Being the last to arrive had its benefits like seeing all the faces after they all arrived; but of course, it had its faults, being the last to give one's report after everyone else has given there's. It would be a lot of information and thoughts to take in.
"Twelfth has made several requests to investigate the anomalies that transpired in the world of the living, namely Naruki and Karakura… to analyze and determine if the Garganta at all correlate with that of the one in the Rukongai."
This information Honoka shared stood out for Katsuo. He was fine with this, Division 13 will overlook things for them in Karakura and offer protection; still, living beings should be off the experimentation list but monitored closely for changes…there has been enough death...at least in Katsuo's opinion. There wasn't much sense to continue killing now when the togabito and blood had done quite enough.
"I want to put some worries at ease by confirming Shobatsu Murasaki is imprisoned in the Muken. "
So it was true… this news was a little disappointing to Katsuo, though in a way he understood why Shobatsu was there. Still, he hoped nobody would forget the sacrifices he made or the kindness he showed the Vizards. He was a true leader, just and kind, though most may not see it that way.
He'd listen in more and hear what Lieutenant Yasu Yugure and Arashi Suta were up to in the Rukongai.
"I imagine that the events that had happened within both Karakura Town and Naruki City had something to do with the occurrence with the 77th District.."
It was possible, these strange happenings were even worrying Katsuo, though not as much as the concerning numbers of Quincy showing up in Karakura as of late.
“I… will be attempting my captaincy exam soon. I am unaware of my summons for now.”
Katsuo blinked and smiled, and heard Omoni clap for the young Lieutenant. Katsuo followed suit with the clapping for her.
"Congrats! It's a great honor, a lot of fun, and I'm sure you'll do great!"
Then it was Omoni's turn to speak. She looked as though she hardly recognized Katsuo, not that he could blame her. He owed his squad's life to her, and Oyama's… it was something he wouldn't soon forget.
“Before any of the crazy shit happened, Oyama Hoshi and I went to the land of the living to search for a hollow that I could bring back so that I could fix Ueku’s bones. Long story short it committed suicide to get away from me.”
Ah… so that was why she needed a hollow. Katsuo blinked and continued listening.
“The gates of Hell opened and a Togabito showed up in Karakura. It started unleashing destruction right away, nearly took Hoshi if it hadn’t been for a Quincy woman who saved her with some pretty arrows…I tried to save him but I lost a thirteenth member, Shin something. The kid attacked it head-on and died.--- You.”
He jumped, hearing her say "you" and pulled his head back, blushing, and pointing to himself.
"This guy ended up capturing a hollow n’ I was able to complete my mission. Thanks.”
Katsuo chuckled nervously and scratched the back of his head. He saw the 10th lieutenant nod to him in approval, which made his face even redder with a sheepish grin.
"Ah-ha… it's no problem, consider it mutually beneficial, I mean you did what you could to help us with that togabito… so thank you."
Though his thanks didn't last long, he saw Omoni turning angry, gulped, and quickly raised his papers from the table before she slapped it into splinters.
" WHO THE HELL IS ARASHI SUTA?!"
Katsuo gave a dot-eyed gaze and his head slowly turned to Arashi, who'd sat away across the table from him for quite some time. He held his papers in his lap now, after quickly and comedically picking them up before Omoni smashed the table.
"With all due respect Lieutenant Hagashi ...please restrain yourself, this isn’t a playground for you to casually destroy. Now that you've made me bleed I'll ask that you please be considerate of others. We aren’t enemies here but fellow shinigami.. comrades. You should focus your strength on the actual threats, our true enemies. Now, I'd like to get this meeting over with and go about my day to plan the funeral ahead of us."
Katsuo silently agreed with the 10th Lieutenant, giving her a light nod in recognition. He too had several funerals to attend and plan, unfortunately. Several unseated, and 6th seat Shijitsu Kyo's. He also had to meet with Oyama in Karakura soon and needed this meeting over with.
"Lieutenant Suta of Squad Five."
Katsuo calmed and listened to Arashi next, most of his story collaborated with Yasu's from what he was hearing. The blood, he didn't get to see yet. By the time the Garganta was opened in the world of the living, Katsuo had passed out from overexerting his Reiatsu. Though, to hear the origin of the blood firsthand, he couldn't help but feel a little angry. That, and everyone playing at a minor loss of life when there was much more than that… right now every race but those who did this was suffering and it didn't matter what race you were right now… this felt almost apocalyptic; as if something out there wanted to destroy the world. Still, Katsuo absorbed as much of this important information he could. Once Arashi was finished telling a similar story from Yasu, Katsuo heard the 10th Lieutenant finally introduce herself, and proceed to her report.
"Lieutenant Fuyuko Kasumi of Tenth Division. My report will not be as long or as detailed compared to those before me, but I will do my best to give my report."
Katsuo respectfully listened to Lt. Kasumi's report about what had happened in Naruki and bowed in a sort of moment of silence for her fallen comrade Kuro. He clenched his fist lightly in anger upon hearing about her insubordinate members… had they been there they would have probably prevented Kuro's death as she said… but their incompetence could also do the reverse and cost them their lives… like Shijitsu…
" Jinnosuke Ueku, Lieutenant of Eleventh division. I apologize to the rest of you if I don't know your name or face; I tend to isolate myself in either injuries or training, a trend I am happy to announce has come to an end. Regardless of this report, Eleventh is ready to serve."
Katsuo darted his eyes to the large, green-haired guy that began speaking after Lieutenant Kasumi. Out of respect, Katsuo has been rather silent so far. As Jinnosuke spoke, Katsuo knew how he felt about the gap in strength between the current opponents and previous. He, too, was there when the Kototsu completely decimated his former home… the place he remembered first arriving at the soul society at. Had he been younger he'd probably have been dead.
He blinked hearing about one member of 11th going to Hueco Mundo, and returning with the finger of the former god-king… this made Katsuo's eyes widen. He wondered if others also thought what he was thinking about this news…. It wasn't good news at all. Some bigger threat must have eaten the god-king…
After hearing all the reports, it was Katsuo's turn to speak. He sighed and tried to calm himself before he began, standing up and placing his papers on the floor since the table was gone now. His face grew serious, and the silence was ended by the beginning of his report.
"Lieutenant Katsuo Oda, of 13th division. You all might recognize the name, Oda, from Arashi's captain… Tenzen. I'm his younger brother… anyway, from what Omoni mentioned, before Oyama sent me a message to Capture the hollow that showed up in Karakura; the hollow that saved Ueku; word came out that he was there, and he had killed two unseated 13th, before my arrival. When I arrived on the scene… their remains were there, and the Adjucha level hollow was fighting not one but several Quincy. I was honestly astounded and a little nervous about their numbers… however, their arrows were focused on the beast and not our men; as Omoni said, one with long beautiful red-ish hair saved Oyama when the Togabito showed up. The one that concerned me most was a tall, white-haired man with glasses, he seemed more… ready to fight than the others, even if just a little. I'm unsure however what the Togabito did to their numbers, but the Togabito in Karakura did a major blow to our numbers in division Thirteen, and they may see it as an opening to strike the soul society…I took the opportunity to record each of their faces with my soul phone, and Intend to send it to Division 12 so they can be monitored closely. As of right now though, I feel no threat from the Quincy forces coming; but Division 13 will continue keeping a close eye on them, and possibly keep the peace at a time like this. The enemy of our enemy is our friend… or so they say..."
He seemed more serious than when he had first arrived as if a switch had been turned on.
"Of those lost in squad 13, the highest of rank was 6th seat Shinjitsu Kyo, who rushed into battle, as Omoni said, and against orders charged the beast and lost his life. At the time, I was 4th seat, and Oyama Hoshi was 3rd… Oyama, being as young as she is, did her best to help as far as she could; at the time. I, too… was overwhelmed by the power of this Togabito… which mind you it took a captain and two lieutenants to take down… I negated the effects of the hell gate's heat for Captain Yu, if only for a few moments…"
He concluded his reports of what had happened, and with a nod, he acknowledged his weakness.
"I understand that I'm one of the new faces here, so I hope one day I can prove my strength to every one of you… it takes a lot of courage to be strong, but even more so to ask for help…all we have is each other… we need one another to get stronger now more than ever… witnessing the death of so many of my squadmates, my second family… it was a real eye-opener. I hope there is something I can do, anything… to save what little remains of Division Thirteen..."
He looked toward Arashi.
"What you said, before you left us at Division thirteen, was completely true. I'm weak. And... I want to be stronger... I'll get stronger… too much is at stake for me to hold off any longer… Also I feel the need to warn you all of my 3rd seat, Oyama Hoshi."
He paused for a moment, before continuing.
"She may be a little strange when spoken to; she has a sort of split personality and l want you all to be aware of it; I've promised her I wouldn't seal it… I intend to keep that promise, so I am warning you all unless Hoshi is not her normal self around you, use caution… that is all.."
Katsuo nodded to head Lieutenant Honoka and sat back down in his chair. His mind went back to Oyama as he sat there awaiting words… Oyama and Furia… worrying for her, the possible new threats on the horizon, and getting stronger so Division 13 could get stronger… Katsuo was beginning to feel the stress as Lieutenant already.
