergency. We were ordered to find Lieutenant Oda, so we follow those orders, not yours. Sorry."
The Orange haired lad moved back and watched his squad mate take care of the "hospitality" that was showed them. It was fine that they guarded the gate; high horse or not, right now Enji was in the way of their orders. The two 13th walked to the side, stood, and waited. Every moment squandered would mean the death and destruction of something in Karakura; which didn't need it right now at all. If first division wanted to waste their time, that was on them not 13th.
The girl looked back at the orange haired lad.
"1st are usually all about protocol. They don't go out there like we do all the time. Calm down…"
The orange haired lad sighed and calmed down, giving her a nod.

As Himari finished her sentence, she stayed standing firm. She hoped she had done well. They couldn’t just let anyone pass through the Senkaimon, right? As the Gatekeepers of the gate, it was their job to make sure everyone who passes won't be doing anything they shouldn't. Even if they were from thirteen, they had a game without any actual formal approval to go through. And they even came without their Lieutenant. To her, they were acting rashly, but she couldn't say she wouldn't do the same thing if someone she knew and was cared about was in danger.
” we are not acting out rashly on fear; the call for backup was delivered, this was a direct order from our third seat, we are simply trying to do our job and follow orders; We already arranged to wait for our superior. We are seeking permission to enter the senkaimon so we can do our job in providing backup and protection to the souls and comrades already in Karakura."
Before she could speak again, she saw from the corner of her eye a slight movement from Takashi which made her Look at him. As soon as she sees him take out his Denreishinki, she felt her stomach drop just a little. Oh. That was a thing. Himari had been so in the dumps that she hardly used the device. And she wanted to punch herself for this now. Of course, looking at the device should have been the first thing the young girl had done before she had said anything. She was super embarrassed but she allowed Takashi to read.
”Catch”
She wasn’t expecting him to throw his in Denreishinki towards her. She did have her own. But, she rolled her eyes. She watched as the phone moved, it seemingly moving In slow motion. She grabbed it with ease and read the message that she already knew was going to face her.
”“This is an announcement to the 5th Division senkaimon gatekeepers. There has been an attack in Karakura Town, where the 13th squad 3rd seat Oyama Hoshi is in need of assistance. There will be people from 13 coming your way to go through the gate. Once they show up, they have to get access to the gate.”
Yep. Just as she suspected. How could she be so clueless and stupid? Checking for a message should have been the first thing she did. stupid, stupid, stupid.[/b]
She wouldn't turn towards the group of Shinigami of Thirteen, a little too embarrassed to do so. She was slowing then down from getting to their comrade.
Himari_4.png

She would nod, before she would walk over quickly to the gate, placing her hands flat against the surface.
” Sorry for the confusion! We have gotten the message to let you pass,”
As she said this, one of the people from the group spoke again.
”"we'll have more arriving soon, hopefully with our Lieutenant. We'll be waiting for them now!"
Himari would nod at this, but wouldn’t speak again. She would close her eyes and push some of her reiryoku into the gate. And just like when Eizoku went through, the area was filled with bright light as the gates slowly opened.
