“I can’t believe it. After all this time roaming lost, hiding from hollows, we finally get to go free. We can finally move on.”
The wandering soul says as she clutches the hand of her daughter. Another poor human life taken too early. One of a dozen that now begin their journey towards the soul society. All but one looking with hopeful eyes to the Shinigami leading them, Kiniro Yorugao of the Eighth Division.
”Thanks to you, Shinigami.”
A hollow had somehow left its mark on these souls. A cursed seal, preventing them from entering a Senkaimon. Retrieval of the poor souls was deemed impossible, unless a Shinigami volunteered their life in order to escort them through the Dangai. Luckily for them, Kinirio was just such a Shinigami.
However, luck seems to have just run out. The Soul of the little girl, the only soul to look back, now finds it good that she did.
“Mommy...”
“Not now sweet heart.”
“Mommy I see something”

Behind them, the glowing yellow light of the Kōtotsu (拘突, Wresting-Surge) grows ever more present. Its steaming roars echoing through the fleshy chamber of the Dangai. It charges them, a swirling beast of flailing tendrils, slithering and withering its way through the crowded corridors. The Souls erupt into panic, taking off into a mad dash for their very lives.
A Kōtotsu has caught up to Kiniro and the twelve souls following him. It moves at too great a speed for the regular souls to simply outrun, and there’s far too many of them for Kinirio to carry. Any being that comes too close within the creatures vicinity is thrusted through time, assumedly disintegrating from rapid aging. What’s more, the Kōtotsu appears to be able to absorb Reiatsu, increasing its speed proportionate to the amount of energy it consumes. The journey ahead of them is still quite a long one, a miles distance at the very least until they can exit the Dangai. It is up to Kiniro to find a way to save the souls he’s tasked with guiding, and escort them back to the soul society.

The moment the task was passed down to him, Kin knew what was at stake. The task seemed simple on the surface, but realistically speaking he was also risking his life for the job he had accepted. But deep inside, there was a joy he gained from performing under high-pressure situations. This is why he took the mission, regardless now the situation had become dire. Passing through the depths of what is known as the Dangai, Kin remained silent. This was because the moment required it, he needed to be on guard for whatever unlucky situation he could be presented with. The souls he traveled with were merely innocent and deserved another chance at life. But he didn’t allow his emotions to overtake his judgment as now wasn’t the time for that. The party would be traveling through the tunnel as Kin would surely be located at the back of the actual escorted party. Kin was very aware of the Dangai and its powers. All shinigami are informed and taught about the said phenomena before becoming shinigami’s. This is because of the dangers that came with traveling within the said area.
Regardless, Kin was following the team as he remained aware of everything around him. Listening for any sound that could give him the impression that something was coming. The voice of one girl speaking cracked the silence as she was praying her graces to early. Kin didn’t say much as he was too focused on the matter. He was tasked with protecting these souls and he would complete such a task. Her thanks towards Kin was merely acknowledged with him tipping his head to her. His green peripherals keeping an eye out for anything. Kin then heard a sound, this caught his attention instantly as he listened with more intent. Once the sound was deciphered he assumed it was nothing more than the Kōtotsu. The sound of something traveling at a high speed, closing in ever so quickly.
Kin’s teeth tightened as this was merely the worst type of scenario. He couldn’t carry every single soul which made this twice as difficult. He then noticed everyone making a run for their lives as it caused him to sweat slightly from paranoia. His mind racing as he thought to himself, “Just my god damn luck.” Quickly he followed as he started to formulate a plan. It wasn’t the safest, but it would probably assure safety and distance for them. He dashed for the souls which ran for their lives, closing in he called in on them he yelled to all of them;
“Huddle up and keep running! I have a plan! Just brace for impact it won’t be a fun ride!”
Taking a deep breath he knew the group would more than likely listen to him as he was in charge. If they wanted to survive they would listen and wouldn’t question Kin at all. While everyone got into formation Kin would easily follow up and whisper;
“Tick Death More Than a Dozen Times”
The moment he did his Zanpakuto instantly activated, this entered his blade into Shikai. The Blade remained the same as nothing had changed, not like it mattered as this ability would be the answer to this situation. He knew he had no chance with anything in his arsenal for attacks. Fighting the Dangai was stupid, he needed to get everyone out of here, the only way to do that was to accelerate the process. All of this didn’t take much time as by the moment the Kōtotsu started to truly close in Kin was ready to make his move. He instantly with no hesitation swung his sword behind him and the party and released his Shikai’s passive ability. From this, a powerful explosion would consume the area behind them and since it was a tight hall everyone in the room with him would be affected and pushed forward. This was the reason he asked for everyone to huddle up and keep running, it would prevent them from probably flying off in trajectory and landing into the walls of the Dangai which would easily get them killed. The explosion would take place and would blast the crew forward, though it wouldn’t be enough to get them that far, it would surely push them some distance from Kōtotsu. Though Kin didn’t stop there as there was no time to land, he instantly went for another swing and released another explosion to push them again to continue the momentum. This move was risky, but in a situation like this Kin had no other way. This process would continue to repeat until the entire party was safe and exited the Dangai.
There was surely damage to be received from this once the landing happened. But it would be better than actually vanishing in time and never be remembered. Had this all happened successfully and everyone followed Kin’s instructions they more than likely would all survive by the skin of their teeth.

Sorry Kiniro, you do not advance to the next round.

After discussion, the Captain’s have decided that your post does not display enough qualifiers to advance you to the combat portion of the Captaincy Test. If you have any questions regarding your performance, or what factors went into this judgment, please feel free to privately message any of the captains. For now, you will remain Kiniro Yorugao, Third Seat of the Eighth Divsion. Not all hope is lost though, as you have been approved to retain your Bankai! Thank you for applying, it takes a lot of courage to do so, and your effort has been noticed. The Captains look forward to seeing how you develop as a character, and hope to one day see you back as an applicant!

Application: Yamato Jikizu

a940aab6911e21ce523be6441ea8bad8.png

Centuries had passed since the Blood War with the Quincy, and not so much a whisper from the Destructive Monks, that is until recently. Evidence of Hollows vanishing in droves caught the attention of the Soul Society. It was evident they were not being cleansed by the zanpakuto of Shinigami, and with such vast numbers how could the Soul Society not notice? How could they not know what this meant? Many questions arose with this realization, was there a new Emperor commanding them? Had they retrieved the same horrific powers they displayed all those centuries ago? What were their numbers now? Every question went unanswered, and led to only more. With a puzzle to be solved, who else could they turn to but the Twelfth Division? It was the former President of Research and Development that aided the Seireitei in defending against the powers of their enemy at that time, it seemed only natural to entrust them to gather information to aid the Seireitei once more; a preemptive strike to prevent another catastrophe.
Yamato Jikizu was entrusted with the task, a shinigami who had shown much promise within his field. The man appeared eager to take up the task, such was the scientist within him. Dispatched to Karakura Town, near the Karakura Hospital the shinigami emerged from the Senkaimon, and it then and there the gravity of the situation was realized. The Senkaimon closed abruptly, an act that seemed outside the control of the Soul Society. Five points lit up, 100 meters between each point. From a birds eye view one could see an image of the pentagram representing the Quincy, concurrently a brilliant flash tore through breaching the defenses of Yamato’s suit, tearing it open part way while leaving the man himself otherwise unharmed. Yamato understood the risk of such a thing, his spiritual pressure that was previously contained began to spill out profusely, leaking into the air. The humans and wandering pluses were quickly affected, many growing dizzy before toppling over, blood and bile spilling from their mouths. It was no good, they weren’t equipped to handle Yamato’s hazardous spiritual pressure, their bodies were quickly dying off.
Yamato needed to repair his suit, ah. Unfortunately as meticulous as he is, today was the day of all days for him to have left the equipment necessary for repairs back within his lab. ”Well, well. Isn’t this quite the predicament?” A voice. Standing atop the hospital, cloaked in robes of white and pale blue with a head of blonde was a single male who seemed to be faring better off than all others. A single glance was all that was needed to understand who this was; a Quincy.
Was this the one responsible for the mass destruction of hollows in the area? If so, was this a trap set up by him? To what ends? Was it meant to target any Shinigami from the Soul Society? Possible, but it didn’t seem to be the case, so did this mean they were targeting Yamato specifically, expecting him to return? It couldn’t be, how could they possibly foresee that he would be the one sent out? More questions, less answers. The Quincy stood, a mocking grin tracing his lips, how long he wondered, would it take for the shinigami to realize that he’d been cut off from his zanpakuto. Neither shikai nor bankai would work, Kido was also rendered mute within the boundaries of his spell.
Thud
A body struck the ground, hard, lifeless. Someone had died, unable to endure the poison any further. Yamato needed to act quickly, people were dying because of him. The Quincy was killing others with a borrowed knife. However should Yamato move to treat anyone the Quincy was quick to act, launching viciously sharp attacks, impeding his ability to reach any one individual in time, the damned spiritual weapons of theirs was quite a nuisance. The clock was ticking, quickly, if Yamato didn’t act fast many humans and innocent souls would be lost because of him. Trapped within the Quincy’s technique he was certainly limited and pressed for time. Now more than ever, the brilliance of his mind was needed.

“Shit!” As Yamato watched one of the humans dropped to the ground dead with blood pooling from its mouth he did a quick scan of the area. Looking up at the smirking Quincy then back at his suit Yamato came to a realization that made his blood run cold. This Quincy could’ve attacked him square on with his surprise ambush yet only targeted his suit as to expose those below him. This meant one of two things, either the Quincy sucked at surprise attacks or the Quincy knew of him and the effect his poisonous spirit energy had on others. If the latter was the case that meant either info on him and most likely other Soul Reapers had gotten to the Quincys somehow, possibly a new surveillance technique or there was a mole. Yamato thought about drawing and releasing his Zanpakuto for a moment then thought better of it, if he did so the potency of his poisonous spirit energy would skyrocket and kill those below within seconds even if eighty percent of his spiritual energy was sealed away.
As he kept his eye on the Quincy Yamato quickly looked around to get his bearings. Trapped with him inside the Quincy’s technique were five humans and three souls while the Quincy dashed to one person to the other killing them outside his technique. Glancing down at the eight trapped in the technique with him before looking at the five corners of the Quincy’s technique Yamato quickly devised a plan. Inside his finger needles he had a poison he had created just for such an occasion as this, it was able to protect others from his poisonous spirit energy by using the poison as a type of cleanser though at the cost of shortening the lifespan on those he injected. He needed to get this poison into those below him without the Quincy intercepting him.
He would start with the humans as they would likely die from exposure to his poisonous spirit energy first though to make it to any of them in time before the Quincy could get to them would require a bluff of some sort. Logically speaking the Quincy couldn’t be everywhere at once so that left Yamato with a simple solution. Taking off his mask and letting a bemused smirk grace his face he chuckled as he casually glanced at the technique around him and then at the Quincy himself before saying, “All this trouble for little ol me and an ambush on top of that? I thought Quincy were supposed to be big shots who weren’t afraid of anything but it looks like I was wrong. Seems like Quincys are nothing but a bunch of cowards unable to show their faces unless they’re able to set up some kind of trap in advance.” As Yamato provoked the Quincy with his snide remark to insult him and the “Pride of the Quincys” he had found out about when researching them, he went to work.
Concentrating on those below him while seemingly looking around at the technique for an opening he would quickly disappear from sight only to reappear as twenty Yamatos would blitz in all directions. Five of them would move towards the corners of the technique preparing to attack them. Three would charge towards the Quincy with the middle one preparing to draw his sword. Four would be above and behind those three watching the Quincy from different angles with the one farthest to the right still wearing that bemused smirk from before and the last eight including his real body would each charge towards those dying below. Based on his knowledge of the Quincy and their mindset this should be enough to fluster the Quincy and at the very least distract him enough for Yamato to reach at least a few of the humans in time. Yamato had a brief moment of thanks that although eighty percent of his spiritual energy was sealed he could still utilize a hundred percent of his skill through a technique.
Should the clones heading for the corners of the technique not be stopped they would hit it head on and dissolve and the poisonous spirit energy that made up their bodies would start to corrode the technique. Should the Quincy attack those coming for him with his knife instead of the normal ranged Quincy weapon they too would dissolve and hopefully poison him with the same happening if he went for those above the three. If he attacked them with a ranged weapon that they would simply dissolve into poisonous spirit energy with no ill effect to the Quincy. Should Yamato and his copies that were going towards the humans and souls down below be left unimpeded the copies would dissolve two meters from their targets ensuring they weren’t harmed by the energy while Yamato went to work delivering the poison to those he could before the Quincy caught on.
Fortunately luck seemed to be on his side this day as the Quincy appeared to be flustered by the sudden speed clones. Though the Quincy was thrown off a bit he kept his cool and quickly moved outside of his technique and fired at the seven Yamatos in front with a Quincy bow that resembled a Yumi and looked startled when they dissipated into energy. Fortunately this was enough of a distraction to get to all of the humans and souls and give them the life saving poison while the five far above reach the corners of the Quincy’s technique and dissolved into poisonous spirit energy that slowly began to corrode the technique. As he finished giving them the poison Yamato smiled, it always felt so good saving a life, much more so than taking one though he did enjoy fighting.
Getting up from his crouch he turned to look at the Quincy and slowly drew his sword now free to unleash his Shikai to finish destroying the technique that held him. However as he tried to release his Shikai nothing happened, it was then he realized that the technique that held him must have something to do with it. Gritting his teeth as the Quincy laughed at his sudden and late realization he tried firing Hado #33 Sokatsui at the Quincy only to yet again produce no results save for a mere sputter of blue flames. The Quincy was nearly doubled over in laughter as he mocked Yamato, “And here I thought Shinigami were tough, looks like I was wrong. Seems like all you can do is use parlor tricks and mouth off.” Yamato clenched his fists in anger as the Quincy continued to laugh then Yamato took a deep breath to calm himself. Despite the Quincy’s taunts and mockery he had failed to notice the growing erosion that was spreading on the top of his technique and soon the entire top would be gone and possibly the effect of the technique along with it, Yamato just had to be patient.
As Yamato opened his mouth to buy more time however he coughed up blood startling both himself and the Quincy. ‘Damnit, not now!’ He thought as the grinning Quincy drew his bow back and aimed at him firing dozens of arrows as he sensed his preys weakness. Dodging out of the way while gently knocking two of the humans and one of the souls out of the line of fire Yamato switched Hidora to his left hand and his scabbard to his right, drawing the scabbard back to perform Onibi as he thrust the scabbard towards the Quincy only to hit the barrier and crack it. Grinning evilly the Quincy then drew back his bow once more and fired dozens of arrows but this time at the unconscious humans and souls! Cursing under his breath at such cowardly and underhanded tactics Yamato placed himself between them and the incoming arrows. While his modded body was barely scratched by the arrows the fact that the Quincy wasn’t above targeting the humans and souls was going to make taking him down quite difficult if not impossible until he could use Hidora and Kido again. Suddenly agonizing pain bloated through his right arm and his chest nearly causing him to scream in pain though he managed to grit his teeth and bear it. At this moment he wasn’t sure what was worse, the pain coursing through his body or the Quincy and his underhanded tactics, would he be able to hold off long enough for the Quincys technique to fail?
