There was time to finally settle down after the Arrancar raid on Karakura town, time for some sense or normality to return to the lives of those affected by the events that unfolded over those four days. During that time Dominic had learned that his uncle was a casualty in those events. What energy he could have used to mourn him was focused on becoming stronger, a stronger MMA fighter and a stronger Quincy. He doubled down on his Quincy studies while keeping up on his physical prowess. His workhorse mentality surely inspired others around him to do the same in some way. Under the tutelage of Diamante instructors he never missed a beat with his Quincy training, more than that they even supplied him with coaches to elevate his fighting game to the next level. It was a strange equivalent exchange and he noticed it. Losing the only parental figure he ever had in exchange for the best teachers and coaches the Diamante had to offer. If he could trade all of that to have his uncle back he’d do it in a heartbeat.
Rise of a Champion
His first fight with Diamante sponsors backing him was something he only saw in dreams, the bright lights of a stadium, the roar of the crowd, the cameras, the hype. When he walked out for his first fight his senses were assaulted by all of this and for the first time in his life he was petrified. Diamante promoters hyped this youngman up to mythical proportions dubbing him the one hit K.O. king. His eyes absorbed the information around him before finally moving forward, each step felt heavy as if his legs were made of lead. This was what he always wanted, right? To stand center stage where other MMA greats stood and claimed the fighting world as their own. Without a doubt, this is what he wanted and he presses onward until finally setting foot in that familiar octagonal structure. He was home, all the lights, roaring crowds, cameras, they all vanished once he crossed that threshold.
Heavy legs were no more, he started bouncing in place, loosening himself up for what was to be his big debut. Looked at as a rookie backed by the wealthy, he wasn’t thought of as much, especially due to how he walked out to the ring. Announcers were already calling the fight in favor of his opponent, saying things like “This kid is in over his head!” or “This youngman is in the wrong place, he looks lost!” These words made him smile, he smiled so much he began to grin and ooze with confidence. No, these people have no idea what he’s seen. The gates of hell opened up right in front of him, a town besieged by spiritual monsters that claimed countless lives. The one in over his head is the man who stands across from Dominic.
To clear the air, Dominic never uses his spiritual powers when competing, only his raw human talent and skill. The bell rings, both fighters meet in the center of the ring to touch gloves, a form of courtesy to one another. They circle around the ring and his opponent rushes in for a double leg takedown. He thinks Dominic is a cocky rich kid way out of his league, his little 3-0 record must have been fighters paid to take a dive. While these thoughts were going through the man’s head he realized Dominic was no longer in front of him. The last fading image he saw was the announcers, jaw dropped, hands in the air in amazement. The youngman took notice of his opponents movements the way his muscle began to move for that take down and once it was initiated he repositioned himself to the side.
One well placed soccer kick to the head was all it took to knock his opponent out in a match that ran the course of 18 seconds. 4-0 was his new record and it would only continue to grow from there.
15-0 Is his current record and he managed to grab his first world title, the Middleweight Champion. He had shed some weight to compete in this division and he had an absolute stranglehold on it and it’s title. His goal had been accomplished and he became a world champion but that wasn’t enough. He wanted to dominate the entire MMA world. But before he began to do that his Quincy studies were taking priority for a bit of time. He finally managed to start creating his own bow effortlessly and his marksmanship was becoming quite exceptional. The level of energy and power he put behind each arrow was astounding, the targets he would shoot would be left with gaping holes in them. The abundance of Hollow’s made live target practice much more viable, given the amount of them that were around it seemed like the Quincy could kill them without suffering the wrath of the Shinigami.
But this meant nothing to Dominic, killing these fodder meant nothing unless he could kill the source, the true threats, the Arrancar. His studies continued and eventually he stopped attending the live target exercises, it was like a child crushing ants they learn nothing from it other than they are superior to the ants, that is not how Dominic wants to prove his strength. He wants to fight and beat the best, just as he does in his MMA career so too will he do this in his life as a Quincy.
Dominator
Challenges came his way often as his stranglehold on the Middleweight Division continued. To defeat Dominic would not only boost one’s career but their bank accounts as well. Betting on his fights became like the lottery, should Dominic ever lose, the pot would be tremendous and those who bet against him would become overnight millionaires. These shallow fleeting dreams of gamblers would not come to fruition even after the man took center stage in the Light Heavyweight Division. His days of one hit K.O. were behind him as he began drawing out fights to enjoy them, learn from his opponent and most of all, put on a show. He loved this life, the thrill of it was the greatest thing for him, here he could be free, do as he pleased without repercussions. However, as time ticked on his large cocky grin slowly faded, everyone watching this man’s career noticed that he no longer wore what was once his trademark grin.
A bit of a celebrity at this point rumors began to circulate about his health and wellbeing or if some condition he has is preventing him from making those one shot K.O’s of old. These rumors were not true, of course, and they did not bother him in the slightest. Their little gossip meant nothing to him as long as he got to fight in matches he was happy. In truth he was growing up, the teachings and drilling of being a proper Quincy were maturing Dominic quite a bit taking him from a brash foul mouthed boy to a studious and disciplined man. Although he still had the potential to be quite foul mouthed, that was something he could never get rid of entirely.
Since he was Blume’s bodyguard this new demeanor was more suitable, at least to those around Blume who wanted to keep the look of Royalty intact. This never once stopped him from being blunt with Blume, never hesitating to call her ideas stupid, or disagree with her. While he wasn’t exactly her council he was a voice that kept himself grounded in reality. While everyone else had their heads in the clouds talking about mights and maybes or boosting Blume’s ego Dominic kept his eyes forward, always making sure to watch where he stepped and in turn made sure Blume walked a similar path at the very least. There weren’t many who would call him out on his brash rational since there weren’t many, if any at all, who could call him out. The man was a world champion in MMA, furthermore, his skills as a Quincy were beyond any of their petty notions of nobility and prestige. He grew up with something most of them probably didn’t have, common sense.
Middleweight, Light Heavyweight, and Heavyweight, he had all three titles, he was the ruling king of them and there was no one who could or would dispute his reign. There were still those who threw their hat in the ring, no pun intended, and tried to dethrone him but they always failed. With no more suitable challengers Dominic announced his retirement but not before calling out a star rookie he had his eyes on. He was retiring young, yes, but many saw this as him passing the torch onto the next generation, to the next great champion of the future. None of these were the case, Dominic had his eyes on the young man because he was spiritually aware and possessed Reiryoku to some degree. This rookie was able to use his Reiryoku to enhance himself to dominate in fights. He was no threat to anyone outside of humans, if he were attacked by a Hollow he would surely be easily eaten without much effort on the Hollow’s part.
Dominic spent his whole career never using his Spiritual Energy so to see someone else using their to climb the ranks upset him and he had to put them in their place.
”I’m gonna show you there is a whole world of power that you shouldn’t be fucking with.”
Dominic said these words to the star rookie, Tekisetsu, at the weigh in and he immediately knew what he was talking about. He knew because the moment he said those words Dominic began to show his Reiryoku. Tekisetsu saw this, he saw that there was someone else in the world just like him and that he would have to fight him. The world was confused by Dominic’s statement, was he out to crush a rookie in his final match? Was the indomitable champion truly about to end the career of a rookie? Naturally, as they do, people took to social media and took his words out of context, over analyzing the footage and so on. They didn’t have the whole truth, they didn’t even know what his words meant so they made their own truth and gave his words their own meaning. In a matter of days the beloved champion had become a despicable villain. His pr team tried to play damage control but Doiminic told them to “let it ride” meaning to just let people continue on their wave of ignorance. His opponent got the message and he alone knows what it means and because of that he can never tell the public that he has Spiritual powers and that’s how he managed to get so far. Not only would it sound ridiculous it would devalue everything Tekisetsu had done up to that point.
The Champion
The day of the fight arrived, the match was high profile so there would be many eyes glued to that octagon. First to come out was the star rookie, a young man who had been hailed as the second coming of Dominic. Unknown to the masses, Tekisetsu was using spiritual power to win all his battles. His stride to the ring was not a confident one, there was nervousness in every step he took and the announcers were quick to pick up on this but chalked it up to a natural reaction to facing the Triple Crown Champion. The Champion makes his way out and is met by thunderous boos. He keeps a soft smile on his face despite all of this, his eyes and focus are tunneled on the rookie.
The ring announcer began to hype the crowd up, introducing each fighter to them with gusto. But as much as the crowd cheered and booed they were quick to fall silent when the fight began as the two fighters just stood on opposite ends of the ring just staring at each other. The first one to stride to make the first move was Dominic, closing the gap rather quickly throwing a right straight. The shock of the century takes place as the rookie not only dodges the blow but counters with an uppercut that actually manages to stagger the Champ. He stumbles backward from the blow with the rookie closing in fast. Rushing to finish the fight early he is caught by a right hook that firmly connects to the side of his head. He was rocked by the punch, enough to get him to back down from his assault.
”Fight like you normally do punk ass!”
Dominic shouts at Tekisetsu, taking him off guard for a moment. He wasn’t using his spiritual energy yet and Dominic wanted him to use it to show him that there are no shortcuts he can take to the title. Then it happens, no one else could see it, only those who are spiritually aware could see the silver Reiryoku flowing from the rookies body. It was dazzling to look at, quite possibly the most beautiful Reiryoku Dominic had ever seen, even if it didn’t amount to much it was still nice to look at. Both men tighten their guard as Dominic closes the gap again and throws a left jab, the rookie ducks using his now spiritually enhanced body to outpace the champ.
CRACK!!
A sickening crack echos in the arena as the rookie takes a knee to the face. He stumbles back, trying to catch himself and regain his composure before Dominic can close in on him, but he is too late. The champ was upon him and delivered a body blow the landed with a solid thud if not for the Reiryoku running through his body he would have been on the ground by now and he knows this. The sweat running down his face is more than salty, it tastes metallic. His nose was broken from the knee to the face he suffered not long ago and before he knew it his back was up against the cage. He was an animal backed into a corner and he viciously lashes out with a straight kick to the midsection of Dominic with a thud of his own. He feints a left jab then feints a right hook only to connect with another kick to the champ's midsection. He moves to throw another kick to which Dominic raises a leg to check the kick only to have Tekisetsu slip through his guard with straight left to his chest.
This was the first time anyone had seen Dominic out played like this in a fight, more than that it's the first time anyone had seen a fight like this period. There were no breaks, no pacing the ring, there were constantly punches and kicks flying in this bout. The rookie is slowly pushing Dominic towards the cage, he wants to end this fight as soon as possible because the air of this fight is ominous and ripe with disaster. Dominic lowers his arms and in that moment Tekisetsu launches a powerful roundhouse that seeks to take the champ’s head off and for a second he believes that he does. Dominic’s head vanishes from sight for a brief moment, long enough for the rookie to think he really decapitated him.
Theme of Dominic
The audience and announcers are in shock, how did he miss this kick? To their eyes he whiffed the kick big time but he knew what he saw, somehow Dominic moved his head fast enough to completely vanish right before his eyes. Stunned by this strange dodge, he didn’t think about how he was still off balance from his kick because he left his right side wide open and was blasted by a left hook from the champ. It rocks his brain and rattles him badly as he stumbles all over the ring and before his opponent could follow up the bell sounds for the end of round one. Dominic didn’t close in after hitting him, maybe he knew the bell was about to ring or maybe he wanted to beat on the rookie a little more either way the young man was spared just a bit longer.
He was fighting with everything he knew and everything he had combined with his Reiryoku all while Dominic was fighting with pure skill and technique. He couldn’t comprehend how his opponent was still standing, was he just that weak? Did his Reiryoiku do nothing but put him on par with top level fighters and nothing more? In Dominic’s corner his coaches were telling him not to take any more heavy hits like that, he runs the risk of being hospitalized or worse. In one ear and out the other, he was having the time of his life out there no one could tell him what to do. Besides, he already knew that he can’t risk any more strikes from his opponent, not as a human anyway. He figured it was time to carry through on his promise and show the rookie exactly what world of power he shouldn’t be fucking with.
The second round was about to start, the fighters stood up and made their way towards the center of the ring. Tekisetsu was producing Reiatsu, he did have Reiryoku after all, however it was very subtle and it was fading as the first round went on. Having had some time to recover it built itself back up a bit and began trickling down once more.
”Brace yourself.”
Dominic declares to his opponent as his own Reiatsu crashes down around them. The rookie was petrified he had never felt this sort of pressure before nor did he know it could reach these levels. Honestly the amount of Reiatsu Dominic was exerting was just enough for other spiritual beings to pick up on, if a Shinigami were to feel this it would be like a light breeze hitting them but for Tekisetsu it was like a mountain resting on his shoulders. He puts up his guard as Dominic closes the gap between them and he starts to panic because Dominic has no stance, he’s just casually strolling towards him.
“Will he attack from the left or right? Is he aiming for my head or-”
The rookie’s thoughts are cut short by a lightning fast straight kick to his stomach, it winds him, cripples him and he collapses to his knees crumbling like a brittle cookie. Dominic backs off as the ref rushes in to check Tekisetsu, he taps his shoulder once and the young man springs back onto his feet to the shock of everyone except Dominic. Reiryoku can be used to reinforce the body to a certain degree and this was one such instance as Tekisetsu strengthened his core muscles shortly after impact. However, his efforts were too slow as he ultimately did succumb to the damage for a brief moment. He was back on his feet and fully aware of his surroundings which amazed the ref of the match, he’d never seen anyone take a hit like that, fall like that nor stand up so fast and be alert. Everything checked out and so the fight continued with Tekisetsu going on the offensive moving in for another double leg takedown, a move that rewarded him with a broken nose earlier in the match. This time things would be different as he braced and prepared himself for a counter. He connects, much to his surprise he grasps a hold of both Dominic’s legs and then…
THOOM!
Tekisetsu’s eyes go white, his body goes limp, and he collapses at the feet of the Champion. Dominic landed a heavy and solid punch to his back, knocking the air out of him once again and rendering him unconscious, once again. By MMA rules separation of consciousness isn’t as necessary for KOs as much as it is a fighter being unable to physically defend himself or herself. Meaning as long as Dominic didn’t “go in for the kill” Tekisetsu wasn’t out of the match just yet. Dominic backs away from him and in a matter of seconds the rookie was back on his feet, though he got to them much slower than the first time. The champ was showing him what it was like to fight with Reiryoku, how one-sided it truly is to be pummeled by someone with an unfair advantage. He was teaching him a lesson more so than just beating him up and after that second knockdown Tekisetsu started to understand. He bottled up his Reiryoku, to the best of his ability, enough for Dominic to get the hint and so he did the same except his vanished entirely.
Dominic took a stance and his challenger, Tekisetsu, did as well. The rookie was winded and beaten but he nodded to Dominic a silent show of respect and understanding for what he was taught. The champ just smiles at him and the two move towards the center of the ring once more…
Present Day
The last ten years of Dominic’s life have been interesting and quite eventful. He never expected that his final fight would be against a spiritually aware human, perhaps this human could one day be of use for the Quincy. That's right, being officially retired from MMA he has all his focus on what he truly is and what he could do to benefit his race. As Blume Diamante’s bodyguard he must ensure her safety and her safety means the safety of the Quincy Empire. Though this means being dragged around to events he’d rather not be at such as fashion shows. Having gained fame through his MMA exploits he is easy enough to recognize, especially here in Japan due to his complexion.
”I hate wearing these damn suits… Why can’t we just go in street clothes?”
He complains about wearing the suit as he has always done, even after ten years he never stopped whining about them. Well to be fair he has a point, the restrictive nature of wearing a suit will hinder his movement, provided that he doesn’t want to tear or destroy the tailor made garb. After making a fuss he does make his way out to the courtyard where he meets with Blume. As she starts handing him items he sighs about it, rolling his eyes even.
”All that money you got and you can’t ask them to put pockets on your dresses? Whatever, lets get this show on the road.”
