“Elende has informed me that a particular prospect hasn’t responded too kindly to my summons. Lukas has made an attempt, but he is keen on having me come to him directly. How cheeky, don’t you think?”
”What the… Not even LUKAS could convince this guy? Now I’m intrigued to see what sort of man this is.”
Blume and Dominic arrive at the bar at the tail end of this elderly man asking if Blume would be joining them, the gaul on this one. The fact they are going through so much effort means that this must be a pure blood Quincy, even so he is acting pretty high and mighty. Dominic pulls out a chair and sits at the bar, waving off the barkeep as he didn’t want anything to drink, he just wanted to listen to what nonsense this old man had to spout.
He Listens
” Wisdom comes with time, young lady, time I have spent listening.””
”Wrong, but continue.”
The rudeness of Dominic Kaiser begins to seep out immediately after he speaks, why though? Of all times why would it slip out now? Because he perceives this old man as being rude to Blume, rude to the Empress of the Quincy. His head rests in his hand looking at the priest, sizing him up wondering what sort of devastating power he has that makes him so bold.
” With all this power you have obtained for yourself and for your alleged allies. Even the ones who stand close to you. Once you have it all, Ms. Diamante, what do you seek from this path?”
The audacity of this man to divert his attention away from his Empress to eat a salad, he plays the game as if the ball is in his court not knowing that they are playing a completely different game, there is no ball, there are no points. There will be an opening bell and a closing bell, he’ll either walk out of this bar alert and ready to serve or unconscious, if not dead. Those were Dominic’s thoughts on the matter, the only thing holding him back is Blume’s command. He’ll lash out with his words but he will not attack the old timer physically, not yet. Though this is why Dominic is not the Emperor, he is too brash, too ruthless he doesn’t have the tact for situations like this. He himself understands this which is why he doesn’t react negatively to Blume responding to the man’s pathetic questions.
“Modern idols or false gods can take such forms as clothes, homes, businesses, machines, automobiles, pleasure boats, and numerous other material deflectors, just like that little cross that sits on your chest. Your dependency is fickle on prayers and support from a God that does not exist to assist the people that seek help. War, famine, plague, and then death, millions of prayers gone up in smoke, unanswered, and it is then that people denounce this faith of yours and many others.”
His eyes shift to Blume now, he is reading her words and knows she has to tread carefully. This man has been a devoted follower of this religion for years, he has surely heard such a thing plenty of times and already has a preloaded statement ready to fire back with. He turns his eyes back to Dimitri and frowns as Blume continues.
“I am more than aware that there are people who have verbally sworn their allegiance to my cause but have yet to devote their souls wholly. There is only so much power one person could have before it begins to cave in… I’m not looking for numbers, if that is what you are insinuating, Father. I need skilled individuals that have a purpose that aligns with mine. Those families that have come beneath me are just gentle influences, small streams that seep into rivers that join lakes and then oceans...”
Still sitting silently he watches and listens all while this bastard eats his salad, his heart pounds furiously because of this snobby punk. This holy man thinks he is beyond reach, out of harm's way because he believes his fate is ordained by the will of his god. His faith is a shield that will divert any harm directed towards him, but those scars on his face would say otherwise. This man has seen and done things in his life, his attitude and stature alone tells Dominic that much.
“My purpose for collecting individuals like you is simply for peace. You’ve seen the repercussions of these otherworldly attacks, what they’ve done to the people that cross the threshold of your church every day. Every day. I seek a safe place for the people of this world. I desire balance. There is no reason as to why we should live in fear of the monsters that our parents told stories of to scare us into slumber any longer… There are limits as to what a person can take. Humans are feeble creatures and do not have the same prowess and both you and I possess makes it even harder to survive.”
He looks to Blume and shakes his head, her last comment about humans being feeble can be used against her. This man of faith could turn that into a dagger against her in a moment's notice as he has seen all sorts of people in his time as a priest, weak, average, and strong. Even in his former life he must have seen the same. Not to mention there were two humans they were just visiting who were anything but weak, the furthest thing from it. He also doesn’t care if Dimitri notices his nonverbal cues to the Empress with what Blume has said and how he anticipates Dimitri to respond; he has a feeling things aren’t going to end with a simple talk.
“I only ask that you join me to aid those who can not protect themselves from the things in which they can not see. You are well aware that this conversation was no means of having you dawdle in actual human affairs, did you? You do enough of that on your own. Shinigami have caused plenty of trouble, bringing even the Gates of Hell to this world all those years ago; Father Lehmann, can you truly look me in the eye and tell me that this is God’s plan for his children? Are you willing to continue to stand by and do nothing in the name of your God as his children suffer?"
Dominic looks over to the barkeep and waves them over as Blume is talking, he orders a shot of rum for himself. Blume stepped on that “no-no” spot again referencing his that man’s god, he’ll have a comeback for that and use it against her too. His shot is poured in front of him and he downs it then proceeds to order a shot of warm Sake to chase it. He downs that as well and pays for both shots, adding quite a nice tip to it as well. He does this to loosen himself up a bit and to relax a little so he isn’t so high strung about this whole thing.
”Is it a little warm in here or is it just me? Probably just me, I just have some Sake hahaha!”
Dominic begins to take off his jacket after blurting out his nonsensical question even though he already knew the answer. He rolls up his sleeves, folds his jacket neatly and sits it down on the chair next to him. He falls silent after laughing for a bit and starts to twiddle his thumbs.
"Prayers may provide the thinnest sliver of hope for but a moment, but reality crushes it so easily, Father. Reality makes people weep and curse the heavens. The reality is that people are needlessly dying from the hands of Hollows, tortured souls in which the Shinigami pay no mind to until it's too late, and those tortured souls only want to take more and more because they want to hurt people because they were wronged. The Shinigami go home and it is us who are left to pick up the pieces of their destruction.”
He looks around the bar, this must be the place that Fred guy owned, sad that he isn't around anymore he would have been a fine addition to the Sternritter. Dom didn’t know the man at all, just very briefly did they speak before literal Hell broke loose so to say he felt anything about his passing would be a stretch. Though he wonders if he had any family and if he does how would they feel about joining the fold, as they should. They certainly must feel the same as this old man, full of questions, hows, whys, and what ifs. Certain Dominic had his own reservations back then when he agreed to join Blume but he can get a read on people without having to ask a single question to them. Even now he questions the “Friendship” he has with the Empress, is he just a sword and shield for her, a tool essentially? Or, is he actually a friend that she sees on equal footing? Dominic treats her no differently than anyone else, he puts everyone on equal footing. However, they had better watch how they step or else that footing will give out with no hope of recovering from the fall.
