Notable Features: Hashi is rather short in stature compared to the other members of the Gotei 13, standing 5’3’’ in height, which may seem average, but from her perception, others tend to tower over her. Her hair is a deep black, which heavily contrasts with the pale gray of her eyes, with no pigment, those that first come in contact with her believe that she is blind.

Personality: Hashidearu Kanojo, translated as “She who is the bridge” grew up within East Rukongai in the Minoboku district. Much like her district is known for, Hashidearu has developed a benevolent personality and is often unwilling to harm creatures that are perceived to be in a meeker state of reality than she is. This principle applies to wounded creatures and often extends its grace to opponents as well. As a child, Hashidearu spent her time with orphans, although she had two loving parents who met her needs, her parent’s believed that befriending those on the fringes of society would not only show Hashidearu the truth of life, but also promote curiosity and intrigue about its mysteries. As she grew, she learned to love all creatures big and small and began to negate the notion of status.

Despite her eerie nature to cause little harm, Hashidearu is deeply territorial and is often the first to defend and protect during an adverse event. When she played with the orphan children of the Rukongai, she also took on their appearance: muddied, unkempt, and often unrecognizable to her parents when she got home. This led her to learning the perseverance of being in the nitty gritty and the grace that comes when she is able to bath it all off in a hot bathe, washing her hair and submerging under hot, bubbly water.

Even to this day, Hashidearu has held true to her virtuous principles and peaceful ideas, that however, has not stopped her from joining the Gotei 13 to protect the world in which she lives. Hashidearu seems to have a balanced soul, able to see the worlds that connect each other in a way that interconnects them. Spreading this inherent trait to those around her, although she does believe in the strong and the weak, her complex notions of the worlds have become indescribably flat. It is as if she cannot differentiate Captain from citizen and Hollow from Espada, she treats them all equally. Despite this flat sense of the world, she perceives and judges based off of her duties to the roles that she is assigned. Although she believes in the balance of Hollow, Shinigami, Quincy, and even the mutt-like creatures that come from these pairings, as long as the scales are never tipped too far, she peacefully moves about her life and does as she pleases.

Centered around wholescale justice, Hashidearu is often very aware of herself and her surroundings. Although she is not omniscient in any sense of the word, she believes that her just observations of the worlds and the intertwining of their bridges gives her a different judicial process within her mind. She sees, understands, and operates in the world according to her benevolent will while exerting the full spectrum of her emotions. Her personhood and the softness that exudes from it is said to be unshakeable even in the midst of death and destruction.

Reiryoku Level: Great Spiritual Power
Hashidearu Kanajo wields large amounts of spiritual pressure. Unlike her small stature, her body exudes great amounts of spiritual power, however this usually goes unnoticed due to the fine control she uses to keep it tamed. Hashi’s spiritual power manifests itself like a calm lake with little wind. Although it is deep and teaming with life, it seems to appear stagnant, only the surface ever being seen. Hashi’s great spiritual pressure is showcased only as she sees fit. She understood that having spiritual power was one thing, but being able to utilize it as she saw fit was a different feat. Even as a student in the academy, she spent much of her time diving deep into the limits of her spiritual power by releasing it in slow, constant streams, almost as if she was placing a dam up within herself and only allowing small pools of her spiritual power to form. Due to constant effort, she has developed spiritual pools within her that flow from one large dam. Her spiritual pressure is often misdiagnosed and often incalculable by others due to her fine control, however, at its full potential it is able to cause enough pressure to create weather phenomenon in the area.



Sensing Reiryoku: Expert

Hashidearu possesses refined skill in locating and deciphering the source of a spiritual presence. She is capable of quickly reading spiritual energy and breaking it down to understand the reiryoku patterns that they emit. With deadly accuracy and quick perception, this aids her in combat, however she utilizes much of her sensory techniques to track other spiritual beings over varying distances. By being able to pick up on acute trails of spiritual residue and following it, she is also just as capable of noticing subtleties in reiatsu use of her opponent.


Reiryoku Control: Great Control
Hashidearu’s reiryoku control has been honed and trained to great lengths. She is capable of flowing channeling and distributing spiritual energy throughout her body. Through her training, Hashidearu is able harness her spiritual powers and enhance her abilities with little concentration on her part, even firing off several kido within quick succession, showcasing her ability to avoid quick fatigue by neatly proportioning her spiritual power. Along with being able to render herself spiritually invisible to other spiritually aware beings. Much more noticeable through the release of her kido as well as the control she has shown regarding her Zanpakuto’s abilities, she is deeply in tune with the flow of reiryoku within her body and is still exploring its depths.

Reiatsu: Expert
Hashidearu’s fine control of her reiryoku gives benefits to the expulsion of her reiatsu, unlike reiatsu that bursts forth and expands outward and upward, Hashidearu’s reiatsu softly encircles her. Much like meditation, Hashidearu is not entangled in a wrestle with her reiatsu in an attempt to tame it, in fact, she is the observer and allows her reiatsu to ebb and flow within its natural state just as the planets slowly follow the energy that pulls them. In doing so, she has been able to understand the natural flow of her own reiryoku levels and reiatsu expulsion in a way that has allowed her to carve spiritual “river beds” to give it a place to go. She does this understanding that she has not reached the full potential of exerting her reiatsu or tapping into her deep levels of reiryoku, through constant carving she is able to flood her riverbeds and exude reiatsu to combat against other spiritual pressures even when it appears that seconds ago she had little to none.

Reiatsu Colors: Black

Reiatsu Shape: Orbital

Reiatsu Effect(s):
Dearu’s reiatsu manifests itself as an orbital ring made of black energy that surrounds a few feet around her. Dust, debris, and objects will begin to levitate and surround her as her reiatsu mimics the orbital field of her zanpakuto. When released in large amounts, the pressure created by the rapid rotation of her reiatsu around her body and subsequently the surrounding area, can blast away matter that resides just outside of her reiatsu’s orbit by increasing her output. At the full release of her reiatsu, she is capable of displacing large objects such as great trees and even buildings to erode and enter her reaitsu’s orbital field. Those that maintain their proximity will feel an intense force pushing against them in an attempt to sweep them into the current, the pressure of rotating and revolving energy is enough to cause bruising and even asphyxiation, as the air around Dearu is subject to the orbital pull as well.

Zanjutsu Level:
Zanjutsu (斬術, Swordsmanship; Viz "Art of the Sword"): Expert

Though the first weapon she picked up were her hands and her knife, when learning the art of zanjutsu, along with the offensive capabilities of using a sword, she grew more fond of utilizing her opponent’s own force and momentum against them to protect herself and land opening blows. Able to wield a tanto in one hand and a regular katana in the other to provide for optimal defense and swift counter attacks. Due to her proficiency with the knife, learning the way of the sword was not too difficult for her, however she has only been training with a katana since the start of the academy, while others have had lifetimes with their sword. Hashidearu’s sword style feels like an extension of her own body when held close and defensive, on the offense she utilizes her speed and pin-point accuracy to land slashing blows that are wounding to the enemy. A clear mind and focus accompany her zanjutsu technique, coupled with near constant observation with her physical and spiritual senses of the opponent. Although she may not be able to beat a master swordsmen in the Art of the Sword she is able to hold her own and occupy their time, taking and deflecting heavy blows to tire them out before striking herself.



Known Techniques:
Ketsugidō (決議道, "Way of Resolution"): On the whole, Hashidearu engages in a passive form of combat and is often the preferred style of benign combatants who are unwilling to slay their foes; guardians, rather than killers. Hashidearu prefers to use the ferocity of her opponents against them, however. Dependent upon composure, perseverance, and economy of movement, it emphasizes defensive techniques performed with the employment of tight motions of the blade, as well as graceful dodges. The nigh-constant, efficient swings of the sword are intended to cover a wide area, and offer substantial protection with little effort on the her part. Poise and focus are essential. Practitioners of ketsugidō strive to outlast their typically more aggressive opponents owing to their impressive resilience and optimal delivery.

Kamae: Chūjiku (中軸, "Pivot"): Stalwart defense. Hashidearu often assumes a stable stance with her legs slightly spread. The three body centers of mass are aligned on a vertical axis to ensure optimal balance. Furthermore, the sword is held upward at a high angle, in front of her. The posture is intended to form the foundation of an impenetrable defense as she provides herself with high stability making her capable of quickly moving the blade to intercept any attack.

Tantōjutsu (Short Sword Technique) Hashidearu is effective in extreme close-quarters environments where ordinary swordplay might have difficulty. While learning to utilize the Way of Resolution with a sword, she was also trained in utilizing short swords to make up for the lack of aggression, able to use opening gaps and distortions in a sword user’s skill to counter with a disciplined art and complex system of techniques involving stabs, strikes, slashes, grips, and weapon-disarmament.

Aburaha (油刃, "Oil Blade"): A distinct stance that requires precise positioning of the sword. The technique allows the Hashidearu to protect herself with minimal effort as the correct angle causes the enemy's attacks to virtually slide off her blade with but a fraction of their original force.

Furiko (振り子, "Pendulum"): A bizarre yet versatile defensive technique. Hashidearu holds her Zanpakutō pointed downward with the main hand, and maintains the off hand on its pommel. As a result, she is capable of swinging the blade in a pendulum-like fashion that allows to effectively protect two-thirds of her body. Moreover,she may quickly swing the Zanpakutō upward to defend her upper body as well, should the need arise.

Kenkanmon (剣関門, "Sword Barrier"): Designed as one of the alleged "absolute defense" techniques, this maneuver involves a continuous series of broad swings in order to produce the so-called "Sword Barrier". Preferably, Dearu is capable of covering all vital spots due to the sheer speed of the blade. Needless to say, the technique requires substantial practice to perform properly. She is able to defend from multiple sword strikes, ambushes, and omnidirectional attacks. Because of the effort involved, the move is best used sparingly to defend only from particularly dangerous assaults, such as volleys of strikes performed by particularly nimble opponents, or a whole group of them at the same time.

Kyozetsu (拒絶, "Rebuff"): This basic move is very effective in its simplicity. Rather than allow the enemy to perform their strike unabated, Dearu parries abruptly with a swift and powerful one-handed swing of the blade. Frequently, the technique is sufficient to disrupt the opponent's attack. Thus, she can launch her own counter-offence immediately afterward.

Narashijū (馴らし獣, "Taming the Beast"): The move involves twisting her wrists whilst performing a thrust to unexpectedly intercept and force down the enemy's blade. Subsequently, Dearu can block the opponent in this position to force a stalemate.

Tawami (たわみ, "Deflection"): Dearu redirects the momentum behind the enemy's slash by guiding her blade to the side. This can disrupt the opponent's stance, and serve as an opportunity to strike back.






Hohō Level: Expert
Hashidearu takes the concept of hoho very seriously and believes that it benefits a fighting style that allows her to tire her opponent and subdue them without much physical force on her part. Due to her stature, she understands that she must be physically fit to contend with not only the size of her opponents, but also the raw force that they can exert. Through constant exertion and tiring of her physical body, she is capable of utilizing her raw strength coupled with hoho to move at immense speeds. Wanting to be a member of the Gotei 13 since a preteen, her parents created weights for her to wear around her wrists and ankles. At current she is capable of bearing 250lbs of weight on each limb despite her small stature. Showcasing that even with weight bearing down on her she is exceptionally fast.

Hakuda Level:
Hakuda (白打, White Hits; Viz "Hand-to-Hand Combat:Expert

Hashidearu is an excellent hakuda expert and must continue to strengthen her natural physical prowess to take down opponents that tend to be much larger than her. Although she does not prefer hand to hand combat, she is trained in brazilian jiu-jutsu and bujinkan taijutsu and focuses on grappling, which can be used with her short blade, submission holds, and balance. By taking control of her opponent through dominant positions she is capable of defending herself against dominant, stronger, and heavier opponents by leveraging her agility and weight distribution. Through her style of combat she is able to utilize compression and joint locks to varying degrees to cause immense pain and break bones should she choose to.

Along with learning how to take down opponents larger than herself, she has designated much of her time to studying pressure points and Kyoshu Jutsu to target small areas to cause great pain. In an attempt to attack the nervous-system and subdue them via motor dysfunction, balance disruption, disorientation or even knockout depending on what pressure points she hits. She is capable of affecting the pressure points of her opponent with thrusts of her fingers, palms, and fist, making her a versatile fighter, often able to stun an opponent's limbs given a chance.

With the help of her height and little weight, Dearu is capable of maneuvering her body instinctively to respond to incoming stimuli. With the ability to form reshi sheets with her feet and hands, she is capable of turning almost any terrain into some sort of invisible parkour route, able to step finely and with absolute balance as long as she is able to see or sense the environment that she is in. With her quick perception along with her clear mind, she has excellent control over the way that her body moves and how much energy she puts into each of her muscles, making her the master of her own body even under fatigue.


Facing larger opponents has left Dearu bruised and battered, often breaking bones, however this has not stopped her from healing, getting back up, and trying again. Through sheer will power she has developed exceptional durability and strength, able to land blows and lock opponents in constrictive holds that might come from a man twice her size. Amplifying her physical strength and swiftness with her reiryoku, she has proved herself to be a fierce combatant even when disarmed. Should she land blows to her opponent’s pressure points with her strength she can quickly paralyze limbs.

Kido Skill Level: Expert

Hashidearu’s fine reiryoku and reiatsu control allows her to pursue her interests in kido and many of its facets. Even in the academy, she believed in kido and their use as not only a defensive and offensive craft, but a healing one, taking note of its benevolence and its diverse capabilities. Dearu is capable of calling upon various kido with quick succession and is consciously able to keep track of how much reiryoku and reiatsu is used during her attacks. Although she is capable of utilizing a wide array of kido, her focus pertains to bakudo and seals, knowing more of them than hado and able to utilize them more efficiently. Despite this she is a versatile kido user and could quite possibly go toe-to-toe with an opponent with just the use of her physical prowess and kido should she attempt so. Through ingenuity and constant practice, she hopes to continue to excel at her affinity for bakudo and eventually further her usefulness to healing kaido.

Skills and Abilities:

Experience Lover: As a lover of experience, Dearu often learns that way. By diving into something whether she completely understands the concept or not, she is able to quickly learn through sheer joy and enthusiasm. An author once wrote about how exuberance and play where the tell-tale signs of how a child would progress in their studies and Dearu is full of enthusiasm in everything she does.

Meditation: Through constant years of meditation, Dearu has learned to listen to her surroundings even while falling unconsciousness, though her hearing does slowly fade away. She is also capable of slowing her heart rate even amidst injury through the calming of her mind and body. Dearu is capable of subduing her often racing thoughts through active meditation and focus, allowing her to make wise decisions during before and after a battle while not negating her emotions or stress, but using them to act effectively and with her best judgement considering all factors in tow.


Pin-point Accuracy: Kyosho Jutsu, or the art of pressure-point fighting, requires precise movements at often extreme and consecutive speeds as well as anatomical knowledge of the bodies of living and spiritual beings. She has studied the anatomy of hollows, shinigami, quincy, and humans and utilizes her quick perception and knowledge to land paralyzing blows to body parts and even the entire body as a whole. By disrupting the nervous system through pin-point-accuracy combined with her speed and agility, she is capable of disarming and paralyzing several opponents at a time.

Excellent Seamstress: Dearu is an excellent seamstress and spends much of her free time designing clothes to donate to orphanages. She also designs her own clothes and is learning how to dye fabrics. She finds much peace within the art of sewing, as it is as puzzling as it is relaxing. The ability to make clothes out of fabric, creating something out of simple sheets, brings her much joy. She will often take requests to sew clothes for family members and friends when she has free time.

Story-Teller: One of the things that kept the orphans entertained was storytelling, because of this, Dearu had to tell a story each day to the orphan kids that she played with. Although she had stories of her home life to pull from, she didn’t believe that the orphans would be able to relate, so instead she began to fabricate stories of both simple and grandiose nature, entertaining the children and even the adults that stumbled upon them. Due to her prowess in telling stories without even needing a beat to think one up, it is also nearly impossible to tell when she is lying, even her pulse remains stable when telling a lie— what is a lie but a good story? Don’t we all believe a good story.

Tanto: A short sword used about 6.5 inches in length holstered on her left hip.
Weights: Dearu wears 250lb weights on all her forearms and lower calves to continue strength training even when she is doing ordinary things in day to day life. Although they are for constant training, they also act as physical limiters, slightly reducing her speed and the exertion of her physical strength by 30% .
Denreishinki X (伝令神機, Divine Messenger Machine)
The Denreishinki is an electronic inter-dimensional communications device used by Shinigami while on an assignment in the Human World. It looks nearly identical to the cellphones found throughout the Human World, and comes in many different designs.

Zanpakuto Name: Hoshi no kyokugei-shi (Contortionist of the Stars)
Zanpakuto Appearance: Dearu’s zanpakuto is a standard katana with a pitch black matte sheathe.

Zanpakuto Spirit: Hoshi no kyokugei-shi takes on a unique form as a black nongendered mass with planets and stars orbiting around them at all times. They are capable of altering their size and are always in the center of whatever celestial bodies are within their innerworld. They often present themself in an astronomical size, both filling the void of their inner world while also being one with it.

Inner World: Black. Darkness. Much like the void of space, Hoshi no kyokugei-shi’s inner world stretches for countless eons. Always at its center is Hoshi no kyokugei-shi, however at times their can be various solar systems and galaxies moving about the void, often the only system that illuminates the void even slightly are the stars and planets that revolve and rotate around Hoshi no kyokugei-shi.

Release Phrase: Chuo no suwaru, Hoshi no kyokugei-shi (Seat Yourself at the Center, Contortionist of the Stars)

Shikai: Upon its release, the Dearu’s zanpakuto turns into a pitch black tanto and is incapable of reflecting light.

Shikai Special Ability: Dearu’s zanpakuto’s ability lies within the creation and manipulation of orbital forces, often seen as the force that revolves the celestial bodies in an elliptical course. Through her shikai, Dearu is able to create an orbital field around herself to create a host of effects like calling and repelling, creating spiraling shields, vacuums, hurl items, or induce explosions from the sheer pressure of the orbital force that she creates. At its surface her zanpakuto’s shikai ability resembles telekinesis, however this is untrue, her zanpakuto allows her to create orbital designs that dwell on manipulating the vectors of objects and energies that enter her field. When a substance is caught within her designed orbital path, she is capable of manipulating its trajectory as she pleases, whether it is building her defense or launching a counter attack.

Nuno no yo ni fitto (Fit like cloth): By bringing her orbital field close to her, Dearu is able to create a skin tight field of orbital energy that augments her physical capabilities, allowing her to extend the orbital field and use it for more personal effects such as enhancing her defense by deflecting blunt attacks and also enhancing her hand to hand combat by increasing her blows with expulsions of orbital forces. She is even capable of sending out bursts or slashes of condensed orbital energy capable of destroying matter by using the rotational force to rip and tear through it as if it was entering an orbit, including clashing against spiritual energy.

Hakidasu (Sweep Up): Dearu is capable of utilizing her orbital force to create a large vortex of pressurized condensed orbital energy that takes the form of a tornado to protect herself and her allies from multiple angles. By enclosing herself in a vortex she is capable of dispersing energy based attacks while also shredding those that would attempt to enter with their bodies. She is capable of using this ability to encircle just the lower half of her body, imbuing her with a cyclone that gives her the illusion of flight.

Biography:

Growing up in one of the benevolent districts of the Rukongai gave Dearu many benefits, in fact, she had both her parents and was well cared for. Her parents made sure that she was well learned, equipt with many skills and talents, and due to her natural reiryoku reserves, well trained. They believed, and instilled the belief in her, that she was capable of anything. Although Dearu had many friends at school and in her extra-curricular activities, she spent much of her time playing with the orphan kids around her district. Her parents, although wary of her new found group, allowed it and decided that it could do no harm. Soon Dearu had raised herself up to be second in command of the orphans and worked in tandem with the leader Saki to perform little raids on carts and stores, and pick pocketing those that found themselves on the wrong side of town. By the age of 8, Dearu and her group had accumulated quite the renown among the orphans and she was jokingly called the Orphan Fairy.

Dearu’s experience in living on the streets, while also having a bed to come home to every night and lay her bed down gave her different perceptions of the world. She understood what it was like to live amongst the poorest among her while also having the comfortability of not truly feeling the starvation and the hunger they felt. Often she would bring them snacks if one of their raids had gone awry: fruit, vegetables, and rice would often be carried in her little sack, however, it was always impossible for her alone to feed everyone. Dearu grew up with these orphans and learned how to fight using a knife, pick pocket, and thieve in both darkness and broad daylight. Once she joined the academy she had to leave the double life of a vagabond behind, however, she hopes to one day make it to a rank that will be able to affect the lives of those that she grew up with on the streets and those that she never met who were in similar positions like her.

She believed that all things required balance, and it was just as fair for an orphan to steal food as it was for a rich man to throw it out. If the scales were so tipped that those with excess were ravaged by gluttony and still unable to use their resources efficiently, then the excess should naturally go to those that are without. Despite her past antics, she is a rather benevolent creature, even when she learned the name and ability of her zanpakuto she figured that she would be wonderful support and defense for her squad, however, because of this and her size she knew that she would have to be able to support herself, just like she did in the streets of the Rukongai. She benefitted from her parents allowing her to live the secret life of a vagabond, as if she too was fighting for survival everyday during the summers and winters when she didn’t have school. The world is full of danger, mystery, and imbalance. Dearu believed that if she could experience it all, even up to the edge of death, she would at least be able to bring balance back to a few people’s lives.

The Nokiribi Clan heavily influences the Shino'o Academy and the monetary assets of the entirety of the Soul Society. Although one of the lower noble clans, the Nokoribi's influence could amount to the same level as that of the four great noble families due to their business in the trade of currency. With striking, ruby-red hair that compliments her almond-toned skin, Nana's appearance earns lingering gazes that fuel her pride in how she looks. Born into wealth due to her clan's trade business, her infatuation with gold has been expressed in more ways than one, from the teardrop earrings to the ringed choker, and even the silk garbs that possessed golden hues around her waist and shoulders. Even her clan's crest that hangs from the right side of her hip by thickly woven is formed from gold. Outside of the neutral facial expression that she wears naturally, there seems to be a permanent blush on her face, giving off a rather rosy complexion that adds to her natural beauty.

Personality: Born into a wealthy lifestyle, Nana has been raised with a golden spoon in her mouth, and if she asked for anything, she received it without question or resistance. Someone raised in this environment would normally be seen as manipulative and cruel as they get older, using their wealth and status as an excuse for their behavior, but Nana hadn't turned out in that typical fashion. While her parents had helped monetarily raise her, it was her lady-in-waiting who had raised her to effectively converse and perform with those inside and outside of her status. Once she'd joined the Shino'o Academy to follow her two elder siblings, Nana was faced with a large reality check of how rough this lifestyle was; if not for the encouragement of her lady and help from her brothers, Nana would have perished in terms of good sociability. Even with the many years of teaching from her helpers, Nana has many instances in which she is considered "slow" to catch the drift of things.

Often speaking in a straightforward and unfiltered manner, Nana speaks at the first thought that happens to slip out, and that usually catches those around her off-guard. Such a way of talking has made Nana appear unapproachable and brash when in reality, she'd simply spoken how she felt in that moment. Reading the room was not one of her strong suits. The Nokoribi noble acts often without hesitation or regret, finding her actions to be pure and made out of a good gesture even if it gets her chastised. While acting most times on her feelings, even Nana would learn that not all choices could be made by the heart alone. It is these times that often sadden her the most, but she understands more than anything regarding the balance between duty and feelings.

After her graduation from the Shino'o Academy, Nana had become an instructor to both teach and appease her fascination with the world of the living. While highly skilled in terms of zanjutsu, rather than become a sole instructor pertaining to that technique, Nana had taken the role of an overseer when it came to student expeditions for firsthand experience against hollows, performing Soul Burials, and the general practices of what to expect after their graduation. Nana had essentially become an aptitude instructor, sending students to both their desired and befitting divisions that valued them in performance and character. Even after leaving the Third Division to assist in the Thirteenth, Nana's relationships with her students are strong as some still keep in contact with her years after they graduate.

The only thing Nana proves to lack is her perception of money. Being surrounded by it, Nana often gauges poorly on the price of things and has been seen trying to use solid gold bars of kan to pay for simple lunches out in the Rukongai in her youth. Her genuine confusion earns the sympathy of all business owners due to them being unable to take her payment in fear of the Nokoribi wrath for "duping" their daughter, but Nana insists under the guise of paying for future dining experiences all while paying what could be 100x the amount of the meal and service. All small business owners are thankful for her generosity and patronage, giving the Nokoribi their utmost support and further influencing the power that their noble clan has in the public eye.

Relatives: Nana is the seventh child of the lesser-noble Nokoribi Clan, but not the youngest. She is the third of her immediate family to have joined the Gotei Thirteen, two elder siblings having perished in past conflicts. While earning the disapproval of her parents for having joined after expressing their worries, they still support her and provide financial assistance to her and her respective division to keep motivation high. As one of the main influencers of the Shino'o Academy and currency trade.

Reiryoku Level: High Spiritual Power ——— Reiryoku Control: Great Control

Nana's spiritual power could be considered above average for the standard shinigami but an infant in comparison to the monsters that lead the great Gotei Thirteen. From a family that has deep ties into both militaristic and government aspects in the Soul Society, Nana's lineage is more than accounted for when it comes to the amount of strength that resides in her, and her execution of that special prowess is more than finely tuned. The refinement of her spiritual power caused the rumored ideal that Nana possesses what could be a near-infinite pool residing within, yet it is due to her amounted mastery in control that allows for this facade to continue.

Everything requires reiryoku. Even the slightest amount of movement would require a set amount of energy. Having the ability to control one's reiryoku to a fine point allows for less strain on one's body and energy as a whole. Nana's speed in being able to cast powerful spells at a moment's notice and in quick succession account for the amount of amicable control and spiritual power she possesses. While incomparable to renowned masters, Nana's heightened and nearly mastered control allows for her to supersede performances made by her peers that tend to show off and end things in a much faster fashion.

The Nokoribi noblewoman's tactics are far more suited to endurance-type battles over outright power plays, further accenting her exceptional ability in terms of reiryoku control. However, Nana understands that she still lags behind those that have attained ultimate control in terms of their reiryoku and strives to further her skill in order to obtain the power she desires so strongly. Nana's mastery has also allowed for an extremely durable body that can be manipulated in different places by pouring a set amount of reiryoku in order to protect the specified region such as her arm or even her stomach.

Sensing Reiryoku: Expert

Being able to differentiate and gauge the reiryoku of her opponents has always played in her favor. Doing so has allowed Nana to make the correct choices of either engaging her opponents directly or whether or not it was necessary to make additional adjustments in order to face off with the competition at hand. Paired with her ability to memorize even the smallest amount of detail, the accuracy of Nana's predictions of enemy movements is near-perfect. With such capabilities, Nana is able to avoid making fatal mistakes that could hinder both her and her allies. Her time as an academy instructor has also allowed for the utmost usage of her reiryoku sensory. Being one of the most popular teachers, Nana had a fair amount of individuals that would seek her out at any chance they could and avoid them with much ease to avoid unwanted confrontation, for even she needed some time to herself.

Reiatsu: Expert

Reiatsu is the physical manifestation of reiryoku, and Nana has gained an understanding of reiryoku enough to discharge her innate power into a physical being rather than just a flare of unbridled energy. Nana had joined Shino'o Academy at a much younger age than what was average among shinigami students, allowing for more time to train and implement her studies to become reality. Unlike many other shinigami, Nana's reiatsu does not damage the surrounding area physically. If distributed in a slow and concentrated form, Nana's reiatsu is formless and first begins to rise from her feet like billowing clouds as a slow burn method. If it happened to release in a short and powerful burst, Nana's reiatsu is capable of taking a rather malevolent form to gaze upon, causing the ground beneath her feet to quake at the most. For Nana, who is seen in a graceful light, to possess such a demonic-looking reiatsu shape, she is the embodiment of the lesson to never judge a book by its cover. Outside of the shape itself, Nana's reiatsu effects can spread fear to those within the surrounding area, sending chills to run right down their spines and causing them to falter from their original actions if even for a moment.

A blade had never been seen as a tool; it was a simple extension of oneself, able to touch what was out of their immediate reach and to wield two blades to such an extent had made Nana into a perilous opponent that was difficult to face off against in zanjutsu alone. While there are four standard combat methods for a shinigami, Nana has only managed to obtain mastery in one, not that she minds. As what could be argued to be the main form of shinigami combat, Nana's aptitude with her blade in both sealed and unsealed is what puts her on another level in comparison to those of her age.

During her time as an academy student, Nana was placed into Class One because of her skills with a blade. From the fundamentals of zanjutsu techniques to where even a single-handed swing could split a building in two, the amount of blood and sweat she'd given to perfect her craft is insurmountable. Incomparable to natural geniuses or prodigal children, Nana's methods of combat are suited to her advancement by any means, making her a master in her rite.

While her Shikai blade had strayed from the traditional Japanese sword, it didn't stop Nana from excelling further from the slight adjustment to her fighting style. Nana's relationship with her Zanpakuto spirit, Hinan Kojiki also acts as a stronger conduit, especially when performing zanjutsu techniques in her Shikai. Nana's additional skill of making even a blunt practice sword deadly is a feat in itself, as she is capable of discharging physical reiryoku to take the shape of a blade and provide the same results with a sharpened weapon.

Nana's aptitude in hoho is dwarfed compared to what she can do in Zanjutsu. Unlike many who use Hoho to travel vast distances in a short amount of time, Nana uses her form of hoho to evade her opponents in terms of close-quarters combat or advance in her attacks. Alone, it is nothing more than simple dodging and weaving between attacks but to apply it with her skills in zanjutsu is what makes her a threat worthy to face that you can't hold back against. Nana practices furthering her shunpo mastery by traveling the long distances between Shino'o Academy and the Thirteenth Division in lesser time. Unbeknownst to many, Nana's perception of time is also flawed, often causing her to be late for her classes or lunches with acquaintances.

Hakuda Level: Novice ——— Kidō Skill Level: Kidō Expert

Nana had never liked the kind of close-quarters combat that Hakuda needed to have applied, only due to the reason that she didn't have any strength that could make her hits hurt like the renowned masters such as the Captain-Commander or Omoni Hageshi. Other than what she was required to learn in the Academy, Nana knows absolutely nothing in terms of Hakuda techniques. Her frame is thin and nimble but she does not possess the muscle composition to shatter bones nor tear muscles from the calculated punches that those who are far above her in terms of mastery. Nonetheless, Nana can delve out a rather vicious kick to the shin that will send you crumpling to the floor out of surprise.

Kidō, however, was something that surprised both her and her instructors when learning just exactly what she was good at. Though not as pursued as zanjutsu was, Nana's ability in spell casting is a feat in itself for the zanjutsu main. Rather than use it as a secondary skill, Nana has learned to be able to apply her spells amid a battle. Lacking in terms of speed and strength, Nana capitalizes on the speed of her Bakudō casting to hinder her opponents in multiple layers in order to take them down. The amount of effort she had put into being able to cast such powerful spells in short bursts require practice and time as to not suffer from reiryoku depletion for extended periods. By having such fine control, Nana's endurance is leagues above those that fight with extreme fighting styles that drain their reiryoku at a much faster rate.

However, the only problem that Nana faces is that she is incapable of performing any form of offensive spells or healing spells. Nana's usage of casting Kidō is solely focused on her mastery of Bakudō (縛道, Way of Binding) without an incantation and still be as powerful as a fully casted spell, known as Eishōhaki (詠唱破棄, "Incantation Abandonment"). Nana is also capable of the dual-spell casting known as Nijū Eishō (二重詠唱, "Twofold Incantation"). Nana could be considered on a level that of a Kidō Master with the way she alters how a kidō spell is cast, but because she is unable to perform Hadō (破道, Way of Destruction), Nana would never put herself on the pedestal that masters such as Yu Nakamoto or Tenzen Oda hold.

Known Spells: Nana is able to cast all numbered Bakudō, and even those unranked, such as Inemuri, Hanafuku, Tanma Otoshi, and Shibireyubi.

Nana is a dual-blade wielder in and out of sealed states. In her sleeves are twin tanto blades tethered to her forearms on a special holster. These tantos are standard blades with silver soul steel, forged with expert craftsmanship to make the blade oddly thinner than most. Other than the menuki and ito wrap, Hinan Kojiki is decorated in gold. The blade's menuki diamonds are shimmering red and the wrap itself is a stark white. Both saya matches the same white shade.

Hinan Kojiki takes the form of a woman clad in feudal-era Japanese attire and dons an ombre cloth that she uses to often hide her face, but even from a distance, Nana can see the fair skin and obsidian locks that her spirit possesses. An abnormality that the Spirit possesses would also be her unnaturally long arms with eyes embedded into them, constantly moving nonstop. In Japanese lore, this sort of yokai would be called a Dodomeki, or a cursed woman who has stolen money. Hinan Kojiki's relationship with Nana, while strong enough to have obtained Bankai, is considerably cold, often never offering any form of communication unless Nana seeks her out within her Inner World. Perhaps it is this childish way of performing that signifies Hinan Kojiki's loneliness. Though it isn't as if Nana minds adhering to her Spirit's wishes, she only wishes that the Spirit would say it rather than throwing a tantrum over it.

Inner World: Nana's Inner World is a rotting palace filled to the brim with gold coins and other assorted treasures. Broken pillars litter the sea of gold as if to serve as a warning to those that approach the gold of the dangers it entails. Hinan Kojiki is often resting on a distant throne, also crumbling and broken after eons of deterioration whenever Nana decides to make her appearance and refuses to move. Even while surrounded by the riches in which she had yearned for, Hinan Kojiki was miserable nonetheless, the rotting palace reminds Nana frequently just how unhappy one could be even with all the money in existence for only themselves.

Shikai Special Ability: Tesaki no Hayawaza (手先の早業, "Sleight of Hand")

Nana's Shikai shifts its form to mirror a weapon often referred to as hook-blades. capable of turning whatever it touches into gold, and furthers its growth by siphoning the reiryoku of the opponent inflicted. Of course, getting rid of that effect is more than easy in the event of self-mutilation to prevent further growth. Opponents can choose to ignore the growing gold infection, but can and will also be subjected to the feeling of heaviness entailed, causing their movements to become sluggish and forced. Hinan Kojiki's abilities can additionally petrify that specific area and restrict any form of movement wholly, leaving the opponent with nothing but a dead weight that will only hinder them during the altercation. Nana is also able to speed up the process by striking the opponent more than once in the same area, but would rather create more difficulty in choices by striking in different areas. With Nana being able to wield more than one blade, the shinigami is capable of both hindering her opponent on the defensive front while attacking further with her free blade. The curved portion of her blades serves for easy removal of an opponent's weapon without having to rip it away with her bare hands.

Bankai: Hinan Kojiki no Kuiratame (非難乞食の悔い改め, "Repentance of the Condemned Beggar")

Nana's Bankai covers a large array of the battlefield indefinitely. The legend of the Dodomeki is known to have repented for her sins and swore that she would commit no more evil. However, it seemed the temptations were far too much for Hinan Kojiki, and it became the downfall of the temple and its priests that had tried to save her only became corpses. In terms of its creation, Nana uses the crescent-moon blades attached to her handles to create the shape of an eye to create a single pulse that reverberates through everything within a hundred-meter diameter. The aforementioned area now creates a dome where it can enclose those in the set area of the casted Bankai and shield them from the outside. Both allies and enemies will be subjected to the events that happen within the dome, which is why if she chooses to release her Bankai, Nana must be facing her enemy alone. While dark within the dome, both parties are capable of seeing one another and the surrounding area.

Bankai Special Ability: Jiin Iseki no Man'en (寺院遺跡の蔓延, "Ruined Temple's Infestation")

Within the dome are abundances of rotten and bloodied mounds of flesh that stick to the walls and even sit in large clumps. If one were to come into contact with the substance, they'd find themselves being pulled in towards the wall and unable to retreat from it without effort. However, the purpose of these dangerous surroundings is only to distract the opponent. What is most dangerous are the monstrous optics that awake from slumber to stare them down with an ominous glow. Nana's Bankai has the ability to conjure an unlimited number of eyes that all serve the purpose of turning all those who manage to make direct eye contact with it can immediately turn its victims into gold statues. If her opponents are too focused on avoiding the eyes, they would miss the red-haired swordswoman aimed to separate their heads from their bodies. As if to make things even more difficult, the more the effects of the gold continue to spread on her opponents' bodies, the smaller the area of effect becomes, forcing them to draw closer to both Nana and the eyes that flood their field of view until they happen to defeat her or end up becoming a statue to pay tribute to the priests that that perished from a demon's greed.

Personal Relationships: From her time as an academy instructor, Nana has gained many strong relationships from both peers and students, and to account for all of them would require several sections to account for. There are many that she crosses paths with either during her class time or even on her breaks that spend time with her talking over milk tea or even lunch. Not to mention those she talks to within the Rukongai during her explorations for future shinigami.

⦿ Nana is obsessed with the Shinigami's Men Association, being one of the main contributors to their foundation since the release of the Male Calendar.

⦿ Nana often spends her money to provide for those in the lower Rukongai districts and enjoys spending time with the younger souls in search of those with the potential to become a shinigami so that they can provide for their own families rather than go unnoticed and continue living in poverty.

⦿ Nana teaches an optional business class in the Shino'o Academy and is nearly overflowing with students during each session, most times having to do the teaching in one of the courtyards due to the sheer amount of those interested.

⦿ Nana is especially skilled in calligraphy and embroidery. As a high-ranking lady in the world of nobles, Nana had to learn several skills in order to be considered a good daughter-in-law for her future spouse. To have become a skilled shinigami would add to those values.

Biography:

Nana Nokoribi is the seventh of ten children in the Nokoribi Clan. Daughter to the Nokoribi Clan Lord's third wife, Nana was considered very low when it came to inheriting the title of the Head of the House, not that she minded in the slightest. Whether she stay at home, wed into another family, or joined the Gotei Thirteen, a life of luxury would always be at her hand and foot. It is due to her lady-in-waiting that Nana was able to be raised with humility that most other nobles take for granted, thinking themselves far above the likes of normal denizens. For those same nobles to become shinigami had only added fuel to the fire, but Nana was the complete opposite, simply treating people as they deserve to be. Even as a soul-born shinigami, Nana has always possessed a fascination with souls, which is why she decided to join the Shino'o Academy to further her education with things such as Konsō, or Soul Burials. In her academic years, Nana had gained an aptitude for zanjutsu, excelling so far above her peers that she was placed within Class One simply because of this.

Even after graduation, Nana felt as though she could learn and experience more if she stayed at the place where it all began and had become a renowned Academy Instructor that also did optional business classes that were very popular with both the female and male population. More often and when she could, Nana was the overseer of many of the world of the living expeditions where students could both experience the process of a soul burial or deal with a hollow if they had managed to turn up at the time. Yet even with these expeditions, Nana felt as though her fascination wasn't sated in the slightest as she took a new interest in humans as a whole.

While the souls in the Soul Society await their moment of reincarnation, the humans lived every day as if their lives weren't as fragile as they were. Perhaps that was what had made Nana so interested in them and their daily lives. Being an academy instructor had a safety net that most other divisions did not, especially the likes of the Tenth and Thirteenth. Against her parents' desires, Nana had made the choice to transfer over to the Thirteenth Division in order to satiate this childish curiosity. Nana leads her own Patrol Unit in the Thirteenth Division as the Fifth Seat and only returns to the Soul Society to follow her teaching schedules or give her reports personally to the highest seated member. During her excursions, Nana faces off against many Hollows that reign terror in her jurisdiction and in her free time, explores the oddities of the human world. Luckily, the concept of money was around the same within the Soul Society, so the transition went rather smoothly. Her perception of it is still lacking and follows her to this day when she hands gold currency to cashiers.

Notable Features: Shiro has pure snow white hair which he wears kinda loosely except for a braid that trails down the side of his face. If he is ever seen shirtless, his body is covered in burns ranging from slight first degree to a severe third degree burn on his left bicep. The other notable feature is his almost constant smile. When not engaged in combat he has a soft grin and is always ready to crack jokes with the rest of his squad. However when he enters battle, His cheerful grin turns into a demeteted, sinister sneer that could chill even the most hardened veterans in their tracks.

Personality: Outside of battle, Shiro tries to be a reliable and dependable person, always ready to help out his fellows and give guidance to those who are below him. He is hard working and will never back down from a challenge. He is also a great tactician, making him a great opponent in both shogi and chess. He carries himself with a noble’s grace and dignity until he finds himself in a fight. Once his blade is drawn almost all of his cool and collected side vanishes. He often behaves so animalistic in his nature that many believe his blade actually possesses him. While he is relentless in battle he does plan every move. Each slash is opening up for a counter strike he has planned. Every back step is an attempt to get his opponent to overstep. There are times where these two drastically different personalities allgin, giving those who glimpse it, the truest version of himself

Relatives: Shiro started his time in the soiu society in District 80. Like most here, Shiro learned to fend for himself here and Killed some of its most notorious inhabitants. After Battling nonstop ,until no one dared approach “the White Wolf of Zaraki '' as they called him, Shiro began to make his way into the less hostile districts of the northern Rukogi. After a couple of years went by, He would stumble across the Three daughters of a disgraced noble family. All of them warming up to the then silent boy a, and after pleading for several days with their widowed mother, Shiro was adopted into the Kashitoji family and taught almost everything outside of combat that he knows. From how to talk and read, to how to behave when in the presence of nobles. Shiro learned and eventually made the vow that he would restore the Kashitoji’s clan honor no matter what.

Reiryoku Level:
High Spiritual Power-Shiro’s reiryoku has always been intense since he was a small child. Growing up in Zaraki only helped him to build it up even more. His ability to control however leaves much to be desired. Often Shiro chooses to just radiate as much of his reiryoku to hide those who are near him in an attempt to help hide the size of his team or group from enemies attempting to track them.
Sensing Reiryoku:
Basic-- Shiro’s Ability to sense Reiryoku is just great enough to sense something in his general area. He usually only uses this when he is in battle, often using it to sniff out his next opponent.
Reiryoku Control:
Novice Control-Shiro has little to no control over his reiryoku. Barely able to fire off simple kido, and at best hide most of his spiritual presence.




Reiatsu:
Specialist- Shiro emits a wave of heat when he exerts his reiatsu. While normally these waves of heat are barely noticeable except for in the winter, they have been known to cause some items Shiro is near to heat up. The most common of these being small metal utensils and sometimes bottles that he has been holding for a while. THe more Shiro exerts his energy the warmer this area of heat gets. In dry seasons, or near highly flammable objects , IT has been known to start fires. While this heats up stuff around shiro, he himself is cold to the touch and never really seems to get hot or cold.
Reiatsu Colors: His Rieatsu doesn't really have a color but manifests in undulating waves of visible heat, akin to those you would see in the distance on a hot summer day, simmering like waves on the ocean tides.
Reiatsu Type:
Element Type-Like mentioned before, His Reitsu emits a wave of heat and has the potential to cause fire and explosions if he's near gunpowder.




Zanjutsu Level:
Zanjutsu Swordsman- Shiro is no novice when it comes to swordsmanship. Upon learning he had little talent for using kido. Shiro sank all of his time in mastering the sword and perfecting his deadly hand to hand skills.While he may not be a master and know all the proper ways, his physical strength and ferocity make up for his lack of knowledge and experience.

Hohō Level:
Shunpo Practitioner- Shiro is by no means an expert at flash step but has used it rudimentary in most of his fights in Zaraki. Though his technique needs polishing, and he is still slow to most experts, .Shiro is still fast enough to use it as an optical illusion when he combines it with his Zanpakuto.

Hakuda Level:

Expert Hakuda Combatant- Shiro is an Exp-ert when it comes to fighting with his hands. The force from his punches are akin to canon blas, the strength of his kicks can practically split the earth beneath him, and the speed he can let off these attacks is terrifying.
Not really relying on fancy techniques, Shiro focuses on bringing people down hard with his strikes. Sometimes he has been known to actively throw away his sword and default to hand to hand combat instead as it allows him better control of the situation. Shiro does get really excited when his opponents match his skill in hand to hand combat. Oftentimes seeking out masters of Hakuda to better learn his weakness and eventually imitate their movements for himself.

Kido Skill Level:
Novice- Shiro lacks the ability to effectively use kido. His lack of control with his reiryoku makes most of the kido he attempts backfire or become highly volatile. While he does spend time learning about kido and the variety of techniques masters of kido can use, he doesn't ever bother attempting them. Only bothering with reading about them so he can never find himself victim to it.

-Shiro is a master at shogi, and its western counterpart,chess. Often having his last move already planned before the first move has ever been made. He loves when others push him to think and adjust his strategies. He is happy to sit down and play either game with anyone regardless of their skill.

Zanpakuto Name: Kurohōō Hime (黒鳳凰姫, Black Phoenix Princess)
Zanpakuto Appearance: Kurohōō Hime is an odd Zanpakuto. It appears as a normal blade but with two diagonal serrations at its tip, other than that odd feature of the blade it has a black and orange hilt, with a four point star design as its hilt guard.
Zanpakuto Spirit: Kurohōō hime changes its appearance from time to time, Most of the time settling on the form of a large black tiger with massive wings and white stripes down its body, or that of a slender girl with paw like hands and feet covered in black and white fur, and a giant set of wings lined with black red orange and gold feathers.
Inner World: Shiro’s inner world resembles that of a forest hot spring. A giant pond of steam filled water, surrounded by a sea of trees that stretches out as far as the eye can see. Kurohōō hime can usually be seen either bathing in the warm waters or else drinking from them. When Shiro enters his Shikai and Bankai the forest becomes a torrent of burnt dead trees, the flames still smoldering in their massive trunks and the lake now a pool of magma.
Release Phrase: Burn them with your ashes.

Shikai: Shiro’s Shikai takes the form of a smoldering branch from the end of which is a soft ember glow that spews out a giant cloud of black ash that hues of crimson and gold pulse through like heartbeats. The giant cloud naturally looms over and around Shiro unless directed towards someone.
Shikai Special Ability: Before releasing his zanpakuto, Shiro will point his sword in the direction of his target. During the release, the giant cloud will slowly undulating through the air towards its unsuspecting victims. Leaving behind charred and burnt remains of whatever it has touched. Shiro will often release his zanpakuto at point blank range or else use its release to hide himself within the dark mass of molten blades. While he doesn't need to, Shiro will often use his sword as sort of a conductor's baton, this gives him a bit more control over the slow moving ash. However if he needs to, he will convert the rest of his blade to ash by hitting someone with it, hence coating them with the searing flakes of smoldering metal

Biography:
Shiro was born in the North Rukon district of Zaraki. While he doesn't remember anything of his birth parents or if he even had them. He spent most of his time like many in that district fighting for survival, though shiro behaved more animal-like. HE would often attack anything on sight, be they animal or man. This, along with his untamed white hair and inability to speak, earned him the nickname of “The White Wolf of Zaraki.” Shiro would continue to be a loner until he came across a young kitten with white and black fur. Shiro began to care for the small animal and became extremely aggressive to those who came near it. One day Shiro was attacked by bandits who ended up cutting one of the small cat’s ears off. This sent Shiro into a blind rage where he whipped out the ruling warlords of Zarkai by himself. After whipping out most of Zaraki’s inhabitants, Shiro began to make his way to the inner districts.


Somewhere around the 64th district of the Rukon, Shiro Came into contact with a trio of young girls as they gathered around his momentarily unsupervised cat. Thinking it was a stray, the girls attempted to take it home with them until Shiro stopped them. Shiro growled at them until they stepped away from his cat. The girls were intrigued by Shiro and his odd colored cat. The oldest of the girls who was closer to his age, though a little bit older, was the first to attempt to become friends with the wild child. Spending most of her time either hunting for him or badgering him with a stream of non-stop questions. Not knowing how to respond, Shiro would begin to avoid her and the other girls until he got separated from his cat after getting into a fight with a horde of bandits who had tried to mug shiro. After dispatching the highwaymen, Shiro began searching the district, unable to find his small friend. Shiro would eventually find the three girls carrying a box and decide to follow them. Shiro followed them back all the way back to their home in the 1st district before comforting them. To his surprise the two youngest ones were excited to see him and handed him the box. They tried to explain they had found his cat and had been looking for him. Shiro still not knowing how to respond left, his cat asleep on his shoulder.

Though he never showed himself, he did follow the girls around as they wandered the Rukon. He had developed an odd obsession with them that he coulndt explain even to himself. Eventually, after seeing them get into trouble with a bandit leader, Shiro jumped to their rescue. After quickly dealing with the attacker, the girls invited Shiro to their home with the oldest one stating “It would probably be a nice treat for him to sleep in an actual bed for once.” After that Shiro followed the girls, and after they explained to their mother what he had done, The matriarch of the Kashitoji clan, offered Shiro a place in their home and christend him Shiro, on account of his white hair.

Shiro spent years learning how to behave and talk. While the first few weeks of teaching him manners were rough, Shiro did eventually take to the lessons in etiquette. Eventually she began to teach him how to play shogi, and it was there she made a lot of headway. Due to his deep interest in the game, she used the pieces as stand ins and ideas for how he should behave. While Shiro saw everyone of the Kashitojis as his true family, he couldn't suppress his feelings for the oldest daughter. While he knew she could never marry him, both on account of them being siblings and the fact he isn't nobility, his heart still yearns for her. Deciding to focus his unrequited love into something constructive, Shiro decided to enlist into the soul reaper academy. Deciding that if he couldn't have her hand, he would instead make sure her dreams came true and raise the Kashitoji clan out of their disgraced standing and back into the nobility of the Seretei.

Notable Features: Rei always keeps her fingernails painted and paints them according to the seasons and special events that take place within the Soul Society. She wears a tiger head pendant that's on a gold chain with matching earrings. Her eyes are light hazel, but they can look to be gold depending on how a room is lit or if the sun is shining on her eyes.

Personality: Rei is a friendly, helpful, and easy going person. Her laid back demeanor can have people mistakenly think that she doesn't take things very seriously but that's further from the truth. She doesn't let petty stuff get to her because in her mind it's a waste of time and energy. Her friendliness has made her popular in the 8th Division while serving as a 3rd seat, and as for her helpfulness she has done jobs that the others in her rank consider to be beneath them. When asked by a comrade why she does them, Rei replied that doing the littlest things can make a big difference and that one should take pride in their work no matter what the job is.

The woman rules over her division with a firm yet gentle hand. She gives credit where credit is due and if an officer steps out of line, she disciplines them accordingly. The seated and unseated officers in her squad value her opinion and respect her authority. They appreciate the fact that Rei takes the time out to listen to their grievances and will give their best in combat and non-combat situations. Of course, Rei will also lend an ear to her fellow captains and lieutenants of they have something to get off their chests.

She's a mid-range fighter in actual combat she prefers to use her sword because that's the first weapon she learned to use after coming to the Soul Society, but will do hand to hand fighting if an enemy decides to do so. She likes to be in the midst of battle and also doesn't mind being backed up if an opponent is beyond her skill level. When fighting Rei will give it her all and gauges her opponent's power by the attacks they use and it makes her quicker now that she knows how to fight them. Looking for weak spots and mistakes are on top of her list when combating.

Rei will push herself to the limit when fighting; especially if they are Hollows. To her the bigger the Hollow the harder it falls and also the greater the challenge. Once she and a couple other Soul Reapers had to quell an infestation of Hollows that were nesting too close to the Rukongai and they kept coming, almost outnumbering the Reapers. Rei did not give up and kept fighting. When the other two had seemingly run out of energy and wanted to call for more backup, Rei kept on fighting until the last one. Sure it drained all her energy and landed her in the hospital wing for a week for exhaustion and sustaining cuts and bruises but her fighting the creatures spread around the Seireitei somewhat like wildfire and earned points with the other Captains and Lieutenants.

Her defenses are strong but Rei thinks that they could be stronger. Losing a battle or retreating means to Rei that there will be another time to fight and that there is time to become stronger. Rei thinks that losing a battle isn't something to be ashamed of and knows that she gave it her all. Some battles are not worth losing your life and winning isn't everything.

Reiryoku Level: Immense Spiritual Power

Rei's spiritual power is higher than that of an average Captain's rank and that's thanks to her Zanpakuto spirit making the woman push past her limits during training to achieve Bankai. At first, it was a slow gradual process in which she'd receive small amounts of more concentrated Reiryoku from her Zanpakuto, but the woman's energy would automatically deplete or she'd pass out. Determined not to let that deter her from becoming stronger, Rei developed an eagerness to go beyond her current power level and took doses of higher concentrated Reiryoku to her body as much as she could handle. After months and a few years of finely tuned training, Rei was finally on the precipice of going past her limit. Her Zanpakuto spirit saw this and finally helped Rei achieve a greater spiritual power.

Sensing Reiryoku: Expert

Having an expert skill in sensing Reiryoku, it has given Rei an advantage over almost any opponent she's come across. It allows her to also strategize in battles and decide if a full on assault or a covert attack is needed. Her expertise also allows her to sense the different spiritual energy between Shinigami, Arrancar, humans, and Hollows. She can also see and touch Reiraku (霊絡, Spirit Coils; "Spirit Ribbons") and follow a ribbon straight to its owner.

Reiryoku Control: Great Control

Despite being a captain class Shinigami, Rei has great control over her Reiryoku and works on improving it so it can be at master level. She does wonder though if and when she masters her Reiryoku, would she be able to use it to send messages to fellow captains when in times of danger where verbal communication is out of the question. A spiritual energy S.O.S of sorts.​


Reiatsu: Master

Being a master Reiatsu user means she can control the level of out put she has and can also lower it so others can't sense her. Anyone or anything that is of lower power ranking can be affected by her Reiatsu if they are close by. For lower ranking Shinigami and Arrancars, the affect for them is that their bodies can being to vibrate at low frequency and for humans that are both spiritually aware and not, dizziness or becoming lightheaded can occur. She has come across a few very highly spiritually aware humans that showed none symptoms listed above. Although those humans were monks and priests of the highest ranking order.

Zanjutsu Level: Master Swordsman

As a master swordsman, Rei is able to go head to head with the most skilled of Shinigami, Quincy, and Arrancar. She can block some attacks without having to release her Shikai and the force and power of her blows when she swings her blade is powerful enough to to force an enemy back some feet. In addition, Rei is ambidextrous with her Zanpakuto; her right hand is equal to her dominant left hand.

Hohō Level: Shunpo Expert

Rei's Hohō skill is expert level and she can keep up with others who are in the same category as her, but can lose step with those who are of master level. Through vigorous training she was able to go from practitioner to expert. While a practitioner of the skill, she was only able to move short distances and tire out after a certain amount of time, but now as an expert, Rei can cover long distances. For example, when she was a beginner at Shunpo she could only go from roof to roof when roof hoping or while on the ground every twenty five feet. Now that she's an expert she can roof hop every four roof and cover a little bit over a mile and a half while on the ground.

Hakuda Level: Expert Hakuda Combatant

Hand to hand combat happens occasionally for Rei as she usually uses her sword when fighting enemies. Most of the time she uses her Hakuda skills is when she's sparring with some of the stronger members of her squad or if she can convince some of the other Captains to spar with her.

Kido Skill Level: Kidō Master

Being a master in Kido has taught Rei that it's always good to have options. Not every fight or skirmish needs a sword and when having to restrain someone, Kido is the way to go. In a honesty, the woman will use Kido to fight if the opposition has no weapon on their person. Her combination Kido is something to behold and she can combine the most basic Kido spells with ease while the harder spells take more time to form.

As a kido master, Rei doesn't need to recite the incantations for spells and she can create her own Hado and Bakudo spells.

Accessing situations quickly: Whenever Rei enters a new area, she's able to quickly access the place and situation to determine if they are in danger or safe.

Yoga - Rei has been doing Yoga ever since she was a student in the Shin'ō
Academy. It helped her relax and recenter herself after a long day of learning and studying. Now that she's a captain, Yoga provides her with a much needed stress reliever.

Crafter - Rei specializes in making resin based crafts. This includes charms and pendants for the Denreishinki, bracelets, earrings, and necklaces. Shew sells them at a reasonable price.

Hanabira (花びら - Flower petals): The most powerful healing Kido Rei knows. She perfected this technique on her own. Hanabira is a technique that Rei perfected by taking one flower, crushing it in her hands, and turning it into multiple petals when released. The petals are used to heal serious flesh wounds and life threatening flesh and organ injuries. To heal life threatening injuries, the petals cover the entire body and glow a bright blue color and for wounds, the petals are applied to the spot of the injury and glow a bright yellow. This technique is used for post-battles only.

Zanpakuto Name: Kami no Tora (神の虎 - Divine Tiger)

Rei's weapon appears like a normal Katana but when the sword is pulled out of its sheath sealed, there is an engraving near the tip of the blade and it says: "Tengoku no Tora" (天国の虎) which means "Heavenly Tiger". The hilt has two silver tigers chasing each other and hanging off the handle has two long gold and white ribbons hanging from the end. Rei wears her sword on her left hip.

Standing a 6'3'', Kami no Tora takes on the appearance of a handsome man whose dressed in a mix of traditional Chinese and Japanese clothing. On the shoulders of his top are tiger head epaulettes that connect together with a red rope. His hair is mostly white save for the tips which are black and his eyes are the color of the sky. Because of his half open shirt, black tiger stripes can be seen adorning his chest while two stripes can be seen on each side of his face. The Zanpakuto spirit has finely sharpened black claws at the end of his fingers and both of his ring and pinky fingers bear bronze rings. Despite his handsome and somewhat fierce looking appearance, he by nature has a kind heart and gentle soul, and encourages Rei to fight at her best and will tell her to keep her hopes up if she is doubtful about something, and that she has to take the bad with the good in order to live through life.

Inner World:

Kami no Tora lives in a Japanese Feudal Era house in the middle of the forest. The view from the veranda gives a vista of tall trees and a field of flowers, along with a small brook running through the forest. It's a calming place and gives the spirit a place to meditate. In the living room on the wall there are two large scroll paintings. One is of Rei dressed in an elaborate kimono carrying her Zanpakuto and the other is of her dressed in Samurai style clothing in battle with a Menos Grande. The weather changes with Rei's moods.

Release Phrase: Mezame (目覚め - Awaken)

Shikai:

When released, Rei's Zanakuto gains a faint white aura around the blade. The two ribbons at the end of the handle become a gold color, and the colors of tigers on the guard change from silver to gold. Low range energy pulsates from the blade that only Rei can feel and only can be felt by others if they are only mere feet from her.

Shikai Special Ability:

Tora no Ha (虎の刃 - Tiger Blade): The white aura swirling around her blade becomes powerful and the engraving on the tip glows red. Rei's Zanpakuto has the ability to control water so she can manipulate the moisture in the air or any body of water to her advantage. Because water is considered to be ever changing, constantly flowing, powerful, and calm, attacks can be close range and from a distance.

Additional Shikai Abilities:

Tatsumaki
(竜巻 Waterspout) - Pointing her Zanpakuto upward to the sky, Rei stirs it clockwise and the moisture from the air forms into a large towering water spout. She then sends it to her opponent and it catches them up in its funnel.

Tora no Kawa (虎の皮 Tiger Skin): This technique allows Rei's Reiatsu to become condensed and tiger stripes appear on her skin that show which parts of the body is being protected, which is usually her arms, legs, and face because they are exposed.

Tora no Tsume (虎の爪 - Tiger Claws) - This attack happens when Rei swings her sword and multiple crescent shaped blades fly towards her enemy causing heavy damage.

Isoide Suisha (急いで水車 - Rushing Water Wheel) - Swinging her blade, a wheel of water forms and rushes towards an opponent. Rei can control which direction the wheel travels for a short amount of time.

Bankai: Nishi no Kami Koshin (西の神虎神 - Divine Tiger God of the West)

Raising her Zanpakuto into the sky, Rei calls the name of her Bankai. Clouds gather into a circle and a beam of light shoots down from the center of it engulfing the woman. After a minuet or so, the light disappears and the 8th captain is standing there looking completely different. her captain's haori and shihakusho have been replaced by an elaborate kimono that almost mimics her Zanpakuto spirit's clothing. Her eyes become gold cat eyes, and her hair is decorated with a few elaborate hair pins. Tora no Kawa, one of the Shikai abilities becomes six times stronger. The blade of her sword gains a serrated edge and black tiger stripes. The atmosphere becomes calm but there is an underlined feeling fear since one would be in a way standing in the presence of a holy being. Shallow water fills the affected area.

Bankai Special Ability:

Rei and her opponent are enclosed in a pure white space with a shallow pool of water underneath their feet. A white Miwa Torii gate appears and in the middle, there is long thick red and white rope with two golden bells on either side. A gentle rain begins to fall which affects Rei, her allies, and opponents differently. The raindrops feel refreshing and cooling to her and friends while they're hot on enemies skin.

Additional Abilities:

Tora no Shisen
(虎の視線 - Tiger's Gaze): This technique causes paralysis to an opponent. Rei's eyes glow brightly, but she has to stay completely still when using her attack.

Maboroshi-bi Niji (幻日虹 - Parhelion Rainbow): Rotating her blade in front of her counter clockwise, Rei's blade glows brightly with Reiatsu creating a perfect circle that looks like it's shining with most of the colors of a rainbow with a glaring bright spot in the middle. This attack is used to temporarily blind opponents and create and opening for attack.

Byakko (白虎, White Tiger): It's end game when Rei uses this ability. The golden bells hanging from the Torii gate sound only once and the enemy becomes trapped in a black space where their surroundings have disappeared and they can't escape. Within seconds, what appears to be white wisps of smoke appears before them forming into a large majestic, fierce looking white tiger. Born in District 16 Heiwana Kawa (平和な川 - Peaceful River) of East Rukongai to a father who's a well respected business man owing some shops though out the more peaceful districts including one within the Nobles District and a mother who owns a flower shop. Her mother went through an eight hour birth without any difficulties. The newborn Rei was born with a head full of hair and when she opened her eyes for the first time, her parents saw that her eye color was hazel. She was also born in the year of the tiger.

Rei was shy when it came to meeting people for the first time and would take her a short while to warm up to them but when she did she felt at ease and would greet them like she had been knowing them all her life. As soon as she could walk and talk, Rei helped her mother out at the flower shop with small menial jobs. That's when she first fell in love with flowers. Especially lilies with roses being her second favorite. She saw big beautiful Japanese lilies being grown in the front window of the shop; the pink and white of the flower captured her interest.

In her late teens, Rei joined Shin'o Academy after she began to display her powers and dreams of her Zanpakuto spirit visiting her telling he that she needed to hone her Reiryoku before it could get out of hand and possibly end up hurting herself or others. She passed the entrance exam with flying colors, and flourished within the academy while making a few friends during her time there.

Great Spiritual Power-

Many who gaze into Shori’s depths note the great well of power that churns within her. Though she is still young, and her power is still growing alongside her and her alter, it exudes an aura of immense strength that can easily overwhelm people twice her age. Even within the Hoshi clan, which has brought about seated officers with notable levels of power, she is unrivaled. While many believe her vast power to be due to her being a prodigy, Shori vehemently denies this. She was only on par with the power of a common soul until the fateful day she was forced to undergo extreme trauma to develop her alter early. Upon the awakening of her alter, a deep and monstrous power swelled within her and continues to grow ceaselessly.


Sensing Reiryoku:

Expert-
Even before joining the Shinigami Academy, Shori was often good at finding people. Due to her natural skill she was often sent out into the Rukongai to locate her relatives, and bring them back to their respective homes. This often proved difficult for most due to the Hoshi family’s unique trait of switching personalities and reiatsu signature; Shori however had little issue with finding them. As her career as a Shinigami progressed, so did her aptitude for sensing reiryoku. She began to easily ascertain whether a reiatsu signature was that of a Shinigami, Hollow, or Quincy. She learned to pinpoint the exact location of even the weakest of reiatsu signatures from at most a mile away. Meanwhile she could determine the general area a signature was originating from for up to five miles.

Reiryoku Control:
Shori
Great Control-
While a natural at commanding her own energy, she soon found that her talent needed some fine tuning. Despite her large well of power, Shori constantly burned herself out on things such as casting a kido or even performing a single technique of her shikai due to expelling too much of her energy. She wasn't even able to enhance her speed or strength with her reiryoku, due to her expending too much of her energy. Through long hours of training every day she learned to utilize her power in a way that allowed her to pull off even difficult kido spells or multiple techniques without depleting her reserves to the point of exhausting her. Due to a greater control of her reiryoku, tapping into their collective well of spiritual power to enhance her abilities, or even rapid firing of kido takes less of a toll on her than it does Signy. While Shori doesn’t often feel a physical toll from using their power, it can leave her feeling a faint nagging sense of mental exhaustion and anxiety.

Signy
Average Control-
Signy only ever applied herself when learning to control her reiryoku to the point that she’d be able to control it with minimal concentration. However, with little interest in Kidō, it never bothered her that she’d have to chant the entirety of the incantation to succeed in a cast because she’d only use them on rare occasions. What did interest her though was the notion of channeling her reiryoku to enhance both her speed and strength to make herself a more physically formidable foe. Many view her as a lesser opponent due to her weak usage of kido but the moment they take a punch from her, they crumple like paper. Learning to wield such a large well of spiritual power in such a way, only to enhance her physical attributes, was all she ever devoted her time to. Because her lack of greater control results in her requiring outside aid when it comes to suppressing her reiryoku, she often forgoes doing so. However, tapping into the power leaves Signy feeling fatigued and thoroughly mentally drained, often causing her to fully relinquish control of the body to recuperate.

Expert-
Two personalities inhabiting one body would surely intrigue anyone who hadn’t witnessed it before, but each having their own reiatsu signature would leave anyone perplexed. Constantly suppressing her spiritual pressure, Shori puts her concern for the many over her desire to intimidate the few. However, when she deems someone as worthy of being intimidated, it is said that the crushing force of her power leaves those around feeling as if they had been buried under the rubble of a collapsed building.
Unable, or quite possibly just unwilling, to suppress her spiritual pressure, Signy is the easier of the two to track down. Craving the thrill of torturing others, Signy exposes anyone and everyone she can to her reiatsu. Those who have walked away from the experience recount it as if their worst nightmares gripped their very soul.

Upon releasing her reiatsu, a crushing feeling spreads in the chest of those affected. If exposed for too long and if the person were weak enough, their bones will begin to snap. Those subjected to this, will leave the experience feeling as if they’d been buried under the rubble of a collapsed building.
Fear-
A shiver down the spine. That painful, deep pit in one’s stomach when something unnerving occurs. A sudden shortness of breath. Often manifesting when Signy is in control of the body, her reiatsu instills not only fear but a deep seated dread in those exposed to it. On the rare occasions that the fear overpowers the damage when Shori is in control, one may be left perturbed by the experience due to her calm and collected demeanor. However, the dread plays along perfectly with Signy’s cruel and sadistic desires.

Zanjutsu Level:
Master Swordsman-
Born to a mother who was a master swordsman among the Shinigami of her era, Shori has trained every day since the day she could hold a sword to follow in her mother’s footsteps. When she wasn’t working on her usual studies, instead of spending time with others her age she would train with her mother. Upon entering Shin'ō Academy, Shori had already surpassed many of her classmates at swordsmanship. Showcasing such an immense level of skill with a katana at such a young age could only be rewarded with the label of Expert. However, upon awakening her Zanpakuto, Shori grew frustrated. She had dedicated so much of her life training in the different styles used with the katana. Any other prodigies would be downtrodden and deterred by a Zanpakuto that refused to slumber and therefore remained in its true form as a double-sided axe. Some may even view that as a burden but Shori was understanding. Though frustrated by the different skill set needed to wield an axe, Shori was still driven and threw herself into her training even more, and so she studied the way of the axe.


Having a dual sided axe as a zanpakuto is different from most who use a sword in general. Upon achieving her shikai she had to research on how to fight with an axe. Having come across western and eastern styles of axe fighting she decided to try and combine the two, before creating some of her own, that would be unique to her own.

While in close quarters Shori will hook a blocking blade on the underside of her axe before pulling and twisting it from her opponents hands, before amputating their hands, once fully disarmed she’ll aim to slice her opponent’s head off.

Given the playful nature of Shori, she often likes to move with the swinging motions of her opponent. Upon contact with Shori’s axe she’ll hook the weapon being used and spin it around, redirecting it towards the ground; while still hooked she’ll slide her blade down making contact with the ground, before activating Sabishi, to come out from below and melt through the opponent’s body.

Hohō Level:
Shunpo Expert-
Growing up, Shori was constantly training, even when she didn’t want to be. Her mother refused to take no for an answer. It was during these training sessions that her mother, a Shinigami in her own right, taught her the basic footwork needed for the Shunpo technique. Driven by her natural desire to learn and grow, Shori would practice the footwork each night in her room. Eventually she developed an amateur Shunpo before even entering the Academy. While using her home taught footwork, she was easily faster than the novices in her class, however, whenever she would be forced to use the proper footwork, she struggled. Her muscle memory would kick into full effect and the instructors would constantly have to correct her. Due to her unrefined method, she couldn’t be too fast and was unable to utilize some of the more intricate techniques. Despite still struggling with this to this day, Shori has been undergoing training under the Captain of the Seventh Division, who has enforced the proper footwork. This has led to her speed with Shunpo increasing in leaps and bounds.

Hakuda Level:
Expert Hakuda Combatant-
While Shori doesn’t often fight hand-to-hand, she recognizes its importance and thus made sure to train when she could fit it into her already extensive training schedule. Thankfully due to constant training during her time in the academy and a deep-seated passion for hakuda, she easily surpassed her classmates, and often bested them in sparring. Though Shori does not appear muscular, she possesses a strength that many wouldn't suspect. She easily uses her looks to deceive others into underestimating her only to beat them within an inch of their life thanks to the strength she’s acquired through training since a young age. She quickly earned the level of expert through her use of a mix of martial arts and less disciplined forms of fighting, but due to her concern of harming others her progression to mastering the art of hand-to-hand had ground to a screeching halt. She often abstains from hand-to-hand combat, preferring to utilize her zanpakuto instead, but will partake in it from time to time during her duties as a part of the Seventh Division, especially because sometimes there just isn’t enough room to swing around a double-sided axe.

Often neglecting Kido training in favor of Hakuda and zanjutsu, Shori could only be described as average in the field of Kido during her time at the academy. Upon leaving the academy, she could manage to perform simple spells perfectly but any time she attempted more difficult ones they would either sputter out or just simply go awry. After some light prodding, or more so insistent nagging by her teachers, Shori finally stuck her nose to the grindstone when it came to training her use of Kido. However to her dismay, she didn’t seem to be progressing at a satisfactory rate. It wasn’t until she learned to better control her reiryoku that she discovered a new found ease and passion for learning Kido. She took notice of the fact that the more difficult spells started to come more naturally for her and the issues, such as the spell dying out too soon, she faced prior were no longer present. While she may not be at the level she would like to be at, she still makes time train daily.

Namanari (生成 "Half-Demon"):
The soul society is filled with mysteries and secrets alike. One such secret is among the Hoshi family. The Namanari still remains a mystery, most of the elders speculate that it is a curse. They are unsure of when it happened but records and tales have been destroyed. What is known about the Namanari, plants a seed of a split personality, from birth. As the years progress for the Child the split personality develops. It's unknown how it takes on the personality, as it does not follow a pattern. At first it was believed that it comes off the needs of the host, where the clan member could be shown as weak willed it would come out as one as stubborn as an ox. However, it had been proven wrong several times in the past. As Namanari, sometimes takes the traits of the Clan member and amplifies it. The effects don’t stop at a personality change, as it changes the reiatsu signature to one that’s completely different. The clan members may also go under physical changes, as their eyes colour changes from one to another, hair has also been known to change as well.

While it can be considered odd for a trickster to contain a sun goddess, it does fit with Signy more than Shori. Signy had more contact with the Asauchi, resulting in the sun goddess form taking place. Amaterasu has a belief that trial by fire is the only way to train. Oftentimes she drags either of the personalities that aren’t in control to fight rather than train. Her nature as a sun goddess manifests itself in the form of magma and lava. Her lust for battle consumes her and the only thing that seems to stop her is the searing heat of magma.

Inner World:

The inner world is an inner chamber of a volcano with a large obsidian spire illuminated by the magma below it. Despite there being magma mere feet below the ground, the chamber always feels frigid. It seems, upon entering her zanpakuto’s world, she is greeted by a large open space. Although it may appear flawless at first glance, if one were to look closely they could see the imperfections that lay there, cracks forming through the ground, or patched holes from past battles.

Shikai:
Shikai Special Ability:
Amaterasu harnesses the ability to control and generate lava. While in it’s shikai state, anything the right blade, which is indicated by the ruby gemstone, of the axe comes into contact with becomes consumed by lava which the left blade, indicated by the sapphire gemstone, can then be used to flash dry and harden into obsidian and ash. Due to the lava being a construct of her zanpakuto’s creation, Shori is granted immunity from the hellish heat it produces, making it possible for her to even swim in the molten sea if she so pleased.

Bankai: Amaterasu-Ōmikami (天照大御神, 天照大神 : “Great Divinity Illuminating Heaven”)

Bankai Special Ability:
Unleashing her full destructive power, Amaterasu-Ōmikami gains the ability to manifest a 33 meter, 108.27 feet, tall, lava and obsidian avatar that is controlled whichever soul isn’t in control of Signy’s body as the two souls are balanced and working in harmony, allowing Signy to still utilize her zanpakuto. The avatar retains the ability to create more and manipulate lava and obsidian. Toxic gasses, like those of the volcanoes from which her nature is born, waft off of the avatar passively through fine fissures in the obsidian. As the fumes gather into a growing cloud that hinders anyone within its ability to see and breathe, Signy can concentrate them around herself and focus them into blasts of toxic gas. With each step the avatar takes, lava spreads and eats away at the ground beneath it, fueling its power.

Personal Relationships:

Hotaru Hoshi
The matriarch of the Hoshi family and mother to Shori, Oyama, and their 6 siblings, Hotaru was a well-respected woman and Shinigami. Though Hotaru was thought highly of both inside and outside the family, Shori was always closer with her father, resenting how her mother always pushed her into training and even feeling to an extent that her mother was bullying her. Seeing a dormant power within Shori that she never saw herself, Hotaru only pushed her so hard in the hopes of helping her tap into that power, but inevitably drove a deep divide between her and her daughter. Hotaru being an instructor of Zanjutsu for the Academy and a member of the Third Division was rarely called upon for things outside the realm of academics. Even after birthing her children, she remained an active instructor and soldier, being the role model of a powerful woman who could easily handle juggling both family and career for her daughters. Upon learning that her mother, and matriarch of her contentious bloodline, had supposedly suffered fatal injuries while instructing a training exercise in the World of the Living, Shori was confused. As a student in the Academy and child of the now deceased Hotaru, Shori was more than aware that her mother hadn’t left the Soul Society in over a century, but she was expected to believe that the first time she did in a long time, she died? Her mother’s peculiar passing, and the intense paranoia of her own illnesses lead Shori down the deep and quite frankly overwhelming rabbit hole of conspiracies.

Kazumi Fujioka

Friends since childhood, Signy and Kazumi bonded over their deep love of music and can often be found playing music together. Having known Signy since she was young, Kazumi is one of the few souls outside of the Hoshi family that is aware of the dueling personalities housed within Signy’s body. When Oyama was just a baby, Kazumi would help Signy lull her to sleep with a duet.


Atsuko Ise

Though mildly put off by Atsuko, Shori was willing to hear Atsuko out when she recruited her for the Seventh Division. Shori only holds Atsuko in high enough regard to include her as someone with whom she has some form of a relationship purely because she was the person who recruited her.

Yasu Yugure

Both Shori and Signy are fond of Captain Yugure. Their relationship began as that of a candy maker and a candy enthusiast. The Hoshi heir was nothing more than someone providing a good, but over the past hundred years a friendship blossomed. Signy often showers Yasu in gifts of mass amounts of candy and makes sure to have a small pouch of candy on her person at all times so that if she were to run into a member of 9th division, she can then give them the candy to deliver to their captain.

Biography: One windy June night, the head of the Hoshi family and her husband expected to welcome a son into their family, but fate had other plans. The son her father had planned to name Sigurd, after a legendary hero from his culture from his time as human. Instead, they were cursed with a daughter whom the mother insisted on naming Shōri, but her father still wished to name her Signy. So they decided to compromise and bestow a middle name upon her, something the Japanese didn’t do but the Europeans did. In her father’s eyes she would still be Signy, and as she grew up she used Signy over Shōri due to her strong connection to her father and her love of the culture her father taught her since her birth.

Growing up, only greatness and perfection were expected from her, but she constantly fell short in her parents’ eyes, or so she thought, and due to this she formed a penchant for cruelty both towards others and herself. Her parents watched in dismay as she grew more volatile with age, especially after her younger siblings started to be born.

They would often notice in the rare peaceful moments that Signy had a habit of staring at her own reflection, something her mother believed innocent but that her father knew was the beginning of something more to come. The Hoshi family harbored a horrid secret, every member at some point in their lives would develop a split personality. Fearing her fronting personality would only grow worse with time, her father took drastic measures, forcing the split earlier than natural.

Mere days before her 70th birthday as she gazed upon her reflection in the family koi pond, her father pushed her in. Before she could react, she’d sunk to the bottom and hit her head on a rock. When she awoke, her hair had turned deep blue from its natural blonde and her eyes purple from their golden brilliance. She was bedridden for about a week but in that time she’d stopped responding to her name and started insisting on going by her japanese name, Shori. The once erratic and cruel young woman became calm and reserved, but any time she passed a mirror she would wail like a banshee and run away. Soon after, her parents removed all the mirrors in their home.

A month before the birth of her baby sister, Oyama, Shori began to have nightmares. Each night, she stood in a barren land with black skies, and lightning surrounding her. As she would start to take a step, a voice would fill the space, a young woman’s voice. On the third night of this recurring nightmare, Shori found a figure standing across from her as ash rained from the sky. Signy cried out at her that she was nothing more than an imposter in a stolen body, but Shori heard none of it as the ground collapsed and she plummeted into the abyss.

After two weeks of the nightmare, Shori awoke to find strange markings painted on her wall and a mirror mounted beside them. As she gazed into the mirror, the blonde-haired, golden-eyed phantom stared back. Shaken, she threw a sheet over the mirror. A couple weeks later, Oyama was born, Shori had taken in an injured soul, the nightmares were gone, and the house was peaceful once more.

Naturally nurturing, she was determined to nurse the injured Elk back to health, but when he unexpectedly awoke one day to baby Oyama’s crying, he startled her causing her to panic and punch him square in the face. From that day on, she stuck to him like glue and any time he tried to run away she’d find him and drag him back, insisting that he would be safer at the Hoshi household.

For years the family thought everything alright. Shori and Elk had begun dating and everyone even suspected that the family’s curse of split personality had skipped Oyama. However, sometimes late at night, if the sheet had slipped just a bit, revealing the smallest sliver of the silver beneath, Shori would hear Signy whispering to her from the mirror. She endured the whispers until one night she couldn’t endure any more and ripped the sheet off the mirror. The next thing she remembered she was waist deep in the koi pond, holding a sleeping Oyama, their father wild eyed and holding a mirror out in front of her. The next day, the mirror in her room had been removed.

As years went by, the thought of that night nagged at Shori, so she sought out answers in her own way. When their father retired to his room, she snuck into the storage room and sat in front of the mirror. Before uncovering it, she’d scribbled out a note, asking why she’d tried to drown Oyama. When she awoke again, later that night, Signy responded with, “She mustn’t suffer as I have.”

After that day, Shori replaced the mirror in her room, so that while she spends her days ruminating over Signy’s cryptic message, the nights can belong to Signy. Haunting piano music drifts down the halls of the Hoshi home every night, something only her parents would recognize as Signy’s doing. Every note is a cry for help and tinged with the loneliness she feels every day, locked away in her own body. Each lilting requiem is an acknowledgement of her fractured mind. Every morning, a little more is added to a large mural Signy has taken upon herself to paint on the far wall of the bedroom that Shori shares with her husband, Elk. When she feels lonely, Shori spends time staring at the slowly finishing mural, unsure of what it’ll mean when it’s done, but knowing that it’s a reminder that she’s not alone.
