Rankings and Requests

Here the ranks and military structure of the group will be outlined. For Shinigami, your seating will be based off your strength and skill level compared to other members of your division, though Captains will have the ultimate say of where you rank in their squad. Arrancar will decide their Espada numeros based off where they fall against one another in terms of power, and must appoint their own Lorde. Finally, Quincy must appoint their own Emperor, who is responsible for assigning letters to Sternritter.

Gotei 13 –– (護廷十三隊, Goteijūsantai; lit. "13 Division Imperial Guards", or 13 Court Guard Squads)
The primary military branch of Soul Society and the main military organization most Shinigami join after leaving the Shin'ō Academy. The Gotei 13 does not normally operate as a cohesive unit. The command of the divisions are generally left to the discretion of its particular captain, who commonly runs it whatever way they see fit, allowing for the change of a division's traditional duties to an entirely new set and even the creation of a separate institution connected to the division. The Gotei 13's main duty is to defend the Seireitei, but they are allocated districts in Rukongai to defend. In addition to these duties, Shinigami have to deal with the business of being assigned to the Human World.

First Division –– (一番隊, Iichiban-tai; "Squad 1")
The First Division is ranked highest among the 13 Divisions. Even subordinate members of the First Division are considered model Shinigami. Emergencies must be dealt with swiftly; quick decisions and quick actions are essential. The division is able to ascertain a situation and mobilize quickly even before an order is issued. That is the true value of the First Division.

Second Division –– (二番隊, Nibantai; "Squad 2")
The 2nd Division has been directly linked to the Onmitsukidō for centuries, since the former Commander-in-Chief of the Onmitsukidō was promoted to Captain. As such the special operations of Soul Society has become the full measure of what the division involves itself in primarily. Members are tasked with assassination, policing, detention and message couriers.

Third Division –– (三番隊, Sanbantai; "Squad 3")
The 3rd Division originally had no special duties but has changed over the past few centuries. Due to the various incidents and conflicts regarding not only the Arrancar but the Quincy as well, much emphasis has been placed on properly honing soldiers to serve the Seireitei. The 3rd Division were entrusted with overseeing the general over all instructions of students enrolled in the Shin'ō Academy (真央霊術院, Shinōreijutsuin, Spiritual Arts Academy). Due to this many of the Squad members place much emphasis on being well rounded in the four major Shinigami combat forms, and also assist in the practical training exercises in the World of the Living to ensure the students’ safety.

Fourth Division –– (四番隊, Yonbantai; "Squad 4")
The 4th Division is the medical/supply division. They are responsible for both treating the injured and doing most of the manual labor, such as cleaning the Seireitei. The 4th Division is further divided into teams that have specific assigned jobs. Other division members use their spiritual power only for fighting. Members of the 4th Division possess spiritual powers that are used to tend to wounds and provide relief. They use these special powers and the benefits of their daily training to act with precision and speed to aid injured comrades. 4th Division administers emergency first aid to injured division members and transports them to the General Emergency Relief Station.

Fifth Division –– (五番隊, Gōbantai; "Squad 5")
No special duties had been noted for the 5th Division in the past. Since the linking of the Kidō Corps (鬼道衆, Kidōshū) over the past few centuries their role has since changed. The 5th Division has been directly linked to the Kidō Corps, with the Captain simultaneously holding the titles Kidō Corps Commander and Grand Kidō Chief while the Vice Captain is generally the Vice Kidō Chief. As such the monitoring and operations of the Senkaimon between the human world and Soul Society, releasing the Sōkyoku seal during executions, studying and discovering new Kidō as well as monitoring and maintaining the barriers of the Seireitei all fall under the duties of the 5th Division.

Sixth Division –– (六番隊, Rokubantai; "Squad 6")
The 6th Division is seen as a model division by every Shinigami and is known for its strict adherence to rules. Due to their zealous adherence to Soul Society’s Laws they were entrusted with protecting and safeguarding the Central 46 due to the incident centuries ago involving the murder of the judiciary and abuse of the laws put out, while also aiding to review and amend the laws of the Soul Society. As such its members are often prime candidates for joining the judiciary down the road. The 6th Division have been known to detain Shinigami when faced with accusations of breaking their laws.

Seventh Division –– (七番隊, Nanabantai; "Squad 7")
This division is made up of sincere, unpretentious people who live life with gusto. Strong moral obligation and compassion is the ethos that has been passed down through the ranks of the 7th Division. As such its members have been tasked with patrolling Rukongai (流魂街, Wandering Soul City; "Rukon District" in the English Dub), more often than not keeping an eye out for those with potential to become Shinigami while also investigating anomalies and phenomena within the 320 Districts. Members of the 7th Division have also become the Gatekeepers of the four gates of the Seireitei.

Eighth Division –– (八番隊, Hachibantai; "Squad 8")
In the past, the 8th Division originally had no special tasks or duties. Since the invasion of the Quincy centuries ago emphasis was placed on a need for those capable of repairing and reforging Zanpakutō (斬魄刀, Soul-Cutter Sword; Viz "Soul Slayer"). As such, the Soul Society studied the forging methods of Ōetsu Nimaiya (二枚屋 王悦, Nimaiya Ōetsu) in order to replicate his process. A special forge was constructed within the division’s barracks for smelting and forging. The Division is tasked with not only repairing the broken or damaged Zanpakutō for the entire soul society, but also forging other weapons, armours and equipment for the Gotei 13. The Division members also maintain and help distribute the Asauchi (浅打, Shallow Hit) to the Shinigami in training, it is currently unknown if any member holds the capability of repairing or reforging a damaged or broken Bankai.

Ninth Division –– (九番隊, Kyūbantai; "Squad 9")
The mission of the Ninth Division is to protect the Seireitei. It is always on standby for combat because it is the security force of the Gotei 13. Traditionally, Ninth Division has overseen arts and culture. For this reason, it is known to be in charge of the Seireitei news magazine. All the lieutenants of the divisions of Gotei 13 hand in their reports to them

Tenth Division –– (十番隊, Jūbantai; "Squad 10")
Naruki City is under the jurisdiction of the 10th Division. This includes performing Konsō (魂葬, Soul Burial) on wandering Pluses, cleansing Hollows through sublimation, protecting the humans from invasion or Hollow attacks and investigating and monitoring any spikes in spiritual activity and other spiritual phenomena within the city.

Eleventh Division –– (十一番隊, Jūichibantai; "Squad 11")
The Eleventh Division is a direct-combat Division with a specialization in swords-only combat, forgoing the other Shinigami arts and thereby being one of the most specialized divisions in the Gotei 13. As such, it is common practice for members to be carrying their Zanpakutō at all times. The division's doctrine of dominating in battle is what appeals to its members; they believe that fighting is what makes life worth living. This is what separates the 11th Division from the others and makes them the strongest division. Everyone in the 11th Division are highly skilled in fighting. They believe if they are going to die anyway, they have to go down fighting gloriously.

Twelfth Division –– (十二番隊, Jūniibantai; "Squad 12")
The 12th Division develops new technology and spiritual tools and its been the home of the S.R.D.I. for 110 years. The 12th Division has been directly linked to the Shinigami Research and Development Institute over the past several centuries. As such technological and scientific research has become the full measure of what the division involves itself in primarily. Members are tasked with research and collection of data and samples.

Shinigami Women’s Association –– (女性死神協会, Josei Shinigami Kyōkai; lit. "Female Shinigami Society")
An organization of Shinigami women; most of the members consist of higher-ranking Shinigami within the Gotei 13. The Shinigami Women's Association is notable for pushing for various means of improvement for all Shinigami. When not hanging out for their own purposes, the members have been known to work on various items both to help out others, as well as raise funds.

Shinigami Men’s Association –– (男性死神協会, Dansei Shinigami Kyōkai; lit. "Male Shinigami Society")
A men's club of Shinigami that sees themselves both as a men's meeting facility and the rival towards the Shinigami Women's Association.The purpose of the club is unknown, but it seems to be a place where men can show off. A mandatory pair of sunglasses must be worn at each meeting, and shirts are not permitted. They have the lowest budget of all the clubs within soul society.

The Espada –– (十刃, (エスパーダ), Esupāda; "Sword", or "Ten Blades")
The top-ranked and most powerful Arrancar in Hueco Mundo, the Espada are comprised of ten Arrancar with exemplary strength. Members of the Espada are given a number from 0-9. Their immense amount of power and leadership status among the Arrancar also grants each Espada the authority to exert command over the other forces within Las Noches: the Números, the Exequias, and their own Fracción, chosen by them from the Números. Similar to the power gap between captains and lieutenants in the Gotei 13, the strength of the Espada far surpasses that of the average Número.

God-King –– (神王, Shin'ō )
The God-King of Hueco Mundo is the lord of all Arrancar and the ruler of Los Noches. Referred to by their subordinates as “Your Majesty” or “My Lord”, the God-king is the single authority over all Hollow-kind, and the commander of the Espada.

Exequias –– (葬討部隊 (エクセキアス), Ekusekiasu; "Funeral Rites", or "Funerary Attacking Force")
The execution division of the God-King’s army. The Exequias are responsible for terminating any rebels or intruders in Las Noches, hence their name. Like the Números, the Exequias are subordinate to the Espada, though the extent of the latter's control over them is unknown.

Wandenreich –– (見えざる帝国 (ヴァンデンライヒ), Vandenraihi; "Walled Empire", or "Invisible Empire")
A hidden empire of Quincy that are at war with the Soul Society. Ruled by a Central Monarch, the Empire defends the World of the Living through its own means while also aiming to conquer both Soul Society and Hueco Mundo, eradicating both their long term enemies. The Quincy have been at odds with the Shinigami for centuries, a blood feud that persists to this date.

Almighty Emperor –– (天皇全能, Ten'nō Zen'nō)
The Almighty Emperor is the commander of the Wandenreich and ruler of Quincy. It is the Emperor who bestows letters upon their most loyal subjects, thus distributing power to those aligned with them, and creating Sternritter. As the Emperor they represent the letter “A” for Almighty, signifying their absolute rule over all of their kind. Should a Sternritter die their borrowed power is relinquished back to the Emperor, who’s blood is the source of Wandenreich’s might. The Emperor at all times, is surrounded by four elite guards known as the Schutzstaffe, who are chosen from amongst the strongest Sternritter.

Sternritter –– (星十字騎士団, Shuterunrittā; "Star Knights", "Star Cross Knight Band/Order")
A group of elite Quincy combatants that serve as. They are lead by the Sternritter Grandmaster, who serves as the Emperor’s right-hand. Members of the Sternritter and certain other individuals within the Wandenreich military are each assigned a letter of the alphabet and an appropriate epithet by the Emperor in order to designate them.

Jagdarmee –– (狩猟部隊, Yākutoarumē;German for "Hunting Army", or “Hunting Corps")
Originally entrusted with capturing Arrancar to serve the empire, the Jagdarmee are a separate hunting unit serving as a primary means of invading enemy territory and as an occupational force when said territory is conquered. They are thought to be the special forces of the Wandenreich military, with each member being close to a lieutenant Shinigami in terms of power. They are lead by the Executive Hunting Captain, and are often deployed to eradicate key targets, or eliminate deserters and traitors.

Application: Mahō Kojima

The Captains stood gathered in the meeting hall, summoned by Commander Shobatsu Murasaki. It was a state of emergency, as several Shinigami from various divisions have been reported attacking their peers, ending in a dozen or so casualties. The suspects cried and proclaimed their innocence, that it was not their doing. It was them moving, and acting but they held no actual control over their actions. The notion seemed preposterous, the ramblings of those seeking to divert their execution.
In the midst of the situation, Maho Kojima spoke out. He was always the eccentric type, and while others were skeptical or unconvinced by those proclaiming their innocence, Maho believed them. Clearly unsatisfied with the prospect of simply killing off their comrades. Whatever his thoughts or feelings were, he earned them a stay of execution, but it was not without its stipulations. Since Maho believed in their innocence, the burden fell on him to locate the proof, the Ninth Division was dispatched to investigate the matter.
The Division members searched the area, their investigation bringing them to Rukongai. Several members made contact with Maho and his party, requesting them to come to the Zaraki District, believing they found something warranting further investigation. Once Maho and those accompanying his small cell arrive, they are greeted by the members of Ninth Squad who contacted them. Without any delay or intent expressed from them their zanpakuto were drawn and they begin their attack on Maho and fellow squad members.
”What’s going on?” They cry out as their bodies fluidly move from one attack to the other. Similar to the previous incidents that were reported.
There is a Hollow, though not yet a full Arrancar its powers are no less dangerous. Through unknown means it has been able to subjugate the bodies of others, manipulating them at its leisure. Its next to impossible to determine who has and has not been compromised, and the abilities of those possessed and controlled have had their physical abilities augmented, their sense of pain dulled to the point it doesn’t exist. They will continue to fight regardless of any injuries dealt to them, and cannot be struck unconscious as their bodies are not theirs to control. The enemy, while hidden completely would have one to believe the only means of recourse, is to completely destroy the bodies of those who are controlled. It is up to Maho Kojima to respond to the issue at hand.

”What’s going on?” They cry out as their bodies fluidly move from one attack to the other. Similar to the previous incidents that were reported.
Their swords swing wildly at their own allies, without any care being given to their lives. It was as Maho feared, that some hidden force had the means to control an individual’s movements, all the while augmenting their abilities. Despite seeing the possession take place, a wave of relief swashed through his vessel. It meant he was right to step up for the lower seated Shinigami. None else would even bother with it. He was relieved because those lives could be spared.
Then his brow folded over. In order for them to be spared execution, he would have to solve the mystery of this threat, then crush it. Not an easy task, even for one with sensory skills on Maho’s level. He closed his eyes, the sounds of clashing weapons lingered until there was nothing but silence. For a moment, all the excess thoughts filtered out of his mind, one after the other until there was nothing but the task at hand. He paid close attention to all the energies currently in his vicinity. There were the unpossessed, and the possessed members of Division Nine. Something was different about those who were under possession. There were five of them in total and seven who had arrived with him currently engaged in a small skirmish. The division members were quickly becoming overwhelmed by their empowered adversaries, their cries breaking his concentration momentarily.
” C-Captain! We won’t last long here!”
” He’s right Maho Sama! They’re strong we'll die if we don't do something now!"
Those under the hollows control cried out in agony as they attempted to cut their allies down, unable to stop their movements if they tried. Some begged for them to kill them quickly before they hurt anyone else. Some begging for their lives. All drew silent once they heard Maho’s voice spill out across the entire room.
” Everyone! Retreat! Now!”
Those who were free of his control, understood right away that his word was law. Those capable of shunpo made haste making their way just outside the sliding doors that they had arrived at. Maho himself stepped forward, long trails of smoke following in his path. Even those under the hollows control suddenly hung back as if anticipating what would come next.
” Your Zanjutsu is lazy you fools. You hold those swords far too low. And your shoulders are sloppy!”
Their eyes widened as a few were brought to tears. Although they were clearly threats, Maho still saw them as precious subordinates, those worthy of being saved.

Those possessed armed their swords at him, no longer hesitating. The being in control forced them to charge him all at once. For a moment he smiled, their cries had reached him. He would not let them die. Though, the cost of their weakness would have to be some pain. They would thank him later. From behind his hood, his eyes opened, revealing a foreboding glow and with it, his spiritual energy suddenly erupted from his body. His expression had changed, his lip curled, and his fists tightened. Whatever had taken his subordinates from him would pay, even if had no immediate means to find it.
” If I can’t find the one responsible, I bet my left nut its somewhere nearby. If not and I’m wrong about this, then it will be a much bigger problem than we ever anticipated. Well. Won’t know until…”

Following the emergence of his spiritual energy was the full brunt of his spiritual pressure. It was overbearingly heaven to those in the room, who movements stunted just two or so feet from Maho. Though their abilities were augmented, even a fellow captain would find it difficult to step through such pressure. Let alone unseated Shinigami. Even his subordinates outside were brought to their knees, unable to stand against the physical wall of spiritual pressure sitting just atop their shoulders. He focused most of his pressure on those possessed, just in front of him. Those free of the enemy’s control were roughly fifteen meters behind him. From standing position, they would lower themselves to one knee, then to both. The floor cracked and splintered apart, sending wood shards all about.
” Hang in there…everyone. Its gon be over soon.”
His spiritual pressure gradually rose. Everything began to quake in response. Wood splintered on the beams keeping the ceiling up; objects fell from walls. After a few seconds, those closest to him were face-first on the floor, unable to move. Those behind him were still on hands and knee’s doing everything they could to not die. He had increased the pressure and expanded the range. If his senses hadn’t failed him, the Hollow in question would too, be suffering under the effects of his spiritual pressure, which had currently exceeded 35 meters, being strongest in the center. Maho knew there was a margin of error, however. In order to keep the attacking members in check while sparing everyone else from being crushed under his spiritual pressure, he would thrust his left arm outward, Black metal molded from his arm, like clay or gel it stretched and molded into two fists, both large enough to come clasping together, trapping the five possessed Shinigami between their immense might.

While he still had time, several smaller hands were formed, six in total. They spiraled around his body, before spreading about the entire compound. His senses were linked to each component of his Shikai and as they searched around if they found any signs of hollow energy or the hollow itself they would move to obliterate it immediately. There was always the off chance that his spiritual pressure trick would fail him. If so, he’d have had to accelerate the use of his Shikai in order to save time and put those attacking under control. However, the power of a captain was not to be ignored. Even if their sense of pain was dulled, they hadn’t the strength to oppose his might.
By this time, he had stopped applying the physical effects of his spiritual pressure. Those behind him remained on their hands and knees for a moment. He stopped them with another critical order.

There was no time for disobedience in his voice. He meant every word he uttered. Those on the ground could do little but stare at him silently. His arms crossed as he allowed his Zanpakuto to do its work. He took in a large breath, Large plumes of smoke rose into the air filling the room with a thick haze, and a sweet aroma. He stared at those clasped between the hands, observed their spiritual energy closely. Gradually, his Zanpakuto was draining them of not only their spiritual energy but that of any others if it was present. He would offer them a question if they still had the will to answer it.
” What were you all doing here before we arrived? And leave no details out. If I can’t find this thing, I’ll need to take everything into account. Miss anything and we might all die. Now speak!”
If all went well, he would discover the enemy’s location and eradicate it. On another hand, he had apprehended all those under his control, but he could not return home empty-handed. They would very likely lose their lives and Maho would be labeled a failure. Worst case scenario the being took control of Maho as well, forcing the hand of a captain against the soul society. Yeah right! There was no time for jokes. He listened to their words closely, hoping to find the answer to this riddle swiftly.

The fight can be stopped at any point, but is permitted to continue up until the brink of death of either party.
