“The mind of a reporter never rests. If you believe the Commander will even entertain your interrogation, or offer you any sort of justification.. there’s still much to learn Young Maho. It’s best to just continue with your report."
"I have to agree with that, I'm sure that everything Murasaki-sama does has a more than solid purpose behind it."

Maho's stance does not change in the slightest. His gaze falls to change from person to person, at least noticeably.
Another Exhale of smoke is met with a pocket of silence.
"Yeah yeah..."
"I'm well aware of what Captain Murasaki can do. His answers will shut the most childish among us. Asking all these questions gives us nothing but a reason to bicker. I don't like having my time waste-"
“Is there even anything substantial to report from the 9th Division…?”
“All their Captain does anyways is smoke and write and smoke some more. I guess mass exterminating Rukongai citizens NEEDLESSLY and without GUILT could be added to that too, huh?”
Sigh. . .I guess you lack understanding huh, dumbass? In one ear and out the other eh? Yu cha ~"

He offers a simple jest, refusing to take it any further, for now. He draws in a cloud of smoke, allowing it to escape his mouth freely. He shakes his head.
". . .How simple-minded. . ."
Not everyone had the Eye of the Dragon. Their scope limited Yu's eyes were clouded by the light. Kyomu's caught within the Haze of Shadow. Even Higen, blinded by his own sense of duty and prejudice. Maho could only curl his lip. But this is who they were. Not everyone could walk the middle path. Yin and yang were balance given shape and form. The ideology and symbology something many a soul clung to. But only a few saw both halves as a single whole. Maho had to remember who he was talking too. Maho saw all of their perspectives. He was not blinded by his pride. Or his loyalties. Or his emotions. All he wanted was truth in its rawest form. Nothing else, other than ones strength and will hold any validity.

"Honestly though; No There isn't.
I've dedicated my time to bolstering My divisions' Manpower. It has been... real... inconvenient chasing you all around for information during the last few months. So. . ."

Mahosmoke.png

"I'll be dissolving the Ninth divisions entire rank structure and startin' from the ground up. I've personally handpicked a number of Shinigami from the third division and Shino academy over the last few years. My final transfers have arrived today."
He brushes his hand through a few of his locs, then returns his hands to the pockets of his Haori.
"Once we done' here, I'm returning to my training.
Same as I did when Kyomu turned his blade on the Commander.
Same as I'll do tomorrow.

He clenches his fist as it remains burrowed in his pocket. His knuckles pop as his grip tightens.
Should another catastrophe drop on my doorstep, I'll have the manpower to swiftly assess, intercept and handle whatever it may be.

I must prepare twice as much, considering when the times come, all of you will somehow be...'busy' "
. . ."That's it from me. . ."

Anything else was irrelevant to Maho. The others would do their jobs and so would he, for the sake of balance. Yu's childish attempt at striking back at Maho missed the mark. He would have to try harder than that. An eccentric personality such as the Dragons was rock solid in resolve. So long as the world was ruled by strength, Yu was just another step under his feet. One he allowed standing tall out of respect. But do not get it twisted.
Maho is about his Honor. He was sure Yu kept the most glaring of his statements to himself. He knew better than to do the most, especially here. Ah well
These ain't problems he want no way...

“Understood.”
A single word that Captured the 10th Division Captain in his tracks, a feeling of surprise and confusion coursing through him. That was all? No resistance? Perhaps this is what Tenzen wanted, after all. Perhaps he truly understood and accepted his fear—his lack of control. Perhaps it was for this very reason he felt a form of safety.. security, knowing that Higen was there to keep the threat in check. Higen had underestimated the man before him, this was clear. This was the first time in the many months after the event that he could see the Captain whom he’d proctored, as opposed to the monster he’d become.
Taking his place back in rank and file Higen could only listen to Maho’s rant. It appeared it was received by the others in a similar fashion to how he’d perceived it.
"I have to agree with that, I'm sure that everything Murasaki-sama does has a more than solid purpose behind it."
Yu cha ~"
". . .How simple-minded. . ."

The two continued to bicker. Maho’s words may have wrung true; The commander could more than likely put all of their questions to rest, whilst ending the fighting between them in a single word. His word was however reserved for the meeting’s end, where all things were placed on the table before them. In another puff of smoke, it seemed The Dragon was finally going to proceed with his report.

"Honestly though; No There isn't. “

Or Not.
“I've dedicated my time to bolstering My divisions' Manpower. It has been... real... inconvenient chasing you all around for information during the last few months. So. . ."
Bolstering his manpower? Well this was the first Higen had heard of this. Just what was cooking up within those 9th Division barracks walls? The reporters seemed to always be out and about in other divisions but hardly ever had theirs visited; maybe for good reason. Whatever the case, hopefully this was good news. The more soldiers to respond to the Seireitei’s call for help should it arise, the better.
"I'll be dissolving the Ninth divisions entire rank structure and startin' from the ground up. I've personally handpicked a number of Shinigami from the third division and Shino academy over the last few years. My final transfers have arrived today."
Maho was rather picky it seemed. Higen was no different, nearly every Shinigami in his merry band of misfits was picked by his hand. There was no shame in this, but just what was the purpose of dissembling the entire rank structure of the division? Had he lost faith in those who sat in their seats for years? Did he wish to replace them with those who were fresh.. new?
"Once we done' here, I'm returning to my training.
Same as I did when Kyomu turned his blade on the Commander.
Same as I'll do tomorrow.

I must prepare twice as much, considering when the times come, all of you will somehow be...'busy' "
. . ."That's it from me. . ."

The cycle continued, the petty exchange of words continuing amongst the Captains, clearly holding disdain for one another. Perhaps this was a good thing, regardless of what the truth had been, there was a singular beneficial outcome: Maho was continuing to get stronger, to be the best that he could be. He, along with most of the younger Captains standing before him were the defenders of the future. A future where Higen could possibly just be… a memory.
Although 9th Division’s report was ironically rather miniscule, Higen gathered much about The Dragon’s headspace, as well as how the actions of the past had affected all their futures. It felt like ages, but the time arose where his own report would come to surface. There was reluctance there, but also relief as he could finally share his fears and grievances with those he viewed as comrades. Just mere moments after Maho’s closing words Higen stepped forward, isolating himself from the rest. He cleared his throat nervously, obviously the last to report, all eyes and ears locked onto his every word and action.
“Higen Kagayaki. Division 10.”
“I’ll start from the beginning, so that perhaps together we could work together to complete the puzzle.”
“All those months ago, the same day as Kyomu’s Coup we were alerted of an odd anomaly present in Naruki City. The readings were so odd that I in fact decided to visit the city myself. I disposed of the creature and brought a sample back with me to take to the Research and Development Institute. Upon having it examined I.. I was informed by one of the researchers of the hollow’s origin, its natural manner of change and was also told that it had irregular reiryoku traces within it. Traces that did not fall within the category of Shinigami, Hollow, Human or anything else distinguishable by our technology.”

He brings his hand up to stroke at his beard, a staple indicator that the Captain was deep in thought, before continuing with the remainder of his report.
“Almost immediately afterward, Lieutenant Arashi Suta was dispatched to Karakura town to deal with a rather powerful Adjuchas that had been running amuck. His efforts were in vain, underestimating the hollow by all means and becoming gravely injured. My own lieutenant was sent there to resolve the issue, destroy the hollow, and bring Lieutenant Suta home; in this she was successful.”
“We are all aware of the events of the Kōtotsu, as they’ve been mentioned a plethora of times here and now, but I’ll address them again. I arrived late on the scene due to the effects of 2nd Division’s attack. I spent most of my time securing each district one by one to ensure the Seireitei’s safety, along with Captain Kojima. When I arrived, I hesitated but I can promise my hesitance was warranted. The choice I made was pivotal, and I do not doubt any of you would have done the same in my position. As the Kōtotsu plummeted down toward us I was faced with two options…”

The stroking of his beard ceases, his gaze now aimed down toward his toes as he is once again faced with that same hesitance. Being transparent could be both a gift and a curse, but perhaps this one gift of honesty.. this one gesture, would bring the captains into a tighter circle. Either way, he was tired of holding in all of these secrets.
“… To use my Bankai, or allow us all to die.”
He paused for just a moment, his head lifting to receive the possible judgmental looks of his peers. Perhaps some of them had known, but he was sure most did not. He breathes solemnly, closing his eyes before continuing on.
“As we are all standing here today, I suppose you all now know what I chose. My Bankai allowed me to break into the Dangai, just long enough for the sweeper to return to its place of origin. If only it were as simple as that..”
His expression grows more grim, his hands resting to his side in a spell of shame.
“That wasn’t the only thing that was broken that day. Every bone and nerve in my body was also shattered, which forced me into Captain Nakamoto’s care. But most importantly...”
“Time and space shattered before my eyes.”

He swallows nervously, the weight of it all bearing down on him as if the ocean was overturned. No one could possibly understand how it felt, how difficult it all was.
“I saw fragments.. pieces.. different places.. different times. It was all so confusing, and then a blinding light, followed by a sudden darkness. Finally I could see, I could look into the shattered pieces and…
Something looked back.

“A disgusting creature. I don’t know if it was an arrancar.. a hollow.. or something else entirely. It looked at me, it felt as if it peered into my soul. It’s mouth didn’t move, yet it spoke to me. I heard it loud and clear. Black reiatsu sprouted from its hand in the form of lightning, or tendrils.. or both? It reached out to me, it almost had me.. and then it didn’t.”.
He exhaled strongly, he was saying so much.
“For that two months I was in a coma I relived that moment a thousand times over. I watched as the hands of darkness nearly latched onto me over and over again. I heard one word and only one word the entire time. “Interesting.” I don’t know who, or what this is, but perhaps this explains our suspicions that there are larger things at play. Someone is pulling strings in the darkness.”
A sigh of relief rolls over his lips, his eyes opening once more to face the Captains before him. He knew the risks of what he shared, how it could change how he was perceived, or perhaps even effect his status. How his position could be compromised should the right suspicions arise. None of this matters to him, his only concern is solving the mystery so that the Gotei 13 as a whole can be better prepared to face the looming threat. He gives ample amount of time for response before ending his report off with less exciting information, but it had to be explained following his chronological report.
“Lastly, during the holiday we subdued a bount in Naruki City. Two of my officers arrived on the scene and defeated The Saint. There were Quincies and Fullbringers present as well, but I’m sure there involvement was miniscule. None of them were engaged.”
“I guess that.. concludes my report.”

He said somewhat fearfully. As the last to report it was almost guaranteed that the Commander was going to speak out against all that had happened soon. He stepped back into line and looked down at the floor, his left hand gently resting against the hilt of his zanpakuto. Just what was in store for them all? Could they face all the problems they’d brought about today in enough time to be prepared for a genuine threat? Had the threat chose to attack them right here, right now, were they prepared? The answer was simple.. no, they weren’t.

Silence encompasses the room, minus the water beading down the leaves of the freshly watered plants, trickling and dripping into the soil. Their caretaker lost in thought. Her recollection of events replaying in her mind. Civilians sacrificed for simply being in the presence of that cursed pot. Her actions decisive, she cannot let her tempestuous emotions cloud her sense of duty. They had to be sacrificed. An unavoidable necessity. Her cynic thought process immediately calculating, at that time, what could have been the repercussions had one of them survived to seek answers... or worse, revenge.
She clears her throat softly, placing her now empty cup of tea on her desk, when a familiar signature heading in her direction catches her attention. Unusual. She was expecting company, yes, but not him.
She turns to the sound of his knocks.
"Head Lieutenant Oki, It's Kiku. May I come in?"
Honoka stands, uncertain for once if the door to her office was locked.
"Give me a second." The door opens. "Oh. Yes, please come in."
She takes her seat on the chair once again, her back straight, greeting him with a wide smile, her teeth shining through as she offers him a seat with a gesture of her hand.
"Hello, Lieutenant Oki, How are you doing? It's been a while hasn't it?"
She nods, her smile returning to a slight smirk.
It most certainly has Kiku. I am doing well, I hope you also find yourself well?"
She pauses, tilting her head slightly. "I'm curious about your sudden visit, is something wrong?
She pours herself a second cup of tea; still steaming. As if the passage of time had little bearing on the kettle. Perhaps insulation allows it to retain its heat much longer. It wasn't necessarily something she was concerning herself with, or ever really did. She glances at the second cup, gesturing to Kiku he was more than welcome to help himself to a cup of tea as well.
"I stopped by because I was wondering if you would allow me to seek transfer to Fifth Division, Under Captain Oda. I believe his division and wisdom will give me insight i have yet attained alone. Until then i don't think i am worthy of serving First Division."
She quietly sips on her steaming beverage, listening to his baritone tone as he voices his concerns to her. Upon his completion, she lowers her cup and places it softly on her desk.
"I see. This sounds like it is something that has been weighing on your mind heavily." Her demeanor is unchanging. "While I can understand how it may have come to affect you, that in itself is not enough reason to approve such a change. You are very young, Kiku. Wisdom comes with age, as does experience. But your talent, your strength... there is something that Captain Commander sees in you, you may not see in yourself. I will be honest with you..." A soft chuckle escapes her tinted lips. "...I, myself, had many reservations when I accepted the very position of Head Lieutenant. A truly daunting position."
She leans back slowly, until her back presses against the cushioning of her chair. Her voice lowers a decibel, seriousness seeping through her tone.
'I am curious about something. Why Fifth Division? While I do not doubt Captain Oda's capabilities or talents as all, Captain Oda has only donned a haori for two months. Why should your transfer be approved?"

It didn't take long for her unwavering demeanor to wash a sense of unease over Kiku. He sighed as she replied to him; " It most certainly has Kiku. I am doing well, I hope you also find yourself well?"
She would pause, adding a slight tilting of her head. It also made Kiku pause before fully coming to a sit in the chair next t him. "I'm curious about your sudden visit, is something wrong? She asked while pouring a cup of tea. It was boiling, and still warm with steam emitting from the top of the emerald liquid. Noting a small glance down at a second cup, Kiku would reach over, and help himself to an identical cup of tea. Having to pull his face mask down revealing his face underneath. A sharp jaw with single dark birthmark above the left side of his lip. Otherwise he was an average looking depiction of a human male.
af45c088ec5e56172b3d54931f36fd96.png

She quietly sips on her steaming cup of tea as he talked, apparently listening to him addle on. Setting her cup on her desk, Honoka continues him with; "I see. This sounds like it is something that has been weighing on your mind heavily. While I can understand how it may have come to affect you, that in itself is not enough reason to approve such a change. You are very young, Kiku. Wisdom comes with age, as does experience. But your talent, your strength... there is something that Captain Commander sees in you, you may not see in yourself. I will be honest with you..." She went on to say, with little change in her tone until, a soft chuckle escapes her. "...I, myself, had many reservations when I accepted the very position of Head Lieutenant. A truly daunting position."
Almost on que, they both changed their seating positions. Kiku sipping on his tea before Honoka lowered her tone and continued, shifting Kiku's gaze directly to hers. 'I am curious about something. Why Fifth Division? While I do not doubt Captain Oda's capabilities or talents as all, Captain Oda has only donned a haori for two months. Why should your transfer be approved?"
Kiku didn't need to pause or hesitate, he kept eye contact with her and continued to speak in his lazy low tone. " Head Lieutenant Oki, I wish to study Kido in an environment where i can learn hands on with some of the best practitioners in the Seireitei. I would also be seeking to join the Kido Corps, while in the Fifth Division as well. I overestimate my own skill when i actually have only a natural talent for it. Not only does the Fifth Division have someone that has mastered Kido in Captain Oda, it has local heroes like Lieutenant Suta. They both survived that mess at the Kuchiki Manor, that is impressive to me." Kiku would lif this cup of tea back up and finish the last of it. Sighing deep heavy, steam filled sigh, he lifted his mask back over his face as he set the empty cup down. His head tilted and his eyes squinted; a sign of a smile behind his half mask.

“Is there even anything substantial to report from the 9th Division…?”
The quiet, mocking voice of Captain Nakamoto sings out, trailing behind the words of the Dragon. The Fairy has been rather vocal and incredibly sharp tongued for a while now.
“All their Captain does anyways is smoke and write and smoke some more.”
More insults tossed about. A bold move on the young Captain’s part..granted his opinions of Captain Kojima were not at all inaccurate.
“I guess mass exterminating Rukongai citizens NEEDLESSLY and without GUILT could be added to that too, huh?”
Yū continues to stand atop his soapbox in judgement of the actions of Captain Kojima.
”As being powerless to do anything other than complain could be added to your repertoire of skills and tasks.”
The Phantom’s voice casually chimes in, hand casually resting upon his Zanpakuto. Though he’d never openly admit it, Maho was right. Yū, who was not present to do anything, or witness anything is in no place to stand in judgement regarding the decisions of those who were there.
Sigh. . .I guess you lack understanding huh, dumbass? In one ear and out the other eh? Yu cha ~"
Captain Kojima declines the verbal tic for tac battle the young healer seems so eager to engage in. He’s issued his challenge to the fairy, one that was promptly declined. His refusal to physically shut Maho up was all that needed to be seen.
Captain Kojima inhales for a brief moment, before smoke billows out from the mouth and nostrils of the dragon.
". . .How simple-minded. . ."
He mutters to himself.
"Honestly though; No There isn't.
I've dedicated my time to bolstering My divisions' Manpower. It has been... real... inconvenient chasing you all around for information during the last few months. So. . ."

Kyomu glances his way curiously. What manpower? He’s kept a watch on the Ninth Division, amongst others. Though they’ve gained some new recruits, he doesn’t recall anyone of considerable note transferring into Squad 9. Was Captain Kojima deliberately exaggerating the strength of his recruits or...was he truly ignorant to their current level of strength?
"I'll be dissolving the Ninth divisions entire rank structure and startin' from the ground up. I've personally handpicked a number of Shinigami from the third division and Shino academy over the last few years. My final transfers have arrived today. Once we done' here, I'm returning to my training. Same as I did when Kyomu turned his blade on the Commander. Same as I'll do tomorrow. "
He continues on, offering nothing of particular worth. Maho’s hand ventures into the inner lining of his Captain’s haori, he seemed...uninterested in saying much more, or being stuck here any longer. He wasn’t alone.
”I must prepare twice as much, considering when the times come, all of you will somehow be...'busy' ". . .That's it from me. . ."
The Dragon retreats into his proverbial den, returns to his silence as he places the attention onto his senior; Captain Kagayaki.
Much has taken place within this meeting, been said and revealed. Yū reveals the state of the shinigami just recently promoted to Lieutenant, now already gravely injured out of commission, Tenzen Oda’s report regarding the records of the Dangai, one particular shinigami who’s whereabouts are currently unknown..and then there was his behavior. The man doesn’t flinch when confronted with the anger of Higen’s confrontation. The man says nothing…does nothing. There’s no fear at the threat, no stress or anxiety, not even anger at being threatened.
’Interesting…’
The Phantom makes a mental note of this. Eyes shift over to Maho of the Ninth Division who in turn...reports nothing. Kyomu isn’t surprised, truly expecting nothing worthwhile to be said by the man. As always, the Dragon meets the expectations of the Phantom..in full. That only left-
“Higen Kagayaki. Division 10.”
The seasoned Knight steps forward. It is his turn to now address the room.
“I’ll start from the beginning, so that perhaps together we could work together to complete the puzzle.”
A puzzle huh? It seems that there was much that Captain Kagayaki had to reveal. Could there be something that he overlooked? Something that neither he nor his subordinates were able to find? The Phantom listens..intently..curiously.
A strange anomaly in the World of the Living. A strange hollow with readings that were neither shinigami, human or hollow. Kyomu’s eyes narrow. That didn’t make any sense, if it was a reading that belonged to neither of those beings...what was it and more importantly, where did it come from? He focuses on the old man, watching as the Knight begins stroking his beard, an involuntary tick, his...tell.
Kyomu listens to this bit, and dismisses it. It was news he had long since received, he found both the news and the man who the news was about irrelevant. This couldn’t be the big puzzle he spoke of.
Kyomu’s eyes remain blank and dismissive of the perpetual blame he is met with for his actions against the Commander. He listens, hoping there is more to be said, that his information wouldn’t be as useless as those of Maho’s. Higen speaks with hesitation, though Kyomu knows just as Higen knows...there was truly only ever one option. Higen was a man of duty, the Knight didn’t have it in him to abandon the lives of those in need in favor of keeping himself safe and his abilities a secret.
“… To use my Bankai, or allow us all to die.”
The Aged Captain closes his eyes, collecting his thoughts, his scattered self.
“As we are all standing here today, I suppose you all now know what I chose. My Bankai allowed me to break into the Dangai, just long enough for the sweeper to return to its place of origin. If only it were as simple as that..”
Kyomu now begins to focus, perhaps now Higen would reveal what he had been wanting to, what he’s been taking his precious time to share with those present. Something that they did not know that he did, something they couldn’t extrapolate from nothingness.
“That wasn’t the only thing that was broken that day. Every bone and nerve in my body was also shattered, which forced me into Captain Nakamoto’s care. But most importantly...”
Nevermind. It seemed as if Higen too was absent of any actual relevant news or information. That is, until he spoke again.
“Time and space shattered before my eyes.”
”....What do you mean?”

The Phantom asks, studying the broken Knight...very, VERY carefully. Higen hesitates once again, he swallows awkwardly. Even from here he could tell that the senior’s pulse had risen. What had him so nervous. No, what was it that had him so scared? So...terrified?
“I saw fragments.. pieces.. different places.. different times. It was all so confusing, and then a blinding light, followed by a sudden darkness. Finally I could see, I could look into the shattered pieces and…
Something looked back.”

Had Higen gone insane? No, these weren’t the ramblings of a mad man. Given the power and abilities of his bankai, what he claims to have seen wasn’t improbable.
An unknown creature? Could it have anything to do with that strange hollow Higen mentioned earlier? An anomaly in the World of the Living..an anomaly in the Dangai. A coincidence? A mouth that doesn’t move, black reiatsu...something that could peer beyond the veil of time and space to see Higen. What did it all mean?
“For that two months I was in a coma I relived that moment a thousand times over. I watched as the hands of darkness nearly latched onto me over and over again. I heard one word and only one word the entire time. “Interesting.” I don’t know who, or what this is, but perhaps this explains our suspicions that there are larger things at play. Someone is pulling strings in the darkness.”
Interesting? That...thing, whatever it was found it interesting? Was it speaking of the situation...or, of Higen? Had the old man been compromised somehow without knowing? If someone is pulling strings..are any of those strings attached to Higen?
“Lastly, during the holiday we subdued a bount in Naruki City. Two of my officers arrived on the scene and defeated The Saint. There were Quincies and Fullbringers present as well, but I’m sure their involvement was miniscule. None of them were engaged.”
”A Bount? They’ve returned?”

Kyomu questions, surprised that there still exists members of that tribe. Was the bount alone? Did they notice any others?
“I guess that.. concludes my report.”
Instead of more information, Higen chooses to conclude his report with a frightened treble in his voice. There were too many unanswered questions. There was a lot of information they needed that they didn’t have.
”You said a bount appeared..what happened to it? Did your men canvas the area for signs of any more bounts? The Seireitei’s been invaded by their kind once in the past already after all. These Fullbringers, have any of them come in contact with any shinigami prior to this incident? How did the Quincy behave? Did they seem to be plotting anything? Did they seem...organized?”
Kyomu bombards the frightened Knight with question after question. He disregards Captain Kagayaki’s fragile state in favor of more intel. Bounts, Fullbringers, and Quincy...all three who have been enemies to the Seireitei. They needed to be watched. In truth though, Kyomu was considering the ways in which he can track them and eliminate them all. A preemptive strike to prevent any unwanted eventualities.
He awaits for more intel from Captain Kagayaki, while also studying his every move, attempting to assess if Higen was himself...or, the puppet of another.
