Bored. Himari was dead bored. Even though she was one to get overwhelmed at the unknown, sitting her at the gate was as boring as it got. She would have been better, sitting in her room, meditating. She sighed, stealing a glance at Takashi, wondering what he was sensing and thinking about. It was sort of sad that Himari hardly knew anyone in her squad, only having worked side by side with Arashi. He was the only one she knew on a base better than acquaintances. Something she needed to work on.
She crossed her arms over her chest as she waited for Takashi to reply, her eyes closed and her breathing slow. As she did this, she swept the area herself, looking for any Reiryoku. Nothing yet. Just random unseated offices of the 5th, the Kido corps members who were still standing near. And Takashi.
Boring. But, she had to remember even simple tasks like this one was important. Watching the senkaimon was just as important as running off somewhere into battle. It was just as important.
But-
No nothing seems to be out of the ordinary.”
His voice was over calm, almost too quiet for Himari to even have him. And she thought she was quiet. As she looked at her squadmate, she again thought the look of him was flashy. And he, like herself, had looks that made them stand out like sore thumbs. He seemed nice enough. But, before she could speak, he beat her to it.
” Please sit down and tell me about yourself Himari. Of all the districts in Rukongai, which one are you from?”
Well, that wasn't what she expected. Her first encounter with Arashi and Eizoku wasn't that pleasant. Even though she saw Arashi as a man who has slowly earned her respect, and even turned to like him a little more than she did at their first encounter she still didn’t know him. And Eizoku, thinking about him almost made her blood boil. Damn asshole. But, Takashi was the first to ask her about herself. And wanted to know about her. He was the first one since Tenzen that asked. This made her laugh.
” I'm sorry Takashi, don’t mean to laugh it’s just…. nobody asks me anything here in this damn squad so you caught me off guard. Maybe it’s because we are both bored off our butts huh?”
She giggled again, the smile on her face almost a rare thing to see since the Rukon mission. She was sad, she hadn’t smiled, and under her eyes were dark with the little sleep she had from training, reading, wanting to get better. But she would save him that take.
“I stayed in Inuzuri. I had no parents to fend more no, have no idea where I even came from really. Just that my mismatched eyes always gave me attention, since not a lot of people carry scars from when they lived. So I fought and stole until I saw an evil soul reaper mess with some kids I took under my wing. I thought I could take them so….. I tried to fight then. Boy was that stupid. But it gave me the courage to want to be a part of the Gotei 13. I wanted to be better than those suckers. And so I joined the academy and...here I am. Not much has changed really. Not much to talk about.”
She finished the sentence off with a hard smile, the truth coming out of her mouth making her even sadder. She didn’t have any good stories to tell about her time in 5th. She hasn’t done anything worthwhile. Hasn’t made any progress. It was embarrassing and super foolish-
Wait
Himari suddenly stood up, almost looking like a blur as she did so. Her hand would grab at her Zan with tightness. She felt unknown spiritual pressure coming near them. At a fast pace
looks like we got company. Nice chat though, tell me about you next time.”
She said this with her eyes glued to the gate. Closer they came before their voices could be heard
"sorry for the intrusion but we have little time; a call came in from Karakura town from our 3rd seat! Several menos grande have erupted from gargantas in Karatown and we need access to it! Please get permission to open the gate for the 13th division as soon as possible!"
It's only been four days since a big episode happened, and now this? Seems like others outside of herself seemed to get themselves into stuff all the time. And they wondered why she would rather read in her room. But, she remembered their third seat, Oyama Hoshi was her name wasn't it? She had met her almost forever ago.
”we are awaiting word from our Lieutenant here."
At this, the young girl raised their eyebrow. She knew of the thirteenth squad's Lieutenant as well, having met him along with meeting Hoshi. He was a nice guy, for the most part, and it was nice to hear he had done well with himself and was promoted. She almost smiled, if it wasn’t for the fact that they ran all the way here rashly without getting word from their Lieutenant beforehand.
” I'm sorry to hear about your third seat, Oyama Hoshi. But I cannot let you pass, not without a word from Lieutenant Oda himself. I understand your squadmate is in danger, but you should know not to act rashly on fear without orders from your higher-ranked officer. We cannot let you pass.”
