Character Name: Musou Kyōraku
Musou Kyōraku (夢想京楽家) is theLieutenant of the 8th Division, and a member of the famed Kyōraku family. This infamous swordsman has furthered the renown of his surname due to his mastery of the Sword Arts, his genius-level intellect and natural leadership ability. He is an astute tactician and elite craftsman. Very few in the Seireitei would dare question his honor, or meet the man in an exchange of blades. His outwardly lackadaisical appearance and nonchalant attitude act as a facade, concealing the nightmare within.

Notable Features
Part 1: Prior to the imprisonment of the Captain Commander Musou’s appearance is perhaps as normal as they come. The somewhat fair-skinned man is most distinguishable by his long locks of brown hair, in which he wears fashioned in a ponytail secured by a red hair tie. He keeps his face bare and smooth, never prone to blemishes or breakouts. His eyebrows are hairier than your average and rest on a normally-proportioned brow. His dampening glare peers in a sharp olive, his eyes often low and exhausted. Between his teeth he always keeps.. something. A stick of straw, a toothpick, a cigar. If one takes notice of Musou and he has nothing between his lips or teeth, they should be worried.
100 Years Later: Musou is not a man of change. No—in fact—-he is a man of consistency, normality, and pattern. As such, his appearance mimics his ideals. His hair style has remained consistent over the past century and beyond, his long spiky ponytail a trademark of his person. He looks a bit more ragged, however, there is a scruffy five o clock shadow along his entire lower face supporting a moderate goatee. A bit of his age is beginning to show; long, droopy bags beneath his eyes from having them closed entirely too much. Often stated, his perfectly chiseled face is sculpted sharply, showing all of his features without hesitation. This makes his expressions, however rare, so animated and profound. He rarely smiles but should he so choose he would reveal a set of pearly whites, sharp incisors that bite his lip and grind against their opposites while he sleeps. For the most part, his Shinigami uniform is pretty standard, excluding a singular accessory. A large hooded cape, brown as burlap and hardly ever separated from his person. His appearance is one to be expected by a member of his family, down to the hair growth throughout his entire body that he can hardly control.

Personality
Musou’s personality consists of four entities that make up all that he is.
The Sloth Very few would argue Musou’s laziness against another, and that same few must not know him very well if at all. Laziness as a trait or idea for most is the lack of drive to simply do. For Mu—however—it is the lack of drive to remain conscious in its entirety. If it were up to Musou, he would never wake, living his days in the seamless land of dreams and unconscious freedom. Free from the burden of responsibilities, the voices of those that drive him insane, and the inevitability of committing senseless acts of violence. Musou often refers to himself as a “talented” dreamer. He dreams lucidly, using his sleep to manifest his wildest fantasies. Each hour he spends unconscious feels like a month of vacation. To him, it is an entirely different world, a different life. He sometimes even acts carelessly, confusing this world for the fabricated one in which he’s come to love. A small collection of his subordinates view him as a madman, having listened to Mu ramble about how this world is the nightmare, the hell, and only when we sleep can we see the world in which we deserve. When his sleep is interrupted, he becomes uncharacteristically violent. He is an unrealistically heavy sleeper, so it is a difficult feat to accomplish, however in the past he has been woken up on purpose in order to motivate him to deal with a specific threat. Poke the bear at your own risk.
The Strategist Whether it be Mahjong, Go, or Shoji, Musou is a master of all things strategy—both on a board and off. His mind and intricate steel trap with many layers, he is often praised for his genius-level intellect. His mind is not that of a scientist, but of a master of the world. Its inhabitants, their antics, their actions, their patterns. Every living thing contributes to a pattern, a pattern in which he dedicates every waking moment to memorize and understand. He is knowledgeable in all things within his realm of understanding. From the humans and how they differ, to the intricacies of the different worlds between hollow-like and even Quincy. Every Knick and cranny of Soul Society has drawn his interest, able to continuously access a trench of information to support his many theories, plans and strategies. He is seen as a guiding hand, both on and off the field of battle, that is if you can generate enough interest from him to pull him from his rather lackadaisical ways. Most of the words he speaks have a “matter-of-fact” cadence, an unintentional know it all; an arrogant—and rightfully so—mind.
The Warrior When it comes to battle, both act and principle—warfare as a whole—there are few capable of partaking in the art such as him. He is a muse, able to create scenes both beautiful and deadly as if second nature. There is little effort needed by him to initiate killing actions, or to hide any and all emotions way from being exactly what he is: A soldier. His rank, if anything, is an indication of his success in his field. Many even would offer him for Captain consideration, a path he knows he’s not quite yet ready to walk upon. His stature as a warrior far surpasses the physical acts, and transcends to his very being. His natural leadership and rapport with any and all of his peers. He is bound by duty, honor, and seeks out death as every warrior does, on the battlefield.
The Idealist Musou knows to remain quiet, his views and ideas capable of offending most around him. He is a man who harbors no lasting negative feelings, and finds himself incapable of doing so. He does not hate, he does not seek vengeance, he does not have unrelenting fury. He does not resort to anger or even extreme levels of passion. He does not despair, or doubt. To most, this simply looks like a nonchalant man on the surface, but in truth it stretches far beyond that. He believes in the balance of all things and beings in existence. There is no action to have taken place that was not meant to be. He loves his job, he loves to be a shinigami, but does not like it very much. It is in his blood, to be a part of his family and forsake his gifts that could help extend a legacy is blasphemous. His job involves one of the things he dislikes most: Killing. A talent of his, yes, but one it never pleases him to make use of. If possible, no matter the threat or imminent danger, Musou will attempt to talk any enemy out of violence. This is not for his sake, however, but for theirs. He knows the moment the violence commences, it cannot stop, and he will undoubtedly end the life of whom or whatever has crossed his path. It is to the point where Musou has apologized to an arrancar taking his dying breaths, apologized to a Quincy while his blade rests in their spine. He takes no solace in ending lives, no matter if they are the lives of the enemy or not.
Reiryoku Level: Great Spiritual Power ❁ Reiryoku Control: Masterful Reiryoku Control
The true depths of Musou’s pool of reiryoku are, and have been for centuries, truly speculative. It is hard to gauge its quantity in the face of its burlap prison. The Shinigami’s Reiryoku, when left unbound, indiscriminately seeped through his pores, its effects when given an external shape were deemed dangerous for all those that would fall subject to it. The hooded cloak he fashioned for himself does not only conceal Musou’s presence, but stifles his reiryoku as a whole by an undisclosed amount. It is, however, significant enough to erase the formerly uncontrollable effects of his spiritual essence, and has since given him the ability to masterfully control, manipulate and appropriate his own Reiryoku. While it remains conceptive, Musou’s endurance has been often praised by his peers, his soul often refusing to tire. This directly correlates to his ability to use multiple High-Rank Kido Spells in succession without any form of exhaustion or fatigue, as well as maintain both his shikai and bankai for weeks at a time. As the philosophical and inquisitive individual he is, Musou’s research of any and all things regarding the soul and the near-possible infinite well of energy it could host only further contributed to his views and tactics on both expanding and controlling his own innate power.
The aspect of control was once a foreign concept to Musou, but has been perhaps a defining trait for him along with his skillset in the past few centuries. Musou’s Reiryoku and his ability to control it can only be compared to compartmentalizing. By limiting the amount of reiryoku he has at his disposal, he was able to find a much finer degree of control, piece by piece. With less to handle, his focus could not, and did not wane. What lies at his disposal could be considered a weapon in its own right; As shown in his own unique ability to directly infuse his Reiryoku into a plethora of Zanjutsu techniques increasing their lethality tenfold. Musou is capable of concealing his presence completely with the help of his accessory; Like a player putting pieces on a board, Musou also has the ability to expel his reiatsu and its signature into a multitude of decoy-like specters of his presence to overwhelm and confuse his opponent. He is a conjurer of refined, and condensed beams of reiryoku fashioned to his liking, capable even of combatting some Kido spells to a degree. The ability to mould his reiatsu into a multitude of shapes does not escape this list, often capable of manifesting ghoul-like nightmarish auras from his reiatsu alone.
Sensing Reiryoku: Expert Reiryoku Sensing ❁
Musou is capable of sensing and identifying malicious and friendly reiryoku signatures from great distances. As his masterful control contributes to his ability to both sense and dissect reiryoku and reiatsu alike, he is also a proficient user of Reiraku (霊絡, Spirit Coils; "Spirit Ribbons"). However, it is not his ability to actively locate any specific signature that truly exemplifies his sensory prowess; Instead there is a reflaxatory sense that works at its peak in close proximity. By focusing on what Musou refers to as the Ryuutsu (流通; Lit. “Circulation, Current, Pass-Through”) of someone’s reiryoku, he is capable of predicting the trajectory of one’s movements, gauging the magnitude of spiritual attacks, and identifying any ties to elemental nature based on the ebb and flow of the individual’s reiryoku. This differs from normally acute sensing ability, as Musou explains Ryuutsu to be more akin to the circulatory system, having a rhythm similar to that of a heartbeat. Even some of the most refined masters of concealing their reiryoku could erase their signature from Musou indefinitely, but within close proximity to said individual he would still be able to identify and ride their current. Similar to how fluctuations in your heartbeat are used to initiate a polygraph, Musou can also use one’s Ryuutsu to pinpoint a lie amongst the truth, or vice-versa. This ability unique to Musou does not operate how normal sensing does, and therefore lacks the capabilities to span large distances. In truth, Musou is only capable of these deductions within twenty feet of the individual(s).
Musou discovered this unique perception accidentally. On most days that do not require that he does very much, Musou sleeps eighteen hours of the day and sometimes more. Without knowing, after constant sleeping and lucid dreaming for five-hundred years give or take, the sloth was consistently entering a meditative state without his own knowledge. Often exploring random mazes in his finely-controlled dreams, he had no idea he was actually navigating the various channels and vents in which his reiryoku traveled within his vessel. Learning, mapping, and understanding this interior system within himself gave him the ability to both perceive and identify it within others.
Reiatsu: Master Reiatsu Exertion ❁ Reiatsu Type: Standard
Musou’s reiatsu has been described as an ungentle lullaby. A slow-flickering candlelight masked under the image of a sporadic magenta pyre. Whilst flame-like in appearance, it carries no semblance to fire or heat. Instead, it is like the foot of a titan, the fist of an invisible, monstrous foe. It bears down on his allies and enemies indiscriminately, and has been consciously limited in its exertion due to the magnitude of its effects. Musou had no choice but to gain a masterful degree of control over how much, how often, and how dangerously vile his Reiatsu would manifest. When focused, some describe it as a dream-like haze, as if the world was bathed in sangria moonlight. It is undeniably eerie, even conjuring a never ending overlap of whispers as it is released from Musou’s spirit. Like an ungodly snore, when Musou sleeps his degree of control over his Reiatsu decreases, causing it to often seap from his person and consume the area of his slumber entirely without his knowledge. This fact, among others, spurred the creation of the Yakke Kirumoufu (ヤッケ;着る毛布; Lit. “Hooded Blanket”), Musou’s most prized possession.
Reiatsu Effects: Terror, Exhaustion, Drowsiness ❁
Whilst Musou’s Reiatsu is fully capable of administering intense pressure onto its victims not unlike most Reiatsu emitters, its most prominent effect is unmistakable, and inescapable terror. Often described as the unsettling eyes of a demon, peering into your deepest and darkest fears and reservations, his spiritual pressure is extremely invasive, perverse, and sinister. To most, they will feel the weight of a million stares, or perhaps hear the whispers and wails of the tormented endlessly repeating throughout their brain. The process is enacted instantaneously, and soon after their fears are realized, they would feel as if their entire body is shutting down on them, their mind going blank until they swiftly, smoothly… sleep. His spiritual essence is able to knock the most resistant of shinigami unconscious, placing all who enter his domain into a catatonic slumber. While partaking in said slumber, the most grotesque and terrifying nightmares invade the minds of the affected, capable of damaging their minds and memory if they allow the fear to consume them wholly. It is this, among a plethora of other reasons, that Musou was aptly dubbed Akumu (悪夢; “The Nightmare”).
The effects of his Reiatsu were deemed uncommon; while it did not directly inflict pain, Musou was capable of altering the sleeping pattern and mental stability of the entirety of his division at a point. The creation and usage of the b]Yakke Kirumoufu[/b] was a necessity, capable of keeping said effects at bay and allowing him to remain within one hundred yards of a peer without terrifying them beyond repair. There is a single hall in the Fourth Division barracks littered with unintentional victims of Musou’s Reiatsu, condemned to a life of psychiatric insanity, their bodies drained from fear of sleeping, hoping to escape the explicit nightmares behind the veil of consciousness.
Reiatsu Color: Magenta ❁ Reiatsu Shape: Nightmare
Musou doesn’t often mold his reiatsu into a visible shape, but when he does it takes form as a nightmare-like ghoul. A hellish face flashes in shades of magenta, indigo and black, fluctuating and wavering as if it is trying to decide to be real or just a figment of the viewer’s fear. It taunts, laughs, and smiles vindictively.
Musou’s personality consists of four entities that make up all that he is.

Zanjutsu Level: Master of the Sword ❁
Zanjutsu (斬術, Swordsmanship; Viz "Art of the Sword")
How it must feel; to have limbs that span several feet beyond normality--to have fingers bathed in bladed steel. The life of one who has assimilated the sword into their being, making the weapons extensions of themselves, no less than a foot or hand, a leg or arm. This has been Musou’s reality since inception, since the introduction to this cruel world in which he is bound to by family, duty, and honor. It is not uncommon for those of nobility to partake in private Zanjutsu lessons from a child, but it is, however, abnormal for there to be no singular teacher or master capable of introducing anything to the young swordsman that he has yet to discover on his own. Often besting his instructors in single combat; disarming, injuring, and even incapacitating a few with a simple Bokken (木剣;Lit. Wood-Sword). It became increasingly apparent that this was not a skill, or an infatuation with something he enjoyed. It was an art ingrained into his soul, a plethora of techniques, maneuvers, and stances tattooed to his spirit. A fatal dance, in which every possible step was memorized, repeated and then expounded upon by Musou.
Every strike, swipe, attempt or slash is inconceivably perfect. A scientist opting to study Musou in action would find that every angle he approaches is without flaw, down to the most meticulous details. Souls are creatures of habit, bound to repetition, slaves to rhythm and cadence. Musou does not consider himself a killer by nature, and limits how much he taints his blade(s) with flesh, but thoroughly enjoys training and practice. The amount of times he has simulated each variable of a swing has ranged through the hundreds of millions, until it becomes easier than breathing, walking, talking. The amount of time he has contributed to honing, mastering, understanding, and becoming a literal equal to the sword itself is perhaps double, if not triple of anyone in his same range of age. This is solely due to his tendency to actively continue his training even when sleep. Whilst unconscious, Musou’s body does not sleep. His mind rests, but he lucidly permits himself to continue all physical acts he deems beneficial to himself, and this is almost entirely exclusive to both fighting and training. Where there are perhaps only ten to fourteen hours in a day available for hard work and dedication for others, Musou has access to the full twenty-four in order to make himself the perfect weapon.
When he untapped his spiritual power and bonded his soul to an Asauchi Musou’s elite swordsmanship only expanded. His zanpakuto takes shape of not only just a singular Katana (カタナ), but a secondary Kodachi (小太刀) as well. Everything he had mastered up to that point had to be altered, distended and made doubly effective. When Ten’i Muhou is released, it forces Musou to delve deeper into the mastery of weapons even further, playing host to a weapon unique to him. Two Khopesh-like weapons with straight, dagger-reminiscent protrusions exuding from the tsubaless hilt; between them, a spectral chain extends infinitely. The combination of attacks he has mastered and is boundlessly capable of performing consists of quick, spinning movements that involve using the chain as a medium. He is capable of complete offense, defense, and strategies of detainment when utilizing his weapons to their fullest potential.
While it has been historically prevalent that a master swordsman wielding a singular blade with both hands is exceedingly more powerful than any other stance or option, Musou exists as perhaps the only exception to this. Musou soon discovered after unveiling his zanpakuto that where others were more powerful and focused with a singular blade, his strength, power, and fluidity in sword combat only doubled. He was perfectly capable of keeping the appropriate balance, poise, and grip with both blades simultaneously. Some have described fighting Musou with both of his blades as “fighting two of him”, saying that each arm and sword is more than capable of dealing with multiple enemies on their own. Musou, albeit never caring to prove this to be true or false, deems himself the most powerful user of Niten Ichi-Ryū (二天一流; Lit. “Two Heavens As One” or “Two-Sword Style”). It is for this very reason he consistently handicaps himself. As the centuries have passed, there are many that have no idea his zanpakuto manifests in the form of a second blade as well. It is almost never seen out of its scabbard, and only a truly worthy opponent will allow Musou to feel comfortable drawing it. This is not due to overconfidence, or a lack of humility--but rather, his empathy for those he faces. To him it feels like a crime of war to approach an enemy with such unrelenting force that arises when using both forms of his zanpakuto.
Even outside of specific weaponry, anything in Musou’s hands could be considered as a destructive weapon. From a blade of grass, to a small toothpick. Even blunt objects find ways to leave gashes and pierce his enemies once he wields them. His sense of honor, and his ability to make nearly anything a sharp sword granted him the moniker of Shinken (真剣; “The True Blade”).

Hohō Level: Shunpo Expert ❁
Hohō (歩法, Step Method; Viz "Fast Movement")
He has his Noble education to thank for the foundation and roots of ingraining Shunpo into him, but it is own practice that has given him the ability to vastly succeed and improve as time progressed. While he cannot contend with masters in a foot race, his natural agility further contributes to his Shunpo efficiency. Capable of getting from point A to point B rather effortlessly across considerable distances, Musou’s skill in shunpo is nothing to be overlooked. This, however, is eclipsed by his own reflexes. Individuals often confuse the correlation between one’s foot speed and their ability to have acute and accelerated perception and bodily response; Musou is a prime example. Often utilizing his reiatsu in consistent and small bursts when dancing around his opponent which gives a distorted look to his movements. Through utilizing his zanpakuto, enemies and comrades alike often believe that Musou is capable of producing speed clones or after-images, and possibly even utilizing high-level techniques such as Utsusemi. His deception is his strongest weapon, able to allow others to perceive him at heights and strengths far greater than he himself is capable of.

Hakuda (白打, White Hits; Viz "Hand-to-Hand Combat") .
Musou is completely, utterly, and unmistakenly inept when it comes to any and all things concerning hand-to-hand combat. If ever forced to fight anyone without a weapon, or at the very least something he can turn into a weapon, the likelihood of his death increases tenfold. When within the range of those even remotely talented in Hakuda with only his hands to defend himself he may as well be considered a corpse, that is not considering his aptitude in Kido. Throughout the years Musou has always viewed Hakuda and its users as rather brutish, incapable of understanding the art of swordsmanship and its superiority. His nose was always turned up towards the martial art, choosing to excel in other areas so profoundly that his ineptitude was completely ignored when graduating from the academy, and traversing the ranks of the Gotei 13. It is never too late to pick up a skill, yet Musou has made it painstakingly clear that he will never have an interest in becoming anything more than he already is when it comes to Hakuda.

Kido Skill Level: Kido Master ❁
Kidō (鬼道, Demon/Spirit Way; Viz "Demon Arts")
When Musou was not slaving away his days and nights honing his skills and zanjutsu, his intellectual mind was consumed with the Soul and its intricacies. Contrary to popular belief Musou was never a member of the Kido Corps, and has never stepped a single foot into the Fifth Division barracks, but his love and understanding for the Demon Arts far surpasses a majority of Gobantai’s population. An avid reader, a purveyor of all things revolving around the spiritual arts, it was his own interest that drew him into the world of spellcrafting. The way that words held power, incantations like Haiku in themselves, able to manifest Reiatsu in the most unique forms through distinctive focus. How could he not appreciate such a poetic form of expounding the soul. His mastery and understanding of incantations allows him to manipulate them in a plethora of ways. This could mean forsaking them through the usage of Eishōhaki (詠唱破棄; Lit. “Incantation Abandonment”), combining them through Nijū Eishō (二重詠唱; Lit. “Twofold Incantation”), or even delaying them with Kōjutsu Eishō (後述詠唱; Lit. “Spoken-After Incantation”). Musou’s passion was not unshared, however, clicking in his early academy years with the somewhat of an outcast Tenzen Oda. The two, both of noble blood, honed their Kido spells against one another, iron sharpening iron. Exchanging intricate theories and thoughts and exploring their interests with the art together. Their bond wasn’t the only thing that grew during those years, the two of them becoming masterful in both Bakudō (縛道; Lit. “Way of Binding”) and Hadō (破道; Lit. "Way of Destruction") to a point that far superseded the pace of their teachings. The two of them would proceed to dissect the creation of a Kido spell itself, allowing them to create Kido Spells of their very own, a feat not many can accomplish.
Musou is not against using a multitude of spells at a time, in rapid succession, with or without incantation. He often mixes and matches different forms of incantation manipulation to completely overwhelm and confuse his opponent. Musou aspired to learn Kido Displacement, but never could grasp the concept, always attributing it to Tenzen’s enlightenment and his ability to perceive the world’s balance in a way that he’d never be capable of himself. On his journey to contend with his rival, however, he mastered the ability of using Kido with his zanpakuto’ as a medium. This allows Musou to release destructive and binding spells through his blade’s tip or edge; When properly timed, the combinations could be endless. Musou is not against enhancing one of his many slashes or stabs with the full force of a High-Level Hado spell, or detaining someone with a bakudo spell the moment his blade breaches their skin. While many Kido masters opt to use kido as an alternative to their zanpakuto, or even their zanjutsu. Musou stands out amongst them, choosing instead to use all of his capabilities in tandem for the most optimal outcome. The confusion his zanpakuto abilities generate combined with his mastery and kido, layered finely with his Zanjutsu prowess create a deadly combination that very few can contend with. While he often decides against their usage, Musou also discovered the ability to perform a few forbidden spells during his extensive research and training. If you ask him, this is strictly for educational purposes.

Musou’s mastery extends to all numbered spells as well as some unnumbered or unclassified spells such as Sentan Hakuja. His most commonly used spells include, Zangerin and Sekienton.

Skills and Abilities:
Master Tactician & Genius Intellect ❁ Musou’s mind is a steel trap, an endless well of information and scenarios that allow him to appropriately gauge almost any situation and offer the most optimal and beneficial outcome. In a span of seconds, he is able to comb through and deduce seas of variables and components to a given situation in order to find a solution. A Master of all games that mimic the art of war, this skill translates directly to warfare itself. Like pieces on a board, Musou coordinates the actions of troops and subordinates during times of battle, capable of outwitting opponents of any caliber, and winning when the odds are heavily against him and his constituents. The man consistently sharpens his mind, through literature, and through strategy games against any who would play. Despite his Division’s duties, Musou is often sought out to assist from afar in endeavors that take place in the World of the Living and Hueco Mundo. His intellect is coveted throughout the Seiretei, a philosopher unlike any other. Each day is encapsulated by a spiel on his view of spiritual events and theories. His knowledge of every race that encompasses the multiple dimensions is extensive, understanding the scientific and spiritual details of Arrancar, Quincy and Fullbringers alike. His knowledge extends to Kido, as Musou is knowledgeable in any and all spells when used at a multitude of different levels. This allows him to effectively develop countermeasures to a plethora of spells, while also making him a rather effective instructor. These things, coupled with his mastery in Zanjutsu are what motivated many to refer to him as Heihousha (兵法者; “Master Swordsman & Tactician")
Sentient Sleeper ❁ It is common knowledge that sleep is the most valuable resource to Musou, and he spends a majority of his life doing it. Perhaps a select few individuals close to Musou know that while he enters an unconscious state, he retains his sentience. He is perceptive, can manipulate his dreams to his liking, and his body becomes proactive whilst his mind rests. This allows Musou to train rigorously even when sleep, as while he is often mentally sleepy and exhausted, his physicality and spirituality hardly ever tire. Further contributing to this, Musou is extremely difficult to wake up from his slumber, and has even on occasion initiated and won full fights while in this unconscious state. Naturally, this means that abilities and spells that would render him unconscious more than likely do not reach the desired effect by the user.
Elite Craftsman ❁ Musou has the full capabilities of someone masterful in forging an assortment of tools and structures, but often elects not to based on the many other things he’d rather consume his time doing. However, what is most sought after is his rather schematic mind. While he cares not to do the actual crafting himself, he constantly draws up plans, schematics, blueprints and architectural spreads to relay his multitude of ideas to the members of his Division. Most of these come to him while he’s sleeping. With full control of his dreams he uses them as a playground of sorts, conjuring what he wants, testing out different things and breaching the limits of his imagination. By the time he awakes, Suiyo is already at the edge of his bed waiting for Musou to tell him what to make. While it is usually the Captain’s handiwork, do not be surprised to find out that it was Musou’s whimsical mind that constructed the foundation of the very tool you hold closest to your heart. Still, he remains fully in-tune with the soul, the bond between Shinigami and Zanpakuto, and how it functions. This makes him fully qualified to perform repairs on varying Zanpakuto, although he would much rather prefer to delegate.

Equipment: Gigai (義骸; Lit. “Faux Body”) - Yakke Kirumoufu (ヤッケ;着る毛布; Lit. “Hooded Blanket”) - Toge (刺; Lit. “Splinter”)
While Musou usually delegates the crafting to others in his division he may deem more capable, or even out of pure laziness, there was no reluctance when it came to creating the Yakke Kirumoufu. Not to be confused with his friend Shusuke Kiyoshi’s Mippei Fūdo (密閉フード; Lit. “Sealing Hood”), The Yakke’ does not hide anything away. Its purpose is not to mask, conceal, or erase Musou’s Reiatsu or Reiryoku. Instead, its effects are more direct, meant to quite literally seal and compartmentalize parts of his spiritual power away through the cloak itself which constantly absorbs any rampant spiritual energy that may escape his person. While its effects do not share the same level of intensity as the Erimaki Shisseki (襟巻き叱責, Lit. “Scarf of Rebuke; Scarf of Reprimand”), they accomplish their desired goal and meet a previously growing necessity. This allows the effect of Musou’s own reiatsu to remain under his control completely when wearing the cloak, which he always is. When he is stripped of his favorite accessory, His Spiritual Pressure lashes like an untamed demonic force, inflicting its terror indiscriminately on whoever is near. Without it, it would be impossible for the many Shinigami that he interacts with daily to perform their duties, as they would be forced into a coma-like slumber as long as his spiritual pressure invades their receptors. Musou constantly downplays his need for the cloak, insisting its sole purpose it to be sure that no matter where he is, he has a comfortable blanket to sleep with.
Even those that interact with Musou on a daily basis pay no attention to the small, wooden sticks he often fiddles between his lips and teeth. They give no indication that they could be something more outside of an accessory to a habit. The Nightmare has thousands of these constructed and stored for personal use, tucked in a small tin can in which you would keep incense or large matches. While insignificant in their appearance, it is their makeup that gives them relevance. Over a century ago the Head Lieutenant’s plants spanned the entirety of the Seireitei in different locations, her Shikai perhaps one of the most powerful in existence. Near 8th Division during these events, however, sprouted a single tree, entangled in a web of vines. Outsiders mistake Musou’s unperturbed and lackadaisical nature for ignorance or a simple-minded persona; The truth is there is never a moment where his mind rests, and he is annoyingly inquisitive. He took it upon himself to take a sampling of the tree’s bark, and conduct research independently on the many properties of the Oki’s zanpakuto. The outcome was rather simple, the only qualities beneficial to him were Higenbana’s restorative properties. Because the zanpakuto is never sealed, its effects remain constant, far after said abilities have been used. As such, this bark still radiated with the healing properties of the many bulbs that hung from its branches. Using his ability to mend the spiritual essence of objects it was a simple feat to convert said bark into the Toge (刺; Lit. “Splinters”). Chewing on them when uninjured acts like nothing more than a vitamin supplement, promoting good health. However when injured, chewing the stick to completion enacts a restorative process of many small, non-fatal flesh wounds. The sticks can not remotely come close to the level of healing Higenbana is capable of, but they serve their purpose through mimicking its effects on a much smaller scale.
Signature Zanjutsu Techniques - Gyakku Kagamiken Series (逆鏡剣, Lit. "Reverse Mirror Sword")
Gyakku Kagamiken, Nibun (逆鏡剣二分, Lit. "Reverse Mirror Sword, Bisection”) ❁ The first of the zanjutsu techniques coined by Musou himself. Like almost everything involved in his fighting, the technique requires a masterful control of one’s reiryoku. The ability revolves around having what Musou describes as “The perfect slash”. This consists of a direct, perfectly horizontal one-hundred and eighty degree slash towards a given target. The user then moulds their reiryoku into their zanpakuto, just as Musou has mastered the ability to do with his own Kido, to release a condensed crescent-like wave of Reiatsu. This wave is incapable of causing physical damage to structures, or souls/humans. Instead, its main intention is to bisect oncoming reiatsu-based projectiles, by meeting said projectile with equal force exerted by Musou through the usage of the technique. Musou can also elect not to release the bisecting projectile, and instead wrap his zanpakuto in the given energy, making him capable of bisecting reiatsu/reishi-formed barriers, at the cost of erasing his blade’s ability to kill albeit momentarily.
Gyakku Kagamiken, Hansei (逆鏡剣反省, Lit. "Reverse Mirror Sword, Reflection”) ❁ The second technique in the series; Hansei can only be utilized through taking a sheathed weapon out of its scabbard to initiate this defensive maneuver. Similarly, following the same structure in terms of the technique’s foundation, Hansei requires the encapsulation of Musou’s reiryoku into the blade he chooses to defend with. When an oncoming projectile approaches, Musou can quickly unveil said blade from its sheath to reveal its “reflective” properties, capable of reflecting and redirecting smaller reiatsu-based projectiles. This Technique is doubly as effective and can be used easier against larger projectiles that are composed of light.
Gyakku Kagamiken, Mugen (逆鏡剣無限, Lit. "Reverse Mirror Sword, Infinity”) ❁ The Final technique in the Reverse Mirror Sword series only further contributes to Musou’s reputation of misdirection and confusion as an approach to fighting. Musou simply rotates his arm clockwise in a full circle, the blade in his hand remains erect until multiplicities of the blade’s image begin to manifest. This technique gives the impression that Musou is attacking them with one-thousand different blades, infinitely bombarding his opponent with no room to breathe or escape. Some have even gone far enough to assume that this ruse was the actual ability of his zanpakuto, and when the point comes up he often entertains it, allowing any and everyone to think what they desire; By the time the truth is realized, the enemy is already dead, or the ally or sparring partner is already defeated.
Signature/Custom Kido Techniques:
Mitsuori Hitei (Lit. “Threefold Negation”) ❁ Undoubtedly the most powerful sealing spell in musou’s arsenal, Yotsuori Hitei creates three rectangular prisms of auburn reiatsu that manifest over each other until it encapsulates the enemy in the third, center box. While it would possibly be assumed that the barriers get stronger as they get closer to the interior, the truth is they get more powerful as the box gets larger. The space between each box becomes a lasting purgatory, capable of nullifying the exertion of reiatsu of any kind, and disrupting the flow of reiryoku through the body completely. The parent Kido is Danku, each wall of each prism equivalent to a singular danku construct. Meaning each box has the combined strength of six individual danku walls.
“Cast aside free will, surrender yourself to sunbound shackles. Overcome distance, escape and become bound again. Eighteen Walls, Three Boxes, accept retribution as your final fate. Mitsuori Hitei.”
“Cast aside free will, surrender yourself to sunbound shackles. Overcome distance, escape and become bound again. Eighteen Walls, Three Boxes, accept retribution as your final fate. Mitsuori Hitei.”
Sekienton, Enhanced (Lit. “Red Smoke Escape, Enhanced”) ❁ This is an enhancement of Sekienton that does not formerly replace the parent spell. The user casts sekienton as they would normally, as the smoke begins to spread its color shifts from red to a fuschia-like color. Once the color has finished turning, the smoke begins to solidify into an expanding foam. The foam quickly spreads to bind anyone caught in its grasp before becoming completely solid, sealing his opponents in a quicklime-like solution.
Abataa (Lit. “Incarnation of an Immortal Being”) ❁ This Hado spell manifests a massive avatar of destruction with humanoid features. In the hands of each of its four limbs are large katana-like blades, each capable of striking with the destructive power of Hiryū Gekizoku Shinten Raihō. The Avatar is capable to swing each of its swords once, the trajectory and target of the strikes are willfully controlled by the caster, and cannot be altered once decided.
“Four swords, a single fight. Light and dark, battling for supremacy beneath a cascading moon. Boundless leaps through world unknown, bring forth a remnant of your sin, Abataa”
Zanpakuto Name: Ten’I Muhou (天衣無縫; Lit. “Heaven-Clad Null Shroud”)
Zanpakuto Appearance:
Ten’i Muhou manifests as two separate blades that share a singular spirit. The first blade is your normal Katana. The hilt is banded in a vibrant amethyst cloth and the golden tsuba takes the shape as what some have described to be an impression of an “atom”. Musou often clarifies that it actually represents a kaleidoscope, an infinite array of colors and spectrums, a multiplicity of skewed vision and perception. The second blade is nearly identical in every way, although takes the shape as a somewhat shorter Kodachi. The true defining factor between the two is that the Katana’s sheath is a wine color, while the Kodachi’s sheath is closer to a dark metallic blue.
Zanpakuto Spirit: Ten’i Muhou
Ten’I Muhou when first perceived gives the impression of some sort of ghost-like spirit. He does not speak often, frightening ceremonial masking resting beneath long locks of indigo hair. The spirit’s feet hardly ever touch the ground, hovering spirit-like as he interacts and attempts to torment Musou. Ten’I Muhou’s entire goal seems to be madness, poking at any insecurity or fear he can find within Musou at any given moment, conjuring dark images whilst they commune in his inner world to skew his perception of things that happened already or have yet to happen.
Musou’s true mastery of his zanpakuto came from understanding that The spirit itself was an existing facade, a mask, quite literally like the won he wore. Beneath the trickery, the images, the frightening appearance, lies a being not very much different than a mortal man. When the curtain is pulled back there is nothing to fear, nothing that is not within his degree of control. Ten’I Muhou hates that Musou reached this realization and as a result no longer fears the spirit. They are indeed a partnership, but musou constantly battles with the spirit to remind him who’s in control.
Musou’s inner world is a vast sanctum, no walls, no roof, just an endless crimson sky. The ground is a dark blue reflective surface that is perfectly smooth without a single blemish. In the world’s center is a large pagoda-like structure built by the skulls of an assortment of beasts and fiends. Massive mouths lie in between each pillar with large flat teeth. An eerie dark mist constantly hovers in the area and limits visibility. The inner world is said to be completely devoid of sound, this requires Musou to defeat his zanpakuto in combat and break its mask, in order to see its face and therefore read its lips. Without this, he will never understand or know what his zanpakuto is attempting to communicate to him.

“Meihakuna yokubō, Ten’i Muhou. . .”
(明白な欲望, 天衣無縫; “Manifest Desire, Heaven-Clad Null Shroud”)
Release Phrase: Ten’i Muhou’s release phrase is Manifest Desire, however, Mu has been known for releasing his blade alternatively with Bring Desire to Life, simply calling the Zanpakuto by its name, or without any release phrase at all.
Shikai: When released into Shikai, Ten’I Muhou takes the shape of two, large Khopesh-type weapons connected by a glowing, ethereal chain between them. This chain is an extension of Ten’i Muhou itself, and can therefore extend near-endlessly.
Shikai Special Ability:
Ten’i Muhou’s Shikai ability is known as Mabaroshi (幻; Lit. “Apparitions”). As the years have passed, Musou has not developed a knack for using his Shikai haphazardly. He is aware of his reputation and intends on delegating at least some form of thought and effort into its upkeep. Very few individuals actually know the true nature of his Zanpakuto, as he has made many perceive it to be something that it completely isn’t. When initially releasing, the sound of a bell tolling invades the ears of anyone within a one-hundred-yard radius. The sound of the bell, however, sounds distant, as if its source is nowhere near here. It fades like background noise, and those who are not extremely perceptive hardly acknowledge that they’ve heard it at all. The bell is a trigger, a switch, the surrendering of every one of his opponent’s senses excluding touch. Mabaroshi permits Musou to manifest illusions, mirages, and apparitions of his wildest dreams. There is no limit to how many illusions he can conjure, or just what he can create. What is exceedingly troublesome is the difficulty many have to separate reality from what has been fabricated. Each mirage maintains its perfect physical shape without distortion, even going as far as emitting the appropriate reiatsu that it would release if real. The smell, and the sounds, all of which translate to the fabrications, yet they cannot cause any physical harm. Neither can they alter or change the environment in any way. While every facet of these illusions exists, one cannot feel them.
While the scope of what he conjures is unlimited, Musou prefers to instill fears and a feeling of being unsettled into his enemies. He often calls upon many of the Yokai, bringing them forth in their startling and grotesque forms, bathing the battlefield in fear and anguish. It is for this reason alone that a small group granted him the name Kijutsushi (奇術師; “Conjurer of Dark Things”).

Bankai Special Ability
The bell tolls again, this time it echoes, sounding immediately loud as if it's ringing in your very brain, before fading into a lower octave with each additional echo. By the time it ends, Musou, and whoever is within a three-hundred-yard radius is unconscious, forced into a nightmare behind the veil of sleep. Externally, a glowing, magenta chain connects all the affected as they lay unconscious, bound to the soul. Their active consciousness is transferred into what Musou refers to as Yumekai ( Lit. "World of Dreams" ), which takes the form at default as Ten'I Muhou's inner world. This dream world is completely under Musou's control, and he is able to conjure any and everything that his wildest dreams can manifest. Unlike shikai, the conjurings of this dream world can and will hurt the enemy, and ultimately, kill. The qualities, that define normal dreams apply to Musou's bankai as well. What could feel like an eternity, spanning days, weeks, months, or even years inside Yumekai could only translate to seconds in the external world. Furthermore, like all dreams, it is impossible to remember its beginning, meaning those that witness Ten'i Muhou Bankai just as quickly forget and lose the knowledge that they are in a dream at all. Musou takes advantage of this, shifting the terrain of the dream world to match that in which they were previously fighting, creating the illusion that nothing had ever changed. It is impossible to break the sleep that the Bankai creates by disrupting the outside body.
Ten'i Muhou binds whomever is in its bankai activision radius by the soul, Allies and Enemies alike. If you die in the dream, you also die in the real world. Musou's bankai does not end until only one dreamer remains.

❁ Musou has secretly been conducting research on the Shattered Dimensions Event for well over two-hundred years. Like almost anything, it fascinates him, what begs even more questions is how there have been no solid leads, answers, or information that points to one singular cause. Musou is often amazed how no one is constantly on edge with the possibility that an event such as that could easily happen for a second time. As he looks around and assesses the personnel at their disposal, the Gotei 13 still hasn’t recovered.
❁ Musou wouldn’t dare to claim his estranged cousin, Nozamu. His ambition drove him to reach for Captaincy, a feat that Musou himself is constantly avoiding despite the constant pushes for promotion. The Kyoraku elders elected to give him Shunsui’s Cloak, undeservingly, just before he failed in his attempts to flee and perished. They have since become more reluctant to give out the family heirloom, and his cousin’s antics has made it increasingly difficult for Musou to be viewed as worthy. Still, it is a very personal goal to be offered the cloak as a blessing, and to bring honor to his family’s name.
❁ Musou drinks constantly in tandem with his Captain, but the man is incapable of getting drunk. Alcohol of any kind only further contributes to his never-ending urge to drift off into an endless sleep. He drinks as a courtesy, to feel included with those around him but never actually gains anything from its consumption.
Personal Relationships:
Suiyo Kusotare • The Drunk Captain; Musou is not one to leave things unsaid. He does not lack expression, and this is perhaps the first thing the impoverished Captain discovered about him. He was clear in his thoughts about the man. Decrepit, idotic, foolish, foul-smelling, and drunk. His tattered clothes bathed in the stench of liquor were an uncommon and ungodly visage to take in by a man raised in privilege. In the beginning, their interactions consisted of the man spewing nonsense, and Musou ignoring it. As his ears opened to the man, so too did his heart. Beneath slurring words and putrid breath is an ingenious mind, finely in-tune with the world around him. Things he seems to say on accident happen to apply perfectly to a given situation, making him an amazing mentor with valued advice. Furthermore, his combat prowess cannot be ignored; Musou considers the man an equal in the art of the sword, but will never go far enough to call him his superior. Not only because he thinks it untrue, but because he refuses to give the man the satisfaction. Musou appreciates Suiyo as a brother-in-arms, his guidance valued above anyone else’s. When he’s not sleep, it’s not unlikely for him and Musou to be somewhere neglecting the not-so-entertaining duties that plague them in the 8th Division. They wander the Seireitei as a duo, looking for trouble to spur, or maybe friends to spar.
Tenzen Oda • Musou’s Rival and perhaps closest friend. The two of them spent the bulk of their academy years together and bonded initially over their interest in Kido. However, that doesn’t scratch the surface of their friendship. Tenzen was not the most outspoken individual in his youth, and still isn’t at his current age, but the two of them have never had trouble communicating. Musou likes to believe he knows him the most, perhaps one of the only individuals alive that knows about his daughter’s existence, being her God-Father. The two of them share rather outlandish ordeals and morals that raise an eyebrow when perceived by an outsider, but they can always find solace in each other without judgement. Tenzen’s ascendency to Captain did not cause a rift between the two, Musou permanently viewing him as an equal no matter what he accomplishes or how powerful he becomes. Even still, he contends with him constantly, always working on his craft and bettering himself to compete with the lucrative Oda.
Jinnosuke Ueku • The Devil was famed for his exploits as a criminal, how could Musou not want to seek him out? It was a learning experience, to gauge that of which words had made such a big deal about. In truth, he knows he caught Jinnosuke at the tail end of his fervor, while the devil was hidden somewhere deep inside of him. The two have never fought, but instead Musou discovered an individual who cared about protecting Soul Society and its inhabitants.just as much as he. The surprise alone was enough to draw interest, wanting to understand more about the conflux of a man that was the Eleventh Division Lieutenant. Duty and clashing schedules have prohibited them from doing so, but Musou salivates at the thought of fighting the man, which would give him something that is far too rare: A challenge.
Shusuke Kiyoshi • Another academy mate of Musou’s, Shusuke is a man that he considers to be a close friend. The two of them crossed paths more often than not, and found similarities between each other whilst the aristocratic Kyoraku and Kiyoshi families often shared tea-times and other pointless gatherings. As this transpired, the two of them were working rigorously to risk their lives as Shinigami, leaving the life of a true nobleman behind. Shusuke is Musou’s game partner, the man that he plays Shoji with constantly. The two enjoy sharpening their minds, and having a battle of wits.

Biography:
Musou’s life up until this point has not been extremely exciting. He did not have a rough upbringing to sulk about, difficult parents to deal with, or an unsightly amount of death to cope with throughout the years. Instead, all of his time was dedicated to improving his craft, and the betterment of oneself. While his past is somewhat insignificant to him, he feels as though his Future and what it may hold is much more exciting, and would prefer you ask what he plans to do, as opposed to what he as already done.
