"Finally... some alone time."
The young Captain sighs deeply, before leaning against the basin's surface. His chin rests gently on his crossed arms, his elbows languidly hanging over the bath's edge as he reflects with eyes shut.
Like the rest of his tenure as the Fourth Division's Captain, the past two months provided Yū with little to no time to de-stress. While other areas of Soul Society had their peaks and plateaus of activity as time went on, the relief station seemed to be the only place that never found refuge from the traffic. This, added with the fact of his Lieutenant's absence due to other responsibilities in the Human World, weighed even heavier on the tiresome leader. Even though Omoni could be troublesome, in fact– she
was a pain in the Captain's side majority of the time... at the very least, his Lieutenant was another reliable pair of hands that loyally accepted the load when it became overwhelming and burdensome for Yū. Oh, how he desperately wished she was here now... In his mind, it was like he could see her in all her imposing glory– almost hear her, her booming and menacing voice over his unsuspecting frame.
Quote:
"Slept for more than two hours last night, eh? You lazy, sack of shit."
Ah, yes... that was his beloved Lieutenant all right. The
Monstrous Matron (大それた刀自; “
Daisoreta Toji”) herself.
At the echo of her commonplace abuse, the boy's face cracks a soft smile. While Omoni's leading style was brutal, it was unfortunately effective, her power visible through specific and pointed threats. His daydreaming however would prove to be futile; Yū couldn't predict when she would return, as this was often the most frustrating part of her missions... which led him to rely on the next best
thing on the list. The young Captain sighs again, shuffling some more in the bath and turning his head to lay his cheek on his arms. It was assumed that with Yū's absence, the next highest rank present would be in charge– the one calling all the shots.
However, in his third seat's case... well, Kagūwa was truly unpredictable.
A convict released from the
Shin'ōchikadaikangoku on the young Captain's own orders; Kagūwa was a specific cause Yū had grown sympathetic towards. Despite warnings from literally
everybody in the division and oddly enough even Shinigami from other parts of Soul Society he was unfamiliar with, Yū was unwavering in his decision to find a better use for the criminal. Punished for his limitless knowledge and acute curiosity, coupled with his brilliance in the medical field and his unmatched skill in performing surgery, the young Captain was desperate to have him in his ranks.
While he can admit the traits of his third seat could have been more ideal, (like, not relying on an ex-convict) it would be ignorant of Yū to not notice the serious lack of needed potential in his subordinates– almost as if the Fourth Division had never truly recovered from the Shattered Dimensions event that agonizingly robbed them of their best medics. This left them with only a handful of capable shinigami, now stretched even more thin due to other agendas and the handful of incidents that shook the Soul Society as of recent. Circumstances like this provided even more plausible reasoning to Yū's sudden trust of Kagūwa, despite his troublesome and frightening background. And now with his Lieutenant away, the young Captain's trusting and naive character would be the one to leave Kagūwa in charge during his absence– the one calling
all the shots.
Not exactly the picturesque scene the Captain, or any sane individual, would expect or want from the welcoming Fourth Division.
Despite how trusting Yū found himself, his inescapable anxiety still refused to leave Kagūwa alone in the relief station for more than 30 minutes at a time; Even then, half an hour was too much of a risk but, his conventional fatigue seemed to outweigh his golden rule time and time again. His head tilts upwards, peering at the clock.
“Augh, I should go back… unless he's already burnt the place down already...”
… the boy decides, his pruny hands emerging from the bath. His wrinkled fingers grip the edge of the basin as he raises himself up before the cold hanging air suddenly clings to his body. Goosebumps form on his wet skin as his eyes widen quickly, his teeth instantly beginning to chatter. Yū jolts directly back down, the hot water splashing around his shivering frame. He curls back up in the bath with his knees brought to his chest and arms wrapped around his legs.
“Oof… just five more minutes.”
